Should i fix the logic board and screen on my 2009 macbook pro for about $900 or just buy a new macbook pro?
The old macbook pro was just the cheapest 13" version, and if i choose to buy a new one, it would be one of the cheaper 13" versions.

AnswerI would suggest purchasing a new machine. Think about the tech specs. You probably have a laptop with a: 2.0 ghz dual core processor, 2 GB ram, and 80 GB of HD space and a laptop battery that has over 300 cycles (aka it doesn't hold a charge an adequate charge anymore). Yes, you have a new logic board and screen, but it is still 3 years old and starting to show its age, and you are either shelling out $900 cash or putting it on a CC and paying interest. With a new machine you can go 0% for 12 months.

What's better for an incoming college student Macbook pro 13-inch or Macbook pro with retina display?
I recently purchased a Mac 13-inch to find out that a few days later Apple had made the announcement of the new Mac and was wondering if I should upgrade.

Best AnswerDepends.
Weight isn't a problem because the new 15 macbook pro with retina display weighs less than the 13 inch macbook pro.
Do you need a cd drive??
You can buy an external cd drive for 79.99. Is that okay?
Does pricing matter?
Macbook pro with retina display base model starts at 2199 and other model starts at 2799.
If you are fine with an external cd drive and you can afford it definitely get the macbook pro with retina display- Answered by Jesse B from Thornhill

I've been trying to decide whether to get the new ipad mini or a macbook air; I need it for basic school needs and personal needs as well.
As for school needs I only need it for basic things such as word docs, possibly powerpoints, nothing too serious and downloading music and photography; which would be easier to use/more convenient and easy to carry around, its hard to decide because theyre both so great and highly recommended, but I want to know which would be best for me.

- Asked about: iPad
AnswerHello. As soon as I read "I need it for basic school needs," I thought a Macbook Air would be the answer. I have an iPad 2, and while it is fun, I do all my serious work on my computer. Using an actual keyboard would be faster for Word docs, while you still can download music and photography. You can use a flash drive for backup of your work, which is very important. The Macbook Air is very lightweight and could be carried around in a knapsack.

I am looking for a macbook for heavy photo editing. I want a laptop instead of a desktop because I travel so much, so which one should I get?
I have an HP Pavilion that is just about dead, so I'm switching over, but when I built a macbook pro online, I was getting a very expensive computer. I was wondering what would be the most important parts of the car that I should get and which ones I shouldn't care as much about. (I have a 2 TB external hard drive).

AnswerIf you're looking for something light and portable, it's the MacBook Air you should go for. If you want something that's got more storage space, good performance and a Retina Display that gives you great image quality, it's the MacBook Pro with Retina Display. It also dipends on what programes and software you're going to use for example:iPhoto, Photoshop, Apeture and so on, then I would go for the MacBook Pro with Retina Display because its much faster, has more processing speed, more ports and its quite thin and portable as well. It just depends on what you can afford and what you really want. Good Luck.

13-Inch Macbook Pro vs. 15-Inch Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display?
I'm planning on buying a macbook pro, and I was wondering which would be the best choice. What I'd usually use it for is school work, and slight gaming. eg. Dota 2
Is the 15-Inch Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display worth it? Or is the higher end 13-inch Macbook Pro good enough?- Asked by Christine A from Binondo

Best Answeri have both macbook pro's the high end retina display model and the high end 13 inch model which i use for work.
if you are going to use it primarily for work and a bit of gaming then i recommend the high end 13 inch as it will be better overall in terms of carrying it everywhere.
if you have high amounts of money to spend then you might as well settle for best macbook pro with retina display i highly recommend it
but i usually carry my 13 inch everywhere in terms of taking it on planes and things to do work but at home i always use my 15 inch with retina
if you want to optimise quality of things u do like gaming then get a retina display model
if your not fussed about the screen you could always get a high end 15 inch without retina display then buy thunderbolt display which is 27 inch- Answered by Suraj L from Leicester

