Picked one of these up to protect my data in my old MAC. I was surprised at how heavy the time capsule was, this is a good sign of quality in my opinion. Packaging was simple, but elegant as usual. Set up was as easy as could be. Plug it in, click on the wifi icon next to the clock and there it is. Took me longer to climb under the desk to plug it in than it did to configure. First back up ran over night, and there it was this morning. All my devices connected to the new wifi network without a hitch.

    Best Router Ever!

I just got turn on to Apple products again after leaving to the Android camp from my iPhone. I started off with a 13" MacBook Air. I decided to get this after having to reformat and reinstall/upgrade my fiancee MacBook. Shipping was a little on the slow side but for something this good you should wait. When I got it all that was in the box was the Time Capsule and the power cord. By far the simplest setup I have ever done. Very user friendly. I have tried to us a Netgear router as an access point/repeater but I couldn't get it work because the Netgear is just too complicated. Also, I have been able to add my entire iTunes library to it and am able to access it seamlessly. Everything has been such a great experience that I decided to get another Apple product, the AirPort Express.

Best Router + Storage I've had!

It is fast, reliable and offers all configuration options I want for my home network.

Recently we contracted Verizon, and with the proper steps on Verizon's router, you can just skip it and let the Time Capsule do all the routing. My internet speed improved about 30% to load web pages!

Then, it also has the storage.A NAS I recently bought is horrible compared to what a Time Capsule does. The NAS is costed the same, comes with the same capacity, is noisier, the interface is a nightmare and it doesn't let me access the discs as simple USB discs if I want to. Not to mention the bugs in network DNS and names, showing up double in my network because it is "Time Machine ready".

One more thing... people should learn that any device with a mechanical hard drive is subject to fail. I also have a 1st Generation 500Gb TC that never let me down, even after 4 years.

Another simple, don't need a brain to use it Apple miracle!!. Have had mine since the first generation and not a single issue. Actually still running the 500GB... I don't understand some of the negative reviews, always runs backup quickly and effortlessly. Great wireless range in the house and wonderful to eliminate a wireless router and back up device. Have an HP laser printer networked in and print wirelessly from all computers and iPhones in the house....never had an issue. Going strong for over 3 years, will only replace when I upgrade to a larger iMac in the future. AMAZING job Apple :)

I was hesitant at first to buy the Apple Time Capsule, but I am so glad I did. Time Capsule continuously backs up 3 of my Macs and allows me to store all my data within. Not only is it small and compact, but it is light and fits just about anywhere! It was saved me not only once, but around 4 time when either my hard drive has crashed or when I have switched computers. Great investment and has been an amazing product.

If you have a Mac u also need this

I have been using the time capsule for 3 1/2 years and have had 0 problems. Reliability and connection speed are better than any of the other brand routers. We usually have between 8 and 11 devices connected at any given time and it is still just as fast as if you only had 1 or 2 devices on it.
The reason you need this with a Mac is because of the hard drive in it works seamlessly with time machine. Never worry about losing a single item on your Mac. I had my MacBook stolen and when I got a new Mac I just chose to restore from a time machine back up and poof all files and programs were back, just as if it was never stolen.

A relit alive of mine just had her laptop crash and she had never backed up her iTunes library and now lost thousands of songs that had been imported from cd's ect. Time capsule makes sure that never happens.

I have used Linksys products for years with decent success, but needing advanced setings and configurations. With all of the peripherals we use (3 ipods, 1 ipad, 1 iphone, 2 wireless N adapters, 2 Xbox 360's, 3 Laptops, 3 wireless Blu Ray PLayers) it has always been a challenge to port map with Linksys routers. With Time Capsule, it was easy, and most port mapping was done automatically, which was very impressive. In addition, the strength of the signal has been seriously better, allowing HD Video to play on peripherals, connections never go out. Just amazing. And using the 2TB internal drive to perform back-ups has been simple on both MAC and Windows based systems. Apple does it again, with a seriously superior product. Thank you Apple!

What a fantastic product, Time Capsule

This is a dream product, I have all Apple products, an iMac, a MacBook Pro, iPod 4th generation,iPad2 and Apple TV also a HP 6150 all in one air print capable printer, I have Comcast as my ISP who had provided me with a wireless Gateway that wreaked havoc on my Apple toys, got rid of the Gateway and had them give me an eTMA modem and go away, I installed my Time Capsule myself in well under 10 min, everything connected like a charm and in another 5 min I was air printing and scanning wirelessly to all the IOS devices, the MacBook Pro and the iMac. Time Capsule is very user friendly as are all of Apple products. I cannot say enough good things about the Time Capsule, I am a 70+ yr. old senior grandma and have never even seen a router up close much less installed one, if I can do it believe me anyone can. Thanks loads Apple folks.

Absolutely the Highest Grade Router for Consumer Users

This is my second (really 3rd) Time Capsule. My first is the 2nd generation 1TB model and this new one is the 4th generation 2TB model. The (New) 2TB model is connected directly to my cable modem and the (Old) 1TB model is connected with ethernet cable in another part of my house. I've got the 2nd gen. TC's set up as Roaming off Bridge) and now I have WiFi (strong) everywhere in my house.

BTW, I've had the 2nd generation TC for a little over 2 years now without any problems what so ever. I suspect the (New) 4th generation will be a long lifer as well.

