Difficult for iPad 2 to connect and has no front lip/flange unlike previous one that worked better. Come'on apple - geez.

Feels too restricted to use this dock!

    • Written by from Singapore

This dock restricts the use of iPad a lot:
    1. The (all) volume control buttons gets disabled when using the audio out socket on this dock. You have to use the headset socket on ipad to control voice.
    2. This dock would only support Portrait mode!
    3. You can not use any protective covers to use this dock.

It's fine to use for demo purposes like Apple uses in it's stores; for me it slowly became useless over period of time after initial excitement of purchasing it.

I would not recommend it for common use.

Love all things APPLE.... Except this dock; it's NOT GOOD. Don't bother.

    • Written by from Marlborough

I immediately purchased one of these the night I bought my IPad3. I thought the idea was great. Tried to use it for a week and returned it last night.

Even the people at the Apple store could not believe how poorly it works, particularly the sound control with the speaker jack. They tested it on the spot with speakers. Sure enough, they saw what I was talking about.

    1) The angle it holds your IPad at is not good, not good at all.

    2) If you use a cover for your IPad, (who doesn't), plan on removing it every single time you want to dock it. A royal pain.

    3) If you plug in speakers, you loose ALL control of the volumn. The hard switch is disabled, the electronic control is blacked out, even the control on Pandora is useless. The dock-speaker jack appropriates your entire sound control to a very high volumn and you can't do a thing about it.

Once when the phone rang, I could not turn the volumn down, Then again when there was a knock at the door, I could not immediately adjust the volumn. This is useless.

They were GREAT at the Apple store. Gave me my refund and I bought an extension cord instead for my IPad. I still love all things Apple and the customer service is stil great.

    Stopped charging after 8 months

    • Written by from New Haven

During the short time that it worked, we were satisfied with it. We purchased it in March 2011 and then one day in November it abruptly stopped charging the iPad. I expected this product to last longer than 8 months even if it did only cost $30.

    Not very good

    • Written by from Boston

It does what it's supposed to, charges your ipad and even allows you to jack in external speakers.

it is solid built, and bigger than the older one.

    Problem:

it does not come off easily. which is annoying. cus you have to hold your ipad with one hand, and use your other on the dock, and wiggle ur ipad free.

it doesn't fit if u have the smart cover on.

i was told that it is spongy - doesnt scratch the ipad where the ipad sits.. no.. it isn't

    Tough Alignment

    • Written by from Columbus

While the stand is very convenient once you get the iPad installed, alignment is quite difficult. I have to pick up the base and fiddle with it almost every time I use it. I'm not sure if it's the fault of the iPad or the base, but it pretty disappointing.

Works fine but not needed - not required

    • Written by from Virginia Beach

If you do not use your iPad as a "frame" for digital pictures, you will likely not use this dock. I bought one for my wife with her iPad - but most folks who own an iPad usually buy a protective cover - this dock is NOT compatible with any cover. And if you have a cover, you will likely charge the iPad with a straight power cord. I would recommend not getting this accessory unless you want to use your iPad solely at home and on your night stand or desk. But it's (iPad) mobility is one of it's strong points - hence a protective cover - hence no need for the Dock.
Again, mine works fine and has a tight fit - no problem there. Just not that practical for the majority of iPad owners in my opinion.

    Mr. Wobbly

    • Written by from Riverside

We bought the case and dock together, thinking we could charge our Ipad with the dock while in the case. First, the dock does not provide for a secure friction fit. Second, we have not been able to use the case and the dock together. Finally, I would not recommend either product; there are better cases and the dock is too small to provide a secure pedestal for your device.

    Useless with the case

    • Written by from Knebworth

I wish I had read these reviews before purchasing both the case and this dock. I keep my iPad in the case all the time, so the dock is useless to me. Sorry Apple, love your products, but as everyone has said you need to rethink this one.

    Can't work with a case

    • Written by from Marble Falls

It is a hassle to take out the iPad from its case just to put it on the dock.

    Inferior design

    • Written by from Twickenham

Although the dock technically works as advertised, the incompatibility with the iPad case renders either the dock or the case unusable, on a day to day basis. Poor design

    Disappointed!

    • Written by from Sumiton

I bought a dock thinking it would be nice way to use as well as charge my iPad. If you have no protective case or skin the it works ok. If however you want to protect this $500+ investment, your out of luck because any additional thickness in the iPad causes it not to fit into the dock. . It does work with the folding case by Apple of which I finally purchased, but forget the Otterbox cases. Disappointed!

    Case Compatability-NOT

    • Written by from San Diego

Before you buy this consider whether you are going to be putting your iDevice in a case. While the Apple cases are great they don't work well with the dock. Taking the case on and off to use the dock just isn't practical in daily use. I'd recommend skipping this purchase.

Does not fit with black Apple case on

    • Written by from Colorado Springs

I picked mine up from the Apple Store and the sales rep told me that it A) came with a cable & B) it works with the case. Got it home, unpacked it all and found neither to be true. Now i have to take it back but the store is out of my way.

Won't work with the Apple remote!

    • Written by from REIGATE

I have been using an iPod with dock and remote for a couple of years now in conjunction with my HiFi - brilliant! Having recently acquired an iPad I thought that I could use the iPad in the same way, but couldn't believe that it hasn't been provided with a remote facility. I will not now be buying one and will wait 'till Apple include this feature. Oh! by the way, the iPod dock and remote work perfectly well with the iPhone! So I will use this combination for the time being.

Works as a stand, but its flawed

    • Written by from Reading

    Plus points:

Its chunkier than it looks, so even with the small footprint your iPad won't fall over.
    Line out is handy.

    Minus points:

Won't fit if your iPad has a case. Even the slimline Apple one. And because cases are typically fiddly to remove you'll never use this dock if you have one.

iPhones don't fit in this - not even the iPhone 4

    iPad Dock

    • Written by from Coral Springs

I bought this thinking i could have my videos play on my flat screen tv. I used the VGA cable connection and it said my device(TV) was not compatible to show the video from the Ipad. I tried movies from iTunes and video that was on my iPad(home video) no luck.

I also had a case and had to modify the case so i could dock the iPad.

Anyone have the same problem with compatibility? Should i get the component cables instead?

If you need the case don't buy this

    • Written by from Macclesfield

As you can see many reviews explain the case can not be used in conjunction with the dock, however the case seems fairly essential to protect the ipad.

My grudge is Apple at no point indicate the 2 do not work together and when you come to the check out stage of the ipad purchase the 2 items are offered at the same time and with a quick read of the descriptions both items sound like a good idea so I bought both

    iPad Dock

    • Written by from Philadelphia

The iPad dock is nice for syncing and other uses but I don't like how it doesn't have an IR reciever for music use.
