    Good concept - Poor delivery

Bought two, lost two - won't get bitten again. Without doubt the worst Apple product I have ever owned. Great concept, poor delivery a real C minus product.
You must be able to get a more reliable solution to backing up that won't let you (and your precious memories) down!

I bought one of these but it died after 18 months. It was an expensive purchase and it did offer a fairly seamless operation with my other apple products. Value for money has to be just 1 star. There are cheaper alternatives these days. The other limitation I found is that this does not grow with your needs and once you have out grown the internal storage, then you need to purchase an external drive, which then makes your time capsule obsolete. Given that storage capacities grow so quickly, it makes the time capsule a short term backup solution.

    Failsafe backup

My first Time Capsule (500gb, now 3 years old) has given perfect service and I have now increased my Mac's HD size and so need a larger Time Capsule. I've just bought and installed a 2TB Time Capsule. I found it as simple to set up as the first one, it has a few more options such as easy guest passwords for visitors and it's a perfect and essential piece of kit, especially for owners of portable Macs.

I think that some of the terminology when setting up an internet connection can be tricky for beginners, even when using something as simple as Time Capsule, and the only thing I would like to see improved are the help files (in Airport Utility) for each of the pages you click through when setting up Time Capsule.

I bought this thing with the thought I could use it to get my media to all my Mac devices. Wrong.
It is a Router and backup HD. You can also connect to it with the airport adapter in snow leopard. I got it out of the box and tried to surf to the IP but came up with no page available. Confused, I pulled out the manual, and it said to use your airport utility. I had to wat for this to pop up before I could configure the device, but it does not have a Way to setup file shares. I figured if I had a share on it I would be able to get to it and listen to music on my iOS devices, but you can't.
I also bought it hoping I could backup my iPhone and iPad, but no dice, still need a computer.
Does what it advertises I guess, but there is so much potential for more. I was thinking if I had this and apple TV, I would be able to house all my data on the time capsule, but it seems you would still need a osx device online to proxy the stream through, which defeats the purpose. I have a laptop that I just want to close up at night yet still stream content to my phone and iPad in other parts of the house. This doesn't seem like I am asking too much, the hardware is there, and an iOS sized os could easily provide it.

Used this to replace my Netgear 3700. Much simpler to use, comes with a ton of storage, and the signal is stronger in my home. Exactly what I needed, and saved lots of money by purchasing this rather than getting a router with a 2TB network drive!

I too bought a Time Machine three years ago and it worked perfectly till yesterday when it just died. No power. I will have to get a new one and hope the Apple Store can retrieve the stored info. off the old one. It does get expensive if they have a problem of just dying every three years. Lets hope this problem has been fixed with the newer models

I have had my time capsule now for almost a year. It does what it is supposed to do. Best of all its one less thing for me to worry about, remember to do, and so on since everything is done automatically. Compared to life before my time capsule, it is DEFINITELY worth every penny.

    Time Capsule Saved My Life!

I can't be more happy than I am with the purchase of Time Capsule. I contemplated the purchase when I was getting an iMac, thinking it was a little expensive & more than I had planned on spending, but now almost three years later when the hard drive on that iMac decided to just crash one day - EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING was saved & able to be restored from the Time Capsule! I can't say it was a super simple process for restore (b/c there were updates & new OS issues to get straight before I would call it a clean restore) but none of the issues were a Time Capsule issue - that puppy did as it was suppose to and I didn't lose a thing, not even a night's sleep - b/c EVERYTHING was saved!!! I love you Red Solo... I mean Time Capsule!!! ha ha ha Don't even blink an eye nor consider it a moment longer - BUY THE DANG THING, it'll save your life, one day! They say it's not if your hard drive crashes, it's when - you want to be prepared!!!

I bought this thing yesterday to replace my air port express. Air port express just couldn't handle all the devices in the house any more. I am running two macs, two cell phones, wireless sub woofer, and apple tv off this. I had some net work issues when I first hooked it up, but when I finally got that situated this thing just blows the express away! Amazingly fast to say the least. I just wish I had bought one sooner because I have the performance package for my internet and I realized what I have been missing all this time! I feel like I can run the whole neighborhood with this thing. A little on the expensive side, but worth it if you can buy one.

