    should be better

Poorly designed. No way to plug your computer USB and iPad's USB charger at the same time for those PCs that don't supply enough power through USB. That's just crazy.
The dock design also is poor as it should have somewhere on the front that you can hold when pulling out the iPad with the other hand, you have to hold the back of the dock to remove the iPad - very clumsy.
Also putting the iPad onto the Dock is a bit hit and miss as there is no guide to centre it, I'm sure over time this could damage the iPad's port.

    Great dock

    • Written by from Luddenham

It's everything you'd expect. People have been reporting that it is wobbly side to side but mine is really sturdy and doesn't move so I haven't had this issue. It also has a decent weight to it which means pushing the home button doesnt push the dock at all. I can also tap on the top of the ipad and the dock isn't going to fall over

    Happy with my purchase

I am sick of reading about people complaining that this dock is terrible all because it will not fit with their skin or case. It works absolutely perfect and I love it. It is VERY sturdy...I can lightly type on the iPad while docked, I've wiggled it, gave it a little shove and it stays firm and never once fell over! I am really enjoying utilizing it with the photos feature and use the iPad as a digital frame!
SO extremely happy I ignored the negative comments.

It's pretty good but at thirty bucks I recommend getting it somewhere cheaper since you can't use it with a case, cant use it in landscape mode, and can't adjust how you want it to be tilted. On the positive side, however, you can use it with some iPods and iPhone also and it makes a great way to some apple products into great alarm clocks. Plus it does everything it says.

Too limited for any real use. Portrait one means you can't use with a keyboard landscape-oriented programs. Requirement to remove iPad from case means I would only use this for aesthetic reasons and it isn't that attractive. Would recommend an ipad stand and the regular dock connector instead. Nice stand options in the Apple store or go to an office store and try out business card holders or look for a plate holder in a housewares store.

    What you would expect

This is a great dock for your iPad. It displays the iPad at a nice angle and the design means that the speakers are not covered so that you get great audio when the iPad is docked. It is a bit pricey, and it is a shame they don't supply a USB cable with it but how many do you really need?

Looks great, but cannot be used with case

Like the other reviewers, the main flaw of this product is that it cannot be used with a iPad case.

The part itself is basically a fancy extension to the USB cable provided with the iPad, allowing you to connect your iPad and display the screen vertically.
Build quality is very good (as you would expect for the price), with glossy white finish and rubber base to stop slipping on desk.

I ordered this with the iPad and the Apple iPad case. I cannot use the case and the dock together, and with the case you can stand the Ipad up horizontally - therefore I will probably be getting rid of this dock on ebay. My advice is to go with the case instead of this.

Using it with a Speck Candyshell case......excellent case and Speck have a flap designed into their case to allow use with this dock.....perfect all round!....well, perhaps unstable if you use it on a yacht or similar but perfectly stable on a desk!

    A Poor Design for iPad

I agree that it is inappropriate to consider this an iPAD docking station. It's fine for iPod, iPhone, or iTouch but far too small for the iPAD.

If you are a user who 1) has a case on your iPad or 2) has any interest in docking in landscape view then just walk away now.

No case including the Apple case works with the dock unless you want to cut into your case given that the spacing is way to tight.

I would also vote to just skip this and use the clever business card holder dock that a lot of people are doing or rely on the case itself to act as a stand.

Not compatible with Apple iPad Case; too narrow; should be landscape mode

Doesn't work with the iPad in the Apple iPad Case. That's just stupid.

Too narrow--the iPad wobbles too much when installed. The base should be wider.

Making it portrait mode doesn't make any sense. It should have been landscape mode or at least an option. Watching movies? Landscape. WebEx meetings? Landscape. Games? Landscape. Sure I read books and browse the web in portrait mode, but then the device is in my hands...

    Useless with case

It is rather bizarre that Apple didn't design their own dock and case to work together. It's too much of a hassle having to take it out of it's snug case every time.

If you don't need this, then just stand up your iPad it the case instead!

    Great engineering, pants design

As the other review says, this dock doesn't provide enough lateral support and the iPad can wobble from side to side. That might be something of a judgement call in development though What's undeniable however is that it wont take any iPad in a case; the tolerances are just too fine. I just don't understand why Apple didn't choose to make it compatible with their own case...?! I would also suggest that putting a curve in the back would have made it iPhone compatible. I don't know how many docks Cupertino wants us to buy but making none of them flexible across products I don't want to buy any. I'd have been really miffed with this if I hadn't been given mine...

I agree with the many other reviewers- this is a complete waste as I cannot put the ipad on it with the apple case on it. That is just dumb. And a waste of my money as well.

Difficult to use with the case

    • Written by from North Myrtle Beach

11 of 17 people found this useful

Works fine, but if you want to use it with the Apple iPad case, you will have to do some surgery on the case. Otherwise, the base will not fit far enough into the iPad to make the connection needed to charge. The needed modification can be easily completed with an exacto knife, but you would think that accessories would be made to work together. So I give it 3 stars

No audio control when line-out connected

    • Written by from Gainesville

15 of 26 people found this useful

The dock holds the iPad, charges it and syncs ( if you buy a cable in addition).
But what's not acceptable at all: when you connect speakers via the line-out of the dock, you cannot control the volume through the iPad!!
Yes, that's right. If your speakers don't have an additional volume control, this dock is useless for playing music. Unfortunately!
I hope there is an update on this issue soon.

Does not provide enough support. The base should be at least 1 inch wider to properly support the iPad. Does not support landscape mode.
