I have a 24" aluminum iMac G5 that i want to add a second monitor to. Can I do this? Is this the cable I need? Thanks!

i have a new 24" mac (mini DVI) and i want to attach it to my mac book pro (DVI-I). will the cables be long enough? will DVI-D work with the pro?
and should they be male or female. The cables definately don't look long enough for ease of use as the mini DVI jack on the mac is behind it in the centre, but maybe i'm being stupid or something, please email me back,

Best AnswerI was at a Genius Bar today and the guy said it couldn't be done going from a Macbook Pro to an analog TV. This adapter works for a Mac Air, but there is no adapter going from a MBP to Analog TV. Drats!

Best AnswerThere is no direct adapter for this use case. Your TV is ANALOG, the new Apple TV is HDMI and that is a purely DIGITAL output. There are some expensive digital to analog adapter boxes available, but with the $300 or so you would spend on that, I would recommend you spend that on a new HDTV that can take advantage of all the HD content out there (and connect to your new Apple TV)

I need analog video out and am looking to purchase a new Macbook and want to know if apple has an adapter that is supported at this time. I bought a new Macbook in June of 2009 and Apple had no adapters that were supported at that time for the new Macbook or Mac Mini.

Best AnswerIt depends on whether you LCD has a DVI or VGA terminal. Mine only has DVI. So I had to purchase a mini DVI to DVI adaptor, a DVI to HDMI Adaptor a HDMI Cable and a headphone jack to RCA.