Is the macbook air good for my needs?
Right now I'm in the process of trying to figure out what macbook to get, and while I'm really leaning towards the Air, I am not entirely convinced.
Basically, I'm going to be traveling a lot for the next few years, which is why the lightness of the air appeals to me. I'm pretty much planning on using it for writing documents, storing pictures, watching movies, skyping people, browsing the internet, and storing my iTunes library on. Is the air good for that, and will it last a good amount of time? I've had a regular macbook since early 2008, and while it's given me no problems up til now, it's getting old and slow, and this is after 4 years of heavy use in university. I don't think I'll be using this mac as much as I did in uni, but I would like to have something that's pretty solid and will last awhile. So yeah, is the air my best bet?- Asked by Nadine B from Barrie

AnswerThe only possible issue I can see would be the fact that it doesn't have a built-in optical drive (CD/DVD reader/writer). You can buy one that plugs into the MacBook Air and works fine from Apple, but that will be one extra item to bring along on your travels. But nothing you mentioned sounds like it will be too much for a MacBook Air.

If you want a server, Mac is probably not your best option unless you have a specific need to run Mac programs. Mac is a desktop computer. Even the Apple website itself uses a Linux-based server. Good server operating systems include Linux (CentOS or Red Hat), OpenBSD, NetBSD, and FreeBSD.

Which one is better? Macbook pro or Macbook Air
I'm a designer.

Best AnswerAs a designer, I assume you'll be using some fairly heavy graphical programs. The MacBook Air is great for portability, but it really isn't the best for heavier work. The Pro is really your best option, as it can handle the demand (particularly the 15 or 17 inch models with their graphics cards).

Is it possible to upgrade the graphics card on the Macbook Pro 13"?
I'm looking to buy a new laptop and am currently undecided between the higher-end Macbook Pro 13" and the lower end 15". I like the size of the 13" and the specs are all good EXCEPT the graphics card. I play Sims 3 a lot and I also do some video editing and Photoshop works. Plus, the 15" is a little out of my budget. Is it possible to customize my Macbook Pro's graphics card from the current integrated Intel HD 4000 to a dedicated NVIDIA one?

Which do I get a 13" air or pro, mainly using it for recording, internet, pictures, films etc. which one? sixth form student so portability needed.
I'm going to be a student at a sixth form college, taking music and other subjects. The reason I'm buying a mac, is because they have a great recording system and software. I'll need it to be portable as I'm going to be travelling an hour bus journey everyday, so don't really want to be lugging anything too heavy around. I'll mainly use it for recording, lengthy essays, playing music, storing photos, using the internet and watching films. So, everything a computer needs to be basically, and a disk drive is desirable although not essential. Thank you!

AnswerI believe that you should purchase the 13" Pro. While the Air is certainly great for its portability you will be needing the extra storage that comes standard with the Pro. I just purchased the 13" Pro and find it to be extremely portable. The additional speed of the Pro may also be an asset to you. Especially since you desire a disk drive, the choice is fairly clear that the MacBook Pro is the ideal solution.

Do the refurbished macs have turbo boost?

AnswerDepends on the Refurbished macs for example this mac book air says:
Processor 1.7 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 (Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz)
and it was under the Refurbished area, so yes some do.- Answered by Craig S from Neenah

Which Mac book Pro is best for use in a home studio or a professional studio?
I started looking at macbook pros a while ago. eventually, I started wondering which one would be best for me. I'll be getting one for the same reasons any person would get one: things like storing photos, videos, music, word and powerpoint documents and other things; however, most of what I'd do with one is writing and recording music with software like Logic Pro or Pro Tools. review sites and recommendations from friends have told me that the base line 13 inch would be fine. but, I've also told my friends that I'd like to write video tracks to go with my projects in, for example, Logic Pro. when that comes up, nobody seems to know. Now, I wonder if one of the 15 inch models is preferred for that, or if there's even a noticeable difference between the two computers. any ideas?
