New Retina 13'' vs 15" for researcher using programs like Matlab or Stata
Hello to everyone! I need to invest in a new laptop that can match both my needs: portability and performance. I use to bring it with me everythere and so MBPr 13" seems to be better for me. However I'm willing to pay a little bit more (compared to the overall price) and bear a bigger dimension (... I think that the real disadvantage is the size, since it seems to be largest rather than actually heaviest in my opinion) if the 15"s stronger performance is relevant for my requirements. I will use it to work above all on software like Madlab and Stata to perform econometric algorithms; I need to install also windows on it; I want to be sure I won't need to buy a new laptop for the next 5 years. Is the 13" sufficient for me, or buying the 15" I will see the difference in performance?

So I am looking at getting the MBP in June and I want to use it for light gaming, i.e. battlefield 3 and or crisis 2,or 3.
Hey apple lovers, I am looking to get a MBP this summer but I want to know what I should get. As I said earlier I want to do some light gaming. I really don't think I need the high graphics but I also don't want to get an underpowered system. I am looking at the MBP 13in 2012, with a 500gb hard drive and 8gigs of ram. Think that would be enough? THANKS!!!

Which mac would you suggest i buy?
So my PC is on its way out and it seems logical to switch over to mac. This means i'll be using it for everything; that is, browsing online and streaming, listening to the 60gb of music i have, occasionally movies, and writing etc. but also I will need it for high powered things such as Photoshop, Illustrator and Final Cut Pro. The obvious thing i guess would be the 27" 3.2ghz for optimum power, but i also like the idea of a macbook to take it about with me. I might be willing to splash out on the 27", but would anyone recommend anything else? I wouldn't really play games, but I often have pro creative software.

Macbook Pro 13 in or Macbook Air 13 inch?
So I'm torn between which of these two models to be going through with. I am currently in high school and plan on going in to college to get a Masters or PhD, the major is still questionable, and I need a laptop that'll last me a while.
But the bottom line here is: Which is right for me?
- I LOVE music, in all, I download about 5 songs per day, and already have 1000+ songs on my iTunes
-I download multiple photos, when taking pictures with my iPhone, downloading them on to my computer, making photo albums
-I will need dependable battery life with good portability.
-Then simple day stuff, like Netflix, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
-I will probably download a couple of apps from the Mac App Store.
-Typing a substantial amount of essays
If anyone can help my decision, thank you, in advance. Have a nice day!- Asked by Tommy R from Charlotte

Best AnswerI'm a massive fan of the Air 13', i have MBP 17 and they are true work horses, I'm a pro photographer and someone told me the air was a toy for me, then a chance meeting with a mac nut told me to have another look, the Solid state drive makes it fast, very faster, I can open it on a plane in economy (thats where I travel) and the battery is better
Sure its not as good as the MBP but the less weight and size means I use it 10 times as much, its a little like the iphone, most of my daily emails are answered from it, those tiny keys are a pain but it beats pulling out a computer every 10seconds, either way you will not be disappointed but for my money consider the air, oh and the weight difference is about one decent text book, think of walking around campus carrying an extra book for no reason. As a last note the smaller HD forces me to back up, which has proved a life saver.- Answered by Edward S from Sydney

Im in the process of comparing the Macbook Pro and Macbook Air. What's the difference and which one will I get the most for my dollar?

Best AnswerHonestly Alfred, that really depends on how you will be using your Mac on a daily basis.
If you're usually always on the go, and need something to quickly give you access to the web, emails, spreadsheets, documents, PDFs, etc. the Air is a great choice. (This is not always the case by any means, but usually those who get the Air may have other computers as well, such as desktops, and just need something on the go) On the other hand, the MacBook Air is pretty great. You get the Flash Storage options, that lets the Mac wake up just like an iOS device. You get 30 days of standby time if not using the Mac, the latest Graphics from Intel, a drive that's about twice the speed of ATA drives, and all in a body less than 2.38-2.96 lbs. depending on the display you get.
Now, if you need a power house, the MacBook Pro is your answer. With it's Quad-Core iSeries processor (15-inch and 17-inch only), it is capable of doing twice the shear number crunching of the MacBook Air. If you are going to be editing video day-in and out, this is a must have. This Mac is also offered in the 13, 15, and 17-inch display models. Even if you get the 13-inch, that's still loads of power. 2.4GHz, 4GB for RAM that you can update to 8GB, and on the higher up models, you get not only one, but two graphics boost. First, is the Intel 3000 card, and you also get the (ranging from) AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512MB GDDR5 (base 15-inch) to the AMD Radeon HD 6770M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 (17-inch)
Bottom line, the MacBook Air is great for when on the go. Its light, ultra portable, and quite fast. But if you need the most for what you pay for, I'd recommend the Pro. It has more RAM, hard drive, display, and even graphic options. Also, you can update the Pro once you purchase it, something you can't do on the Air. (not even RAM) So if you like the freedom to alter your hard drive, RAM, later on, I'd get the MacBook Pro.
Sorry for the long response, but I do hope it helps!- Answered by Darren R from Chireno

Logic Pro 9 upgrade to next Logic Pro
I want to purchase Logic Pro 9, but I've seen rumors that the newest Logic Pro may be coming out soon. I would like to wait until the next one comes out, but no one knows when that will be. So, if I purchase Logic Pro 9 now, would I be able to just upgrade to the next version for free or for a reduced fee?

