I bought a cheap cover on eBay and thought I had saved loads of money. It broke in about 4 days. Bought the Apple one with some Birthday Apple Store vouchers and happiness ensued. Yes Apple products are ALL EXPENSIVE buy they are pretty well always well designed and the best option.

Bought it sight unseen. I mean come on, its Apple and I expected it to be pretty darn nice. In all fairness, the iPad fits really well in it and I like that part, but the corners are sharp, the hinge doesn't look like it will last, the cover kinda covers down, but doesn't stay very well and it feels like a cheap piece of cardboard. Will return and get a plastic back from someone else and an Apple smart cover with the good hinge instead. Very disappointing to buy an Apple branded product like this. Never before have I been this let down by them. If it were $15 or $20 from a third party I could go with it, but not $50 from Apple themselves.

    Not the Expected Apple Quality

I bought a light gray smart case for my new ipad and was very pleased with the protection it offered. I noticed that the entire cover was getting dirty very fast and started to leave markings on the screen. This case has been used slightly heavily and just started falling apart after about 5-6 months of use. Not the quality I expected considering the price. I had to order a new one because this indeed protects the ipad, as mine looks like new. This time I'm going to go with a dark gray one. I just wish they would do something about the quality of the case.

Just picked up a new iPad and grabbed this case. Wanted something to protect it initially and it's not too bad. The fit is nice and tight and the material seems pretty sturdy. Not sure it's 49 bucks worth but I have 2 weeks as a return window. I do plan on upgrading to the iPad 5 (couldn't hold out though...been on the original until today) and this along with a Speck screen protector should keep it in good shape in prep for a resell.

    Bottomline...meh ;-)

I find this cover to be awesome! Recently purchased an iPad 3 and received the case a couple of days later... What a huge difference in how to hold & protect my device!
I've only had it a few days, but love it.
I am really struggling to figure out all of the negative reviews. I wonder if those folks have properly seated their iPad into the cover? This is my first iPad, so I'm not sure if the diameter is different on the other generations?
All of the outer buttons line up perfectly with the holes in the cover... As they should!
Some reviews said that the "cover" is kind of hard to open if you don't have fingernails to lift the edge. That one I can somewhat understand, but I have done some "testing" & have found that if you slide the pad of your finger underneath the corner it actually lifts quite easily. I really think it is a matter of finessing it if you don't have fingernails.
I would recommend this cover for the iPad 3, because that's what I have. Again, not sure what the dimensions are for older/newer versions. Find it hard to believe that there are so many issues with this case from the negative reviewers:)

    Trash product disappoints

How is this even an apple product, I buy this expecting quality stuff but this was the most disappointing product I have ever bought and I've bought shamwow twice.

The stand doesn't even work as it comstantly falls while in use and the magnets are incredibly weak and will wear out in a week of use. Anything, and I mean anything, will stain the case and remain in the iPad case forever. The corners of the case are already peeling as the PVA glue you used wasn't good enough to hold 2 thin pieces of polyutherane together.

This was a bad buy and I wouldn't even recommend this product to anyone. Like it can't even be used as a paper weight.

For $50 I thought this "smart" case would be a good idea. The case doesn't do anything smart. There is a small magnet that turns the screen off when you close it. That's all this does, it's very flimsy and all the folds permanently crease. It get dirty from anything and the "fabric" aspect of it makes it hard to clean. I take ridiculously good care of my things and this case is ripping on the inside corner where it's creased (it shouldn't even be able to crease there) I would say stay away from this item and spend you $50 on something that will function well and protect your iPad. I have only had it for 2-3 months and if I could rate zero stars I would .

Bought the case in Sept 2012 to protect the ipad2 from my 3 children. First of all does good in a fall, the ipad corners were protected. Bad news that in Feb2013 it started to become unglued. By April of this year three sides have completely come undone. The device could not sit in the case, just slipping and sliding about. The thing that upsets me the most is for the price tag, i expected something a little more durable. Now maybe i got a bad batch, or maybe that what happens to it after time. I will be looking for a more durable case.

The magnetic connection comes off too easily. Because of this...my iPad slipped from the cover and shattered on impact. Definitely not worth the money. Replacing it with something more secure once I get my iPad repaired!!

Amazing! The perfect ~50 gift for ANY iPad owner

upon the release of the iPad 2 and its fixes of the iPad 1's kinks, I thought it would make the perfect computer for my mother, and it just so happened to be coming out on her birthday, so I bought her one and a few accessories to go along with it, among them, the smart cover, something I felt was essential. But she was looking for a bid more protection and bought an ugly traveling-size sleeve for it because with the smart cover you cannot have a regular case as well. The Smart Case solved this problem and knocks the cheap knockoffs out of the water. DO NOT buy one of those iLuv or whatever magnetic cases for ~$20, get the real deal, you'll thank me later. ;)

    The idea is solid...

I got this case in January with my iPad and I must admit I was pleased at first, but as I used it the problems became more and more apparent.
First off I noticed that the cover did not hug the screen very well, it would shift in my backpack, turn the screen on and the iPad would be dead before morning classes.
Secondly, the cut outs are all slightly off. I had to use a knife from my garage to widen the charger slot so that it would fit apple's standard lightning cable. Also the hole for the slide at the side is off, and you have to really dig a nail in to get the switch to the "off" position.
Third thing, the way the cover folds should be improved. The keyboard mode is a bit shallow for my liking, however i did manage to take notes on it everyday, but the "movie mode" is terrible. On the Smart Cover it held the iPad at a slight angle to allow stability, but with the this case, it's pretty much straight up, and falls over constantly.
Finally, the build quality is terrible already the hinge is starting to tear at the edges, as well as all the folds on the cover, and the main body of the case is starting to split at the edges.

In short, tis is a solid idea for a case, but it needs some serious refinements before it should wear the apple logo.

    Hinge is terrible

The hinge on the left side of the iPad 4 where the cover connects with the case does not stay firmly seated thus exposing the aluminum edge of the iPad and constantly requires readjustment when cover is flipped back behind iPad. I miss the original iPad 1 case which in my opinion was a superior design albeit its propensity to show dirt.

I love all apple products and I love my pink smart case for my iPad 2 however, when I try to insert the camera connection kit that holds the USB, it does not fit. The case somehow does not let the connector through and I have to take the case off all together. The case also gets quite dirty and brown in some areas quite quickly. Overall love this product to pieces and keeps my iPad safe from any scratches and marks!

    It hurts my hands

I should have watched the cnet review. It shows how flimsy it is when you try to get it to prop up your ipad. The review did say that it is suppose to be used more as a portfolio. That doesn't work for me because the edges have a ledge that really cuts into your hand after awhile. I ordered something different today so that means this purchase was a waste of my money.

    Excellent cover but poor stand

    • Written by from Ewloe

Does exactly what it says but is very 'wobbly' when using the stand; I take it a lot on planes and don't trust the stand not to fall over with the slightest bit of turbulence which could lead to the screen smashing. Shame really as it is a very good cover with a funky colour (I chose the red one; looks really good).

Protects but a joke as to standing up.

This cover, which I ordered 4 for myself and family protects the Ipad and all its corners well. However, standing the Ipad is another story. The back part should have two sections; at the most three. To divide in four sections, the Ipad is too top heavy and keeps falling back. If you let it continue to fall back you will end up breaking glass.

You could improve by sectioning in two the stand and also, include a place where stylus can be carried.
