    Poor quality for the price

    • Written by from Redditch

I got this cable included with my iPhone 5 in March, so 3-4 months ago now?

It's already barely working, the cable is all crimped near the lightning connector end, it stops charging randomly when it's left alone and doesn't charge at all if you move the device around - and they want £15 for a replacement?

I treat my tech well, especially expensive tech like this - I expect better Apple.

Alright this is my 4th charger. I just got 2 days ago. All of the sudden it stopped working just like the rest of the other 5 chargers i have boughten for my ipod. THIS IS STUPID! Apple makes the charger look cool and futuristic or watever but the quality of the charger is poor. VERY POOR.
    Dear Apple,
If you see all these negative comments. Why dont you do something about it. Make a new charger that is actually durable. Use new materials.. Do something !!!!

    Still working

    • Written by from Chester-Le-Street

I got mine with my ipod touch 5th gen in October and it still works; as well as the ones that we use at work with the roofers who don't exactly take good care of the cables as they are kept in the van, get thrown onto the desks and are left on the ground then forgetting about them until they get rolled over on the chairs. All work with no trouble.

I have had my IPAD (Gen4) for 5 months and I've gone through TWO CORDS! Apple needs to make improvements to the Lightening/Thunder ASAP! This is ridiculous! My second cord only lasted a week! SMH...

It's way too short, plus I've only had it for almost six months and it's broken. I keep it safe and take good care of it and then in one day it just *BAM* dies on me. So now I've bought a $2 one from china instead. That will probably last just as long. And it's three times longer in length. Get it together, Apple.

I've only had the iPad mini for 3 weeks and the charger already stopped working!!!!! Not to mention my iPhone 5 chargers, I've already went through atleast 2 chargers within 3 months !!!!! This is so inconvenient and getting pricey. These chargers stop working right away. I'm even afraid to touch or move the cord thinking I might mess it up or something. THIS CHARGER IS THE WORST!

Apple should be be ashamed of the product quality. Cable breaks at a stress point at the transition to the lightning connector. Two cables broken in 4 months. If this were an auto company there would be a forced product recall. Come on Apple. Get rid of some marketers and hire a few competent engineers. You should make good on this and provide refunds to all purchasers.

The cable worked fine for the first few months I've had it, but I only have one, and I've been shoving it in bags and backpacks and suitcases, and it hasn't held together. The wires inside seem to be broken because when I plug it in, my iPod remains dead and it doesn't charge. I was hoping for something a bit sturdier but now it looks like I'll be without music until I can get a replacement.

    Quality?

    • Written by from Houston

As others have said, the lightning cable is really great and very convenient. However, it seems that the charger didn't last as long as expected.. In less than half a year, my cable doesn't work anymore, for the wires are broken. I'd rather give this one a 3.5, but oh well. Nothing we can do about it, but buy another one. Props to Apple for the new design, though.

FRAGILE! Dont pull on the wire when removing from the phone

    • Written by from Horsham

My cable stopped charging, as many seem to,... the reason i discovered is the wires at the phone connector end come loose inside the plastic lightning connector (in fact the wire came out completely from the connector).

Basically when you tug the cable out of the phone you MUST grip the plastic lighting connector not the wire, otherwise over time by pulling on the wire the wiring inside the lightning connection will fail. ....

I've had my iPod 5 generation since February and I've already been through 2 chargers. The second one I've only had for 3 weeks. This is ridiculous. If my next charger doesn't last longer than a month you can forget about me ever buying an apple product again!

    Disgusted!

Can't believe that apple have allowed this cable to be given to us... Let alone sold again! Apple have really let me down and this is now my third replacement for the iPad mini in 4 months. What a joke.

    Too short.
    Too expensive.
    Too weak!

I am in disbelief that Apple cannot design a more durable cable. If you're going to charge so much, make it strong and long. For the durability provided I feel cheated.

Could be Hazardous for High Users

New tablet, just under 6 months with USB lightning cable, and my son and I were electrocuted. Nothing major, but the insulation just below the reinforced 8 pin had worn a pin hole. He came to me and said, "It won't charge and it stung me a little bit". I am an idiot and got a slight shock too. The cable is worth 20 bucks, so I wanted to see what was going on inside the cord. The inside of the insulation looked browned right near the pinhole that we got shocked from. A red wire was coming lose closer to the 8 pin adapter. My daughters tablet is looking similar. Its scrunching just before the reinforced part prior to the 8 pin. I'm not a trained fire marshal, but I'm tossing her 6 month old cord also. Both kids paid a large portion of the purchase price, and they have treated the tablets very well. They can only use them in the family room, so we have seen 99% of the usage of this product.
The cable has to be in the device when the battery is low. This creates a problem due to the light weight soft outer sleeve part of the cable. I think its when they are lying on a sofa and charging. The cable needs to be reinforced further out from the pin, or an entire heavy duty cable needs to be made.
I gave it 2 stars, because we are heavy users. These problems may not occur in light usage that does not deplete the battery. We are however, very disappointed with the quality and possible safety of the chord for heavy usage. I will not buy a cheap knock off, and want other heavy users, to be aware of a possible hazard.

    Way too short!

This may be fine for just charging or syncing, but not long enough to use in bed. I like to read myself to sleep, but many hotel rooms do not have an outlet this close. Am being forced to buy an after-market 6' foot, but would prefer to buy apple -- if they just offered a 6' option!
