    Apple iPad2 Dock

    • Written by from Williamsburg

The Dock is narrow, and it allows the iPad to rock under varying conditions... Ask yourself how long will the iPad's connecting port last under the stress of supporting it's entire weight by its connecting jack? I obtained my iPad 2 & dock less than 6 months ago, the dock no longer charges the iPad. Is it broken? No. The oblique angle simply no longer allows proper connection. I now have to similarly stress the original cable when connected to coax a charging connection. Pass on the dock and just use the supplied power cord.

    Smart Cover doesn't fit.

    • Written by from ERSKINEVILLE

The concept of the stand is great, but when you have the full package including smart cover it doesn't fit with the cover attached.

DOES NOT WORK WITH IPAD SMART COVER

    • Written by from Rockaway Park

the unnecessary lip at the bottom prevents you from using this with the super awesome smart covers... how dumb can they be? I'm supposed to take my cover off every time i put it on the dock to charge?

Should fit with Apple Brand iPad cases

    • Written by from Chaska

The Smart Case interferes and doesn't allow iPad to plug into this Dock connector. Shouldn't have to pull the iPad out of the case just to use this - sort of defeats the purpose of a case, doesn't it Apple?

    Meh

    • Written by from Manassas Park

Can't fit the iPad in the dock with the smart cover on. That's a pretty glaring flaw.
The iPad doesn't connect easily, it's a bit awkward to get it snapped in.
    Doesn't support landscape mode.

    Can't believe these price points!

    • Written by from Bay City

$29 for a weighted piece of plastic that holds up the iPad 2. It works nicely, though you can forget entirely using a cover with the iPad if you are going to prop it up with this. I just cannot believe that the accessories for all things Apple are so incredibly expensive!

I will check back in five business days to see if they "allowed" my review. I will be shocked if they did.

    Dock vs. cover

    • Written by from Williamsburg

I purchased this dock to work with my new iPad and because other reviews indicated it would charge an iPhone4. Here's the straight answer: If you have an Apple cover on your iPad you must either open it or remove it to charge the iPad in the dock. If you have a skin cover on your iPhone4 it simply will not seat on the connector and hence will not charge. There is no way around these issues.

To their great credit, returning the dock to Apple is straight forward. And they even pay for the shipping and credit you for the original shipping costs.

Difficult to use with smart cover

    • Written by from Weston

I hope Apple comes out with a new dock that will allow the ipad2 to be easily charged while connected to the smart cover. Right now you have to move the cover out of the way and then manipulate it so that it closes on the ipad over the front of the charging stand. I expect better design from Apple. They had to expect that people would want to charge their iPad with the cover on. It is also difficult to line up the ipad with the dock but that doesn't bother me as much.

    Works, but poor design

    • Written by from Colleyville

Once you get your iPad onto the dock, it works fine. The base of the dock is weighted so that your iPad does not fall over easily. With a charger connected, it charges your iPad. With an audio cable, you can play music and podcasts to your radio or other powered speaker. Both nice features.

The problem is that getting your iPad to fit onto the dock is problematic. You have to line it up just right to work. Otherwise it slides off the dock all too easily. What this means in practice is that you can't just plop your iPad on the dock in a casual, one-handed manner and expect it to work. You have hold the iPad with two hands, take the time to line it up with the dock adapter, then insert it slowly. Not good if you are the impatient type - like me!

    Too light, too unstable

    • Written by from Ogdensburg

The dock is too light. When trying to undock my iPad 2, they both lift up together. Also, since the dock is so much narrower than the iPad, it tips too easily. The dock really needs to be as wide as the iPad and heavier.

    iPad Dock Alignment Issue

    • Written by from Des Peres

I just received my dock and iPad and am disappointed with the poor alignment between the dock and the iPad. It is difficult to simply set the iPad onto the doc. I have had to hold both the iPad and and dock in each hand to get them to join together.

Also the dock only permits the iPad to be docked in the "Portarit" position, not the "plan" view as recommended for surfing the net?????

Doesn't do landscape/not good for watching movies

    • Written by from Bastrop

The #1 reason I'd want my ipad to be held up is to watch a movie. Movies these days are widescreen, so one would want to watch them in landscape.

This stand does not hold the ipad in landscape mode, making it almost useless to me.

I really expect more from the apple design team. It's as if they just tossed it out in 5 minutes without putting any thought into it.

Great for charging, Terrible for use.

    • Written by from Kingston

I wanted to be able to dock my iPad 2 and use it as I normally would. But the dock seats at an extremely awkward angle for use, especially for typing, and this makes the viewing angle extremely uncomfortable as well. It sits very close to perpendicular, perhaps 80-85 degrees, whereas the original iPad keyboard dock laid it back at a much more usable angle. I'll probably keep this for my nightstand, but I'm going back to the iPad keyboard dock for my office desk. Even if the iPad 2 doesn't fit well on it, it's far more usable for me.

    Not that Dynamic

    • Written by from Alameda

It's not bad if all you need is to have it sit upright, power up, and/or plug into your stereo; it fits nice 'n' snug and feels secure like what's expected from Apple...

It DOES NOT have IR sensor like the iPhone/iPad docks do so you CAN NOT use the Apple remote with it.

It also DOES NOT accommodate landscape mode.

    Base too narrow

    • Written by from North Oaks

I was disappointed when this charger for iPad2 arrived. The photo from the side looks good - but the charger is only about half the width of the iPad AND, you can't keep your cover on when its in the dock.

    Useless

    • Written by from Enschede

If you use a back cover for your Ipad, like I do, it's almost useless. You need to remove the cover every time. So I almost don't use it.
But it looks very professional ^^.

    Very disappointing

    • Written by from Pittsburgh

I bought the dock so i don't have to go pluging and unplugging all the cables I have, av addapter, audio cable and so on. But to my surprise, it actually won't work that way. If you have conected the tv (trhough av adpter) and a stereo at the same time, you only get the audio in the TV. But what is worst, is that even if you have the TV off, you won't listen through your stereo when you have the AV addapter conected. So you have to go plugging and unplugging all the wires. Then iit doesn't makes much sense, since you can do that anyways without the dock, and if you conect directly the av adapter, and the audio cable to the ipad, then you get simultanously the audio on the TV and the stereo!!!!

Very expensive for just a stand for the ipad.

    Lovely, but...

    • Written by from Simi Valley

Does not work with any sort of case attached to iPad 2. I have a slim, clear case over the back and edges that's compatible with the terrific magnetic cover. However, the iP2 dock does not accommodate that cover, nor does it allow room for the many dock extenders that are available.

Too bad. Unless I can find a compatible adapter, I'll have to return the dock.
