  • Perfect iPad companion!

The times w I usually carry my iPad 2 and MacBook Air for work throughout the day but in most cases, all I really need is my iPad. The times when I really need to do some serious typing is when I find myself using my Air instead, rather than the virtual keyboard on my iPad. Since I had an Apple BT keyboard already, I had hoped for a good way tp carry it in my bag without damaging the keys and found the Origami Workstation. All I can say is WOW! It holds my iPad at a perfect angle in either portrait or landscape and the bigger surprise is how sturdy it is. Now, I am just carrying my iPad and keyboard most days and even though the Air is tiny and light, eliminating a few unnecessary pounds from my bag is a welcome plus. I can bang out Pages documents all day working this way and it's totally because of the Origami. Probably the best iPad accessory I have ever bought.

This case provides the perfect angle and is very sturdy so I can use this in bed or on the couch (does not need to be on a solid surface). I can also keep the protective back and magnetic cover on my iPad when using the keyboard case. Plus, it also provides great protection for the keyboard when transporting.

  • Wonderful Product, but One Note about the iPad Air

I have tried many keyboard solutions only to return them all. After purchasing this product, I have finally been able to turn my iPad into my primary computing device. I use it with an iPad Air and it works wonderfully. I have on small complaint however. This product has not been updated for specifically for the Air creating one minor problem: there are not screen bezels to lift it. In other words, when using pages, I often have to lift the iPad out of the workstation to successfully touch functions such as alignment, text size, and bold/italics/underline.

Overall, though, greatest keyboard solution out there and the best I have been able to find!

  • Please note... not ideal for the iPad Air

    1.0 out of 5 stars

Contrary to what some of these reviews say, and what Apple Store employees will tell you, this device is not ideal for the iPad Ai Contrary to what some of these reviews say, and what Apple Store employees will tell you, this device is not ideal for the iPad Air. To the manufacturer's credit, they do not list it as being iPad Air compatible either. There are two main problems you should be aware of; both are caused by the smaller bezel size of the iPad Air relative to earlier iPad models.

Firstly, if you view the iPad Air in the horizontal position you will often need to remove the iPad from the workstation to access the "swipe up" menu (airdrop, bluetooth, volume, brightness, etc). It is also often difficult to reach the icons at the bottom of the page. While horizontal, if you want to watch a video, you will have the keyboard protruding over the screen edge (removing the keyboard from the workstation still leaves the keyboard supports from the workstation covering part of your screen). Secondly, in the portrait position you cannot reach the home button without lifting the device.

In other words, this is a great device available at a terrific price, but be prepared for an annoying time if you want to use this workstation with your iPad Air. We tried several "quick fixes" including additional padding under the iPad Air, none of which worked particularly well. For some people, the low price of this device makes all these inconveniences well worth the trouble but, for this consumer, the point of a workstation is that the iPad is stationary and doesn't need to be moved all the time. Caveat emptor.

Provides a really useful grownup keyboard when needed and goes completely away when not. I love to snicker at colleagues in meetings trying to type on chicklets and enduring bulky cases that rob these tablets of all their appeal.

The tablets drop right into the little nook provided with no fuss and sit solidly in place until they are lifted out. The keyboard doesn't come out unless necessary and when it goes away it's neatly stowed in the elegant wrapper.
