  • Overview

The Twelve South BookBook for iPhone 5 is a handsome hybrid case that provides one place for your iPhone and the contents of your wallet. This pocket-size book also protects your iPhone in two ways: the hard-back book cover shields against bumps and bruises, while the visual design disguises your wallet and phone.

    Protection and access

Slip your driving licence, bank cards and a little cash into the right side of BookBook, then snap your iPhone 5 into the leather wrapped frame on the opposite side and you're ready to go.

    Superb convenience

A built-in ID window lets you show your drivers license without taking it out, plus an easy thumb-slide for those occasions when you do have to remove your ID. Vertical slots and one horizontal pocket hold debit/credit cards, cash and receipts.

I was so excited to find the BookBook case for my iPhone 5 and solve the solution of needing a new wallet and a phone case in a cool design. Unfortunately when it arrived my heart sank.

    The Negatives:
    • I put my iPhone 5 in and enough cards to fill the slots (ONLY 4!) and it wouldn't close flat!?

    • Getting any paper cash into the space behind the cards was not happening, plus putting anymore in his wallet would end up damaging the iPhone screen as it was squashed into my pocket.

•When you make a call you either have to fold it back so everyone around you can see all your cards/cash and id, making your money an easy target or have it flap in front of your face (I'm right handed), which is hard to walk with and even harder to hold.

    The Positives:
•As a cool design and something nice to look at, it's great.
•It's well made and of good quality material

As a practical phone case/wallet it is very disappointing.. I ended up having a pocket full of notes and a couple of loose cards I thought I might have been able to slip into the inside pocket.

I'm gutted, the only sensible thing I could do was return it :( I would love to see them develop the product and am not put off buying from them in the future. But will be looking else where for now to solve my solution.

If your not worried about carrying money and maybe only two cards with you maybe give it a go, but you'll still have the task of how to keep that safe when making a call.

I am a huge fan of books so the vintage leather-bound book look is very cool and something that fits my personality. It's great for out and about too since this allows me to carry my essentials around and not have to haul around a purse full of stuff.
The only thing I would recommend would be a screen protector as well so the plastic housing for your license doesn't rub on the glass screen and scratch it or damage it in any way, the only awkward thing with this case is answering a phone call without the ear buds; it looks a little ridiculous holding an open book thing up to your ear and is awkward to hold. Perhaps this will fix itself when the case relaxes more since I've only had it for a week or so.
The main thing is it protects my phone, holds my ID and important cards and it looks like a cool antique book; I would definitely recommend!

Using a Jawbone Era (2014 Model) 90% of the time, I cannot comment on call quality of using the iPhone itself whilst in BookBook.

If you are a minimalist like myself, this is brilliant. I only have 5 cards with me, and do not carry cash

I really like the contrast between my iPhone 5's sleek, modern design and the worn, vintage leather of the BookBook.

Easy access to all 4 buttons, ringer switch and charging port, and ability to change volume whilst BookBook is closed. Another great feature, Find My iPhone becomes Find My BookBook, so losing your wallet will not be a problem if you are clumsy like me!

The price puts me off at £50, however I purchased this in Canada, which is equivalent to about £35, so one happy customer here!

I've had this case for 7 months. I love it for the first three months… Then it started to fall apart, big time. The stitching on the bottom right corner is gone, and now peels back so much that I could stick a nickel in between the two layers of cardboard/paper on top of the plastic backing that is sewn into the leather. In fact the whole right side is coming apart. The portion of the case nearest to the camera has completely separated. I was okay with the case looking “worn” as the manufacture states, but this case is beyond "worn" as it is falling apart and looks like a hobo wallet. Having phone and a wallet in one is great. Just don’t buy this if you want something to last at least a year. The leather is very cheap. This case should be $20 for the low quality of material and craftsmanship. This is a terrible product for the price.

  • Very poor case from an excellent company

After the first few months, the case started to deteriorate. The leather covering on the plastic case started to peel, and the leather around the camera hole has completely pulled away from the plastic frame.

To make it worse, the case has started to damage my iPhone's screen - the case rubs against it when I'm walking and there's now polish marks where the case makes contact with the glass.

This case has got absolutely nothing on the outstanding quality of the BookBook for iPhone 4/4s - which I owned since release, and passed it on to my mother along with my old iPhone 4. All of my other TwelveSouth products are excellent too, this is the only one I'd never rate 5 stars.

I'm extremely disappointed, and I'll never recommend this case if you're planning on putting it on your pocket. I hope that TwelveSouth rectify the apparent quality issues in any future iterations.
