So i bought the TIme caspsule about 9 months ago. when i purchased my first macbook air along with it. it works great teh design is sleeek, and it just works. i have my TC hooked up to my router which is then connected to a desktop PC. i can access the contents of teh TC from that hooked PC and it amkes sharing files between a Mac and PC easier.
    Pros:
    good design
    reliable
    automatic back ups
    dualband wifi is great

    Con:
its a bit tricky setting up the TC on a PC, its not impossible just a few more steps.

This device has decended from heaven to bask among mere mortals. This thing is the best thing to have if you have a lot of data in and out of your computer. I am a musician and I have this setup to do a daily update (Excluding my downloads folder and my desktop), and I could not be happier. This Time Capsule backs up in the background and also serves as a hotspot using a router. A 10/10 in my opinion. BUY IT!

Seven hour or more set up! NOT WORTH IT

wasted $350 on this stupid piece of software. spent 7 hours setting it up on the phone to apple. iMovie deleted one of my projects so I went to see if it had backupped my work. it had not. spent 3 hours on the phone to apple, they could not retrieve the file nor help set up the time capsule correctly. they hung up on me. filed a complaint they could not trace the call as the man had given false information. re setting up time capsule did not work and it changed my Internet connection settings so I can not access the Internet anymore unless I use my 3G

Moral of the story: buy 300 UBS instead. worth a lot more than time capsule..

don't buy it unless you like losing your money and wasting time

    These boxes are "pretty good".

    High notes:
    - Very easy to setup
    - Flawless Wifi usage. Fast too.
    - Built in Hard disk is very convenient.
    - Apple Time Machine backup software works perfectly with it.
    - Super Quiet and very small footprint.

    Low notes:
    - Very slow for network storage, even wired via Ethernet.
    - Sealed unit with no vents. Why? These things get HOT!
    - 1 died, but Apple replaced it without needing the old one back (Free 1TB HD!)

I highly recommend these boxes for Wifi + Backup + Ease + HD Convenience, but if you want a fast external hard disk the G-Technology boxes sold from Apple are better and faster, but of course you pay for that speed.

    Great, but not five stars

Its a great product, but the wireless and the USB connections are very slow. Why on earth would apple make this product USB 2.0 when most people using it are exclusively apple users and would prefer a Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 connection. I get
that not everyone is using apple, but give the applephiles the option, we as demographic of customers are not by default stupid.
To be honest with you, instead of the time machine, you are better off paying a bit more for a LaCie 2big hard drive and run it in RAID or JBOD configuration with a Thunderbolt connection, with the option to expand the memory.
Thats what I have done, you can purchase my Time capsule on eBay if you wish. Having transfer speeds up to 4Gb/s via Thunderbolt is far more attractive.

    ABSOLUTE RUBBISH

This is my THIRD time capsule in four years.

Do NOT throw your money away on this rubbish. Works like an absolute dream for about three or four months then just inexplicably fails. And no matter the issue, it won't get repaired. If you're lucky, Apple may replace it with another one, but you'll have the same trouble in another few months. Complete and utter piece of junk.

I was very skeptical about this product for the past few years. I was really interested but read so many horrible reviews of the hard drive crashing and it being junk. I recently needed a new wifi router so I bought a 900 dual band series from another brand, and it worked just fine I suppose, but i noted that it slowed down to the slowest piece of equipment in my home, notably either the Wii or the iPhones. I still needed a hard drive. I returned the other unit and got this, works great, no issues, backs up automatically. Worth the money, much faster internet on my computer noted as well.

    Look elsewhere

I was excited to try this out and for the first 6 months it worked fine. But, the hard drive failed on me two weeks ago (which Apple replaced) but it just hasn’t been the same since. It keeps loosing memory of the printer installed and I have to go through the re-install process every time. Plus, something that has bothered me from the start, you CAN’T partition the drive! So frustrating when you are trying to use Mac and PC on the same disk.

If I were looking I would look at an AirPort Extreme and add your own external hard drive or I would look at a different manufacture. I have not been impressed with the Time Capsule.

    Worked Flawlessly--For a Month

We have a household full of laptops, many with digital photos that weren't getting backed up in a timely fashion. We really appreciated the smooth way that Time Machine integrated with this unit. The wifi power was also great. After we had it connected for about a month wifi internet started dropping, wifi network remained in place but no internet (internet still worked on the Ethernet connection), and the disk "could not be found." Tried half a dozen resets and other config changes to no avail--the thing is dead now and I've hooked up my old Cisco router. Hope apple will honor the warranty without a lot of hassle.