Like I said in my title Apple Time Capsule's are the highest grade rougher for consumer users, and as good as some commercial grade routers. The disk drives Im not so sure about other than, it hasn't failed me once.

I did have the 1st generation 500GB model, and it didn't last 6 months. So Apple replaced it with the (newer at the time) 2nd generation 1TB model (currently still have) for FREE. That's great customer service......hopefully the 4th generation model will be another great Apple product like my 2nd generation is.

I could not be happier - simple set up.

I bought this because I wanted to cancel my internet based back up service due to the cost of backing up multiple computers in my house. My old Linksys router was also starting to fade after many years but I greaded setting up a new router - the old linksys set up involved several hours on the phone with India.

In my house I have 2 IMac's, 3 MacBooks, Ipad, Apple TV and multiple ipods/iphones not to mention a windows laptop. The set-up could not have been easier - everything connected as expected and all backed up with no issues. It was simple! The cost is cheap when you compare it to the cost of a new router plus off site back service. I keep it in a closet out of site where it is very safe. Range is also better than my old Linksys.

great product until it dies 13-24 months later

Loved this product until it un-expectantly died. I was shocked when mine randomly quit working and I was furious when I found a forum (on apple's website under discussions.apple titled "Time Capsule Dead??") showing 74 PAGES with approximately 15 posts per page of people with the exact same problem. Phone support from Apple provided no help. How could Apple have such a defective product and do nothing about it???

An Expensive Tool Worth Every Dollar

The Time Capsule 2TB is the perfect solution for wireless backup and network routing. I purchased mine for both those reasons and also because, like most everything Apple, it is guaranteed to work out of the box, doesn't require a Doctorate in Popular Electronics to operate, and is a perfect match for any existing Apple Products. I hooked up a 2Wire Gateway to the Time Capsule and disabled the 2Wire's WiFi output to make the Time Capsule's Dual Band WiFi the only wireless access point in the house and man what a difference. The 2Wire was fast but this thing was even faster!!! My MacBook Pro, Apple TV, and iPhone 4 download and upload data so fast that if you blink you'll miss it. And since Time Machine works seamlessly with it all of your data is only a click away should you lose it. The only drawback is price. Let's face it $300.00 can go a long way in today's world and buying a box for that amount may seem stupid. However, the Time Capsule is solid, dependable, and built to perform for a very long time. I strongly recommend this to anyone needing a wireless drive / router

    Solid piece of kit

My Time Capsule has been running without any issues for 3 months now.

This is in stark contrast to the box my internet provider gave for free. That would just fold over at the earliest opportunity.

The range is fantastic - better than other 'n' routers I have used by some distance.

And the 2tb drive is a fantastic. Much better than plugging a drive in via USB. For example, I can comfortably stream 720p video to my macbook. Indeed, I can stream video to my macbook which will then convert video to stream to my ipad. That's a lot of streaming!

This is an excellent piece of equipment.

You buy it, Install it which is a dream as it just works.

Then the wireless is even better than my old wireless router.

So then I don't touch it or disturb it. When I need time machine to open and retrieve data it works perfectly.

This is the best bit of kit and should be a standard item with all macs.

    Thank you apple.

I have one and it's brilliant.
    Peace of mind - absolutely!
Dual band width so that I can use my iPad, iPhone all round the house as well as using the iMac (previously without dual band wifi access to the internet slowed right down).

I am planning on buying another iMac for my office and I am defo buying another TimeCapsule to go with it.

Its just an amazing bit of kit!

    No regrets

After reading many reviews on this product, I was indecisive on whether to purchase this product or not. Seeing as many people were either 5 stars or 1 star saying it stopped working after a year or two. Seeing as I was already looking at getting a backup hard drive, and then last night my D-Link router decided to finally call it a day, my mind was made up to get the time capsule. 2 in one...

Well from the moment I took it out of the box, it is very clear it's simplistic and elegant in design. One power cable, one capsule. Took me all of 2 minutes to get back online. Turned the MBP on and set up a new network and started backing up all my data (while I'm writing this)

I also love the idea of making a separate network for guests. I hate having to give out my password to family just so they can use it when they come over.

    So far so good!!

This has literally saved my life. My hard drive died 2 days ago without warning. Without this Time Capsule i would have lost everything - 50,000 emails, work and social files that i've migrated from previous MacBook Pro's over the last 6 years.

I had a new hard drive put into my machine, plugged in the Time Capsule and the MacBook restarted exactly as i'd left it last time. Same emails open, same icons on the desktop. I don't know what i'd have done without it.

Admittedly, this is my 2nd Time Capsule as my first one died after about 18 months but hopefully they have improved reliability now as my last one has lasted 2 years so far.

This was the best £250 I have ever spent.

It is not that any other opinions are not true or points for wanting, it is just Apple has delivered me an ipod touch and this time capsule for amounts of money that may be steep to some but considering the performance and technology involved it is amazing. We are spoiled consumers. This device does everything a home user could need and it does it well. Think about how much money businesses can spend on I.T. I am lucky to have what in my mind is a $6,000 home mini-mac, macbook, ipad, ipod touch with time machine backup with integrated wifi for so much less dollars (I won the ipad). Think about how much is 2TB. The days of an 100MB zip drive or multi-CD backups are not that long ago. I highly recommend this device for Apple users. While it works on PC/Windows, I can not comment.