Loaded 13 inch macbook air or pro or base config + upgrades?
I'm off to college this fall and I need a new computer. I'd mostly use it for email, web browsing, itunes, word documents, powerpoints, school stuff, to and from class, etc. I don't do gaming, but occasioinally edit photos and videos, but not very often.
I hate slow computers, and I need a lot of memory, as I have a huge music/video library.
So here's the two options I'm looking at...
MacBook Air, 13 inch
•2.0GHz Intel Dual-Core Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
•8GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM
•512GB Flash Storage
$2,199.00
MacBook Pro, 13 inch
•2.9GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
•8GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM — 2x4GB
•512GB Solid State Drive
$2,399.00
I'm going to school in Manhattan so I need something ultra-portable, and I love the portability of the air, and I think I'd be fine not having a built in superdrive as I don't do much with those but well idk. Some people say the Pro is more durable for mobility. Plus I've been looking into DIY upgrades and am almost wondering if I should get a base configuration of the Pro and upgrade it myself because that might save some cash? Idk I don't know that I'd trust myself not to mess that up though. Is the Pro worth the extra $200 for comparable specs? I've read that it's easier to upgrade later down the road, unlike the air, but I'm not sure the drawbacks in weight would be worth it? I use a lot of memory, but I believe you can update the hard drive on the air, its the RAM you can't change right? So like the Pro, I could also upgrade the Air later. Does anyone know if there would be much difference between these two particular models in boot speed, downloading speed, etc? Which better fits my needs?
Any input is greatly appreciated!

do i need an adapter as well as an HDMI cable to connect my Macbook Air to my HD tv
- Asked by Sarah A
- 12 31, 12
- Flag as inappropriate
Answerit depends on which type of adaptor you have.
Some adaptors will connect to the apple device and require you to attach(use) a HDMI cable to the adaptor at one end and at the other end to the tele. This type of adaptors are very small.
Some adaptors connect to the apple device and on the other end they have a HDMI connection which goes into your TV.- Answered by Shahbaz M

As a Transferring College student: Which is better for me? a Macbook Air or Pro? (Aiming to be a teacher)
I'm currently transferring to a 4 year university to double major in History and Psychology, of which I plan on teaching at a high school level. I've noticed that schools are moving more and more towards technology, and Macs, that I might as well embrace the Mac as well, to get used to the format of it. I am familiar with IPod Nanos, Ipod Touches, and Iphones.
Currently I'm leaning towards the Macbook Pro, mainly for a SSD. But it never hurts to have the advice of others. Correct?
What I plan on doing with it, is exactly what I do with my Desktop at home. Write papers, make power point presentations, print out designs, play movies, music, and games. (if it handles all sims 3 games, perfect), making short movies, draw, etc.
So what do you guys think?- Asked by Stephanie W from Bessemer

More space/capacity
Upgradeable RAM
SuperDrive (CD Drive)

Should I get an iMac or a Macbook pro
I am a designer of print, web, apps and sometimes video. I often have very large files and would like to get a computer that is trustworthy and fast. I currently have a late 2010 I-mac and a 2012 macbook air. Both of which cant handle the large files I am working with.
Should I go with the new iMac fully upgraded or the Macbook Pro fully loaded?
Also as a note I do not care about portability.- Asked by Erwin H from San Diego

Best AnswerGet the Mac with the best video card that you can afford. The new 27" iMac can be upgraded with a 2 GB video card, upgraded to an i7 processor, and 32 GB of RAM. The new 21.5" iMac has a weak video card that cannot be upgraded. The laptops are not as upgradeable as the iMacs, and will overheat when you try to do advanced graphic work on them.

Do any of your chess games allow me to force the computer to play a particular opening?
I ask this question because I want to use the computer to help me improve in certain chess openings. For example, if I play white, can I force black (the computer) to play the French defence? The game that came with my mac will not allow me to do this.

iPad and Mac mini or MacBook
My current windows laptop is on the conk and I'm thinking of making the switch to mac. I already have an iPhone and iPad 2 and will shortly be getting Apple TV. My question is what is a better idea - Mac mini using the iPad as display and getting a mouse and keyboard or getting a MacBook? I pretty much use my laptop to produce power points and spreadsheets and a bit of web surfing/gaming. Any thoughts?

Should I get a MacBook air or pro?
I am going into middle school and I don't know which one is better. It will mostly be used for school and going on the internet. Which one is better (also what size) thanks :)

Best AnswerA macbook air is mainly used for traveling and surfing the internet and emailing, if you are going to use an SD card i suggest the macbook air 13 inches, only becuase it has a bigger screen, although if you are price wise i would go with the 11 inch that does not have an SD card, but still works just as good. How ever if you are looking at the macbook pro it is mainly for gaming and photo editing, etc. The best idea is to go with the macbook air, specificly the 13 inch if you use and SD card. You can however go on the internet with the macbook pro and email and write essay and such, but the macbook air is the best of both for internet and email.

Macbook Air 11" 2012 4GB vs 8GB?
I want to get a macbook air for university but I dont know if it'a worth it to upgrade the 11" to 8 GB of RAM or to just keep it at 4GB?
- Asked by Lindsay M from Vernon
- 07 10, 12

Best AnswerIt depends on how you will use your machine, and what apps you use regularly. If you use apps such as Photoshop, then more RAM will make a difference. Or, if you like to run many apps at one time, or have lots of tabs open in your browser.
Some other pros and cons consider: You can't upgrade it later--never. If you intend to resell it, you probably won't get the money back out of the upgrade. If you keep it a "long" time, you will want more RAM as apps develop and require more.
Personally, I have never regretted having more RAM.- Answered by Jon M from Clarkesville

MacBook Pro vs. Mac Mini: Which to buy?
I am a photographer and videographer and am looking to upgrade my '08 macbook pro 15 inch. I use photoshop, finalcut, lightroom heavily and need something that can actually keep up. Initially I was going to fork over the money for a new macbook pro 15 inch i7 with upgraded ram. However, the mac mini is appealing due to the price point and I already have a display, keyboard, and mouse that I would use with it. Just wanted to hear thoughts on both and see which might be better to get in the longterm.