Unbelievably cool product. 5 minutes to setup network and backups

This is the product I've been looking for! In typical Apple style, it is beautifully built and packaged and offers the simplest of interfaces to setup a brand new wireless network, and fully automated backups for all recent Apple products, AND it allows access to the internal drive like a wireless NAS device, for WIndows computers to backup as well.

    Love it!

wireless connection 8 times slower than the hard wire

    • Written by from Etobicoke

Convenient and easy to setup product. The wireless worked for a day. On the second day the wireless speed of dowload dropped from over 30mbs (at the modem) to less than 4mbs when the timecapsule is connected.
The apple technical support explained to me that it is a matter of adjustment to the settings of the devices and that for extra $240 I can buy a plan and they can take care of my issue. The plan included a number of other services that I don't need.
The "extended" price of the product no longer appeals to me. I plan to return it.

My Time Capsule has been sitting on my desk and waiting for its moment to shine since 2009. Yes, I occasionally "went back in time" to grab a file I erased without thinking, but last week (and this is 2013) my MBP's 500GB hard drive failed. While the laptop was at the Apple shop for diagnostics, I sat around for over a day biting my nails, not knowing if I lost years' worth of documents, pictures, music and schoolwork... But when I came home all I had to do was say "yes" when asked whether I wanted to restore from a TC backup - it saved my professional and personal lives!! It is seemless and simple, and the router is the easiest I've come across to setup and troubleshoot. Get a Time Capsule!

Yes the old tc's did have the dying problem but they have fixed that on the new one it is great. I run mine 24/7 and its been running for 2 1/2 years if you have an old one before it dies what you need to do is buy an apple AirPort Extreme and then buy either a 3TB or a 2TB hard drive connect it to the extreme through the USB and you will have it just like the tc only it will work forever and it will work with time machine and it will be just like a tc and back up wirelessly

The Time Capsule was easy to set up and now all it is pretty much good for is a network. Backup never works (I have tried all of the recommended trouble shooting). I am very disappointed with this product. Won't spend my money on this stuff ever again.

    2.4GHz Band simply doesn't work

I recently replaced an AP Extreme with a 2TB Time Capsule- dual band. Easy set up and I was online in minutes. The only problem is that the only things that can now connect to it are my newer devices i.e.: iPhone 5, 2 MacBookPros, iPad 2. It's supposed to be running dual band to allow for older devices to connect. I can no longer connect my AP Express or my iPhone 4 to my home network. I can't tell if it's a firmware issue, IOS issue or both. 1000's of people are having the same problem. Seems like it would be a simple fix but I have literally tried everything but returning the unit which is next.

If you have a mix of devices I would stick with a regular AP Extreme and use an external hard drive plugged into it for backups.

    TC 500 MB 1st gen

My 1st generation 500GB TC worked flawlessly until the power supply died in just under 3 years (24/7 operation). I always keep one backup of a backup so when it died I wasn't left without my data. Apple replaced it for free due to extended warranty on the product (no apple care in place). 1.5 year later the replacement still works. Good value for money.

Always back up your TC to another external Hard disk!!!!
    (once a month)

Apple also replaced my 80GB hard disk in a MB AIr from 2008 (free). This happened a few days before the TC died. I did upgrade to a new 2012 version recently.

I will probably keep on buying Apple kit as long as Apple looks after their customers. If the repair costs stack up then I will probably go back to cheaper products because cheap can replaced with cheap

My wife and I are new to Apple products. I used to be big on Windows and have a few Windows servers. Biggest down fall of Windows? Reformatting/restoring files. We got two Retina MBPs and got a Time Capsule with it. We both loved how our iPhones/iPads restore quickly and easily with iCloud and figured this would be the closest thing to an iCloud backup for our Macs. My wife's MBP Retina had some strange issue with it sleeping while it was open and in use. We took it to Apple, they gave her a new one and we came home. She started the first use set up, the Mac found the back up and restored her Mac within an hour.

The speed on this thing is unbelievable. I've moved files at higher speeds wirelessly than my wired network has been able to do. I love the feature of being able to go back and grab deleted files. I do some video editing. I accidentally deleted a video I needed and just figured "Well thats gone, I'm screwed". I forgot about the Time Capsule and was able to go back to the date I made the video and transfer it back to my Mac. All in all I'm very pleased and plan to buy a 3TB external to add some NAS style storage so I can keep as much space available for our back ups.

    Time Capsule Experience

    • Written by from ashburn

Before getting the "Time Capsule" i read over many reviews and my conclusion was that about 65% of Time Capsule users were happy with their purchase. My experience was very positive as well. Setting up Time Capsule was not too difficult however, the length of time it took was very long 24-36 hours (300g). That was a bit surprising but once it was completed (January 6th 2013) it was worked like a charm with the exception of increased internet speed (Air Port Extreme is built in). I would definitely suggest Time Capsule.
