So I have came from using a PC and a number of other DAW's to using a Mac. First thing, Logic is awesome. Yes others have more shiny new stuff but I have not had one problem with logic and it sounds great straight out of the box. It may be in need of some TLC from Apple with a new update just to keep things fresh but I cant complain about anything else.

I have used Logic pro for just over five years! The software has continued to deteriorate over this time with minor bugs becoming major bugs! Even after supposed update fixes the software performs badly, it currently hardly performs at all on Mountain LIon.

Apple seriously need to address this as i have lost all confidence in the product and I am now looking to change DAW.

I would not recommend looking at logic until the company release an update!

What The Pro's Use To Make Music

This is what the modern producer uses in he Professional studio. Logic Pro is used every day by the biggest producers in music. working in a Professional Studio I hook up mac book pro's running Logic up to producer's UAD Apollos or apogee ensembles etc. they basically use the million dollar rooms to critically listen, while they make a 16 or 32 bar section of a song and they all use Logic because it is so simple to and intuitive, comes with incredible stock synths and samples.

Once they finish tracking we run each track through the outs of their convertors, through our analog gear for depth, color & to help create that large sound that only analog gear can produce. from there its into our Black Lion Audio upgraded 192's, clocked with Antelope Audio's Isochrone Trinity and finally into Pro Tools HD where it is processed and Mixed along with vocals, gtrs, etc. to create a finished mix before being sent to the mastering engineer.

you may ask why I explain the whole process and don't spend a large % bragging about just Logic. (Which is an amazing tool, don't get me wrong)

Logic is great at getting ideas out fast, easily and hassle free. it is not however the only tool you will need to create a hit record. I would not recommend it as a stand alone tool because of the inherent sterile sound of the mixer built into the program, the editing capabilities are lacking, there are also head room issues.
past this if you are looking at Logic for a sampler/synth. there is nothing better and this is why it deserves 5 stars.

    My nightmare

It looks cool with all the effects and so on but after really working with it I hate myself I have not got something really proffesional. E.g. wave editing is horrible. The graphic reproduction is bad, you never get this nice thin line to cut, it always goes back out of zoom when switching windows and zooming in is bulky as all the rest of the operations. Everything is so miniature you can't even see it. I fight the software more then I work with it. It is a real nightmare for me. As the whole Apple/Mac experience actually.

    Problematic in 64-bit with Lion

I am a composer professionally using Logic and am sorry to say that I am frustrated by the buggy nature and frequent pops and clicks etc. when running Logic in 64-bit in Lion. Snow Leopard by contrast, although not able to load as many tracks into RAM, was much more stable.

    Not compatible with Mountain Lion

I've been a logic user for 8 years but I've never had so many problems as now. Logic has become extremely slow and unresponsive (up to 3 minutes). Also, all third party plug ins make it even slower and unusable. This means thousands of dollars on additional software which I have no access to.

I've always been a fan of Logic, but this takes that love away. I've had these issues for 2 months and no reals solutions. My counsel: #1 don't buy logic until all problems with Mountain Lion are fixed. #2 if you must have a DAW now, look somewhere else.

I have been producing music on logic since before Apple acquired it from the previous developer.

I purchased Logic Pro 7 from Apple for $1000, and i have since spent another $500+ in "upgrades" to get to the current format of logic Pro 9. Shortly after my reluctant upgrade from 8 to 9, Apple released a promotional price of $300 for the entire program. That is just a little more than I paid to upgrade. Still no discount for upgrades though. In short loyal long time customers have now paid over $1,500.00 to get a $300 program. A slight kick in the pants for its Pro oriented customers. As a pro user you can add 7 computers, 4 iphones, 3 ipads and some ipods to that shopping cart as well.

In that time I have watched Apple drop Key production features out of Logic in order to make room for programming codes that dumb down the DAW interface and create undesired glitches within the frame of what was an excellent platform from Emagic.

Now that Mac has solidified its abandonment of the professional grade market by dropping the mac pro and pretty much all R&D for Logic as well, I find myself more and more disappointed with logics performance. Another product that has let go of functionality for aesthetics.

I have, in fact, spent well over 40 hours reverting and reformatting my system back to Snow Leopard (very difficult as Mac firmware no longer supports reverse compatibility) but also reverting logic to a version of LP9 that is stable within that operating system. I had to do this as there is no version of LP9 that works properly in any operating system after SL.

OS 10.6.8 + Logic 9.1.6/7 is the most stable combo that will run on intel based Mac. Trust me.. I tried the rest. I would prefer to go back to logic pro 7 but once again No reverse compatibility.

Hopefully the 2software developers... Yes two... still working on logic will at least make it stable again so we can finish our mixes and move to another software manufacturer.

Sorry Mac but after years of total loyalty you left me and the Professional market out in the cold.

I have been using Logic Studio since it arrived a couple of years ago. It has been great. Produced many tracks and 2 Pro Cds so far. It is an easy enviroment to work in, however I know think its due for an up grade and kept at a pro level and not diminished down to a cheap little app. Lets See LOGIC 10, and keep it up there with the big players!

    Logic needs major update !!!

This DAW is outdated already. There is so much to be improved all around
Apple we mostly buy your hardware to use your software, if the software does not satisfy users then we do not need apple hardware. Logic have got great competitors these days who improved quite well their daws.
Logic is a good piece of daw but for 2012 missing some very important features.....for example to not be able to edit multiple midi clips.........

Anyway you can still make a great music in Logic but it would have been greater if we could look at much better graphic and much more logical way of using the software.

    Thanks.

I've been using logic for 12 years. I recently upgraded to Lion and intel mac and thats when everything started to go wrong. Constant crashing, hanging and graphic errors.

I'm not happy that the more money I spend with apple the worse the software gets.

Logic itself is great but the stability within Lion is a big big problem for me.

Paid $500 dollars for this program for the Soundtack Pro element to produce my podcast. DO NOT PURCHASE!!! multiple crashes, dysfunctional, and unreliability -- lost work, lost time, etc. You never know whether you will get the swirling beachball of death at any time and lose all work. Multiple online sources say Apple is moving away from this product and is no longer investing -- but they don't tell you that when taking your $500!!! If you want to edit audio, use Adobe Audition. STAY AWAY FROM SOUNDTRACK PRO!

    1. THIS IS THE GREATEST DAW EVER CREATED IN MY OPINION.
    2. THE ONLY THING THAT I WILL CHANGE TO MAKE IT PERFECT IS TO GET RID OF THE SAMPLE EDITOR AND MAKE IT SO THAT WE THE USER COULD MANIPULATE THE AUDIO ON THE ARRANGE WINDOW THIS WILL BE GREAT.
    3. AND MAYBE WORK ON LOGIC INTERFACES A LITTLE MAYBE MAKE THE FADER MORE LIKE PROTOOLS OR SOMETHING. IDNT KNOW.... IM SURE APPLE TEAM CAN COME UP WITH SOMETHING.
4.TRUST ME ALOT OF PEOPLE WILL APRECIATE THIS.

    THANK YOU!