Out of the box and running wireless on my iMac configured with Time Machine in less than 15 minutes. Hooked up a 7-port USB hub, and connected 4 printers and 3 external hard-drives. Fantastic. Easily runs 4 iPhones, an iMac, Apple TV, 4 notebook computers, a Nook, and a PS3 without a hitch all while backing up the iMac wireless. You can get a nice gaming router for the price you pay for this and this includes a 2TB hard drive. Money well spent. Only wish that Time Capsule would in addition to backing up the iMac would back up the external drives that physically attached to the Time Capsule.

    Temperamental fro me

Every few months I get a message from the time capsule advising "Time Machine completed a verification of your backups on “xxxx”. To improve reliability, Time Machine must create a new backup for you." It destroys all the previous back ups and starts over... again. Why it has 2 TB is beyond me as it never seems to use but 500GB. I'm going back to WD, reliable and without wasting another 7-8 hours every few months to get a simple back up done. I have no idea what I have lost trusting this thing. But the last time it did this was 12/11/2012. By March 2013, it wants to do it again.

This is my second time capsule. First one died after 2 years. However my hard drive suddenly died on my Mac and after replacing the hard drive I was able to restore my Mac from the time capsule in about an hour. A lifetime of photos, music, my business - the lot!
So for me it was worth every penny, and when it dies again - in about another 18 months - I will probably get another as it was soooo easy to restore.

This is amazing... its wifi is fast and I get to back up all my data. The only complaint is it took a while to set up. Not the time capsules fault though, it was the isp.
If you own a computer this is a must buy.

Best Backup System Available for the Layman.

I have had zero issues with my TC. A little research is needed to fully use all of it's capabilities but it along with Apple's Time Machine software is simply wonderful.

TWO ISSUES: While I haven't had any issues yet, it really should have more ventilation. It definitely gets hot and I can see this being an issue. Also, I think it's been around long enough that Apple could have a thunderbolt port available now. This would speed up backups considerably as well as keep the unit from working so hard (thereby keeping the temp at a more appropriate level).

NOTES: While it's a great backup system, I recommend having an external/portable backup system as well. I use time machine on a 2TB external once a month and keep it stored in my firesafe. If someone were to rob you or god forbid your house burns down- the backup system would be pretty useless.

    2.4GHz Band simply doesn't work

    • Written by from Saint Louis

I recently replaced an AP Extreme with a 2TB Time Capsule- dual band. Easy set up and I was online in minutes. The only problem is that the only things that can now connect to it are my newer devices i.e.: iPhone 5, 2 MacBookPros, iPad 2. It's supposed to be running dual band to allow for older devices to connect. I can no longer connect my AP Express or my iPhone 4 to my home network. I can't tell if it's a firmware issue, IOS issue or both. 1000's of people are having the same problem. Seems like it would be a simple fix but I have literally tried everything but returning the unit which is next.

If you have a mix of devices I would stick with a regular AP Extreme and use an external hard drive plugged into it for backups.

Solved all my home network issues in an elegant way

We gradually have converted over to be an Apple household with MacBooks and iPads. We have a left over Windows notebook that I was using as a home server and a wireless printer. I also recently had to replace my cable modem and mistakenly chose a modem with built-in wireless n. Wireless speeds were inconsistent and would drop off. The wireless printer would only function at 2.4ghz not 5ghz and filesharing was slow.
After much research and talking to Apple Support, I purchased a Time Capsule. I'm very pleased with the result:
    1) with time capsule, I can eliminate the windows laptop home server
    2) wireless speeds are very good and so is the range
    3) the dual band wireless allows seamless connection and use of my wireless printer at 2.4ghz even while the mackbooks are on 5ghz
    4) backups are a breeze
    5) file sharing access is much better and more seamless

The set-up of the time capsule was so easy to set up.

    Best Router Ever!

I just got turn on to Apple products again after leaving to the Android camp from my iPhone. I started off with a 13" MacBook Air. I decided to get this after having to reformat and reinstall/upgrade my fiancee MacBook. Shipping was a little on the slow side but for something this good you should wait. When I got it all that was in the box was the Time Capsule and the power cord. By far the simplest setup I have ever done. Very user friendly. I have tried to us a Netgear router as an access point/repeater but I couldn't get it work because the Netgear is just too complicated. Also, I have been able to add my entire iTunes library to it and am able to access it seamlessly. Everything has been such a great experience that I decided to get another Apple product, the AirPort Express.

    Time Capsule Review

This device is brilliant, it was such a dream to set up and has turbo boosted my WiFi network around my house.

Great to know that all my Macs are being backed up by the Time Capsule.

One down side is the cost, i feel its quite expensive, but if i get 10 years out of it, i'll be happy.
