AnswerThe 21.5 inch baseline iMac is perfect for you. With a 2.5GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 processor and 500GB of storage, this computer is ultra-fast and will last a long time! It is also currently the cheapest iMac offered by Apple. Other great features you will enjoy on it is the high-res display, slim all-in-one profile, and an integrated HD FaceTime Camera.

11" MacBook Air or 13" MacBook Pro?
Through my school, I will either receive an 11" macbook air or pay $59 for a 13" macbook pro. I currently have an 2008 15" MB Pro w/ 250GB. I like the sound of a very portable laptop, but am concerned about being disappointed with the smaller hard drive and no disc drive.
My typical use includes:
= internet
= video streaming
= iPhoto
= using PDFs
What do you all recommend?
Here are the specs on each laptop:
11-inch Macbook Air
= 1.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor
= 8GB 1600MHz DDR3 onboard memory
= 128GB flash storage
= Intel HD Graphics 4000
= 11.6" high-resolution LED-backlit widescreen display
= Thunderbolt Port
= Illuminated keyboard
= 802.11n Wi-Fi wireless networking
= Bluetooth
= Built-in FaceTime HD camera
The 13-inch MacBook Pro. ($59 upgrade)
= 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
= 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 Memory
= 500GB Hard Drive
= Intel HD Graphics 4000
= SDXC card slot
= 13.3"LED-Backlit glossy widescreen
= illuminated keyboard, FaceTime HD Camera
= Thunderbolt port
= FireWire 800 port.- Asked by Andrew N from Edmond

Best AnswerI am no expert, but i think that the macbook Air would be a better choice for you. Despite the lack of the disc drive and the limited space on it, you could use those 60 bucks for purchasing an external hdd. And i also believe apple has an external disc drive aswell. You would be better off using the fast flash storage/SSD for your most important documents that you need the most access to. And your couple extra not-that-important files in your external hdd. The specs in the MBA are much better for what you will use so here it is in my opinion, your best choice.

If you want a server, Mac is probably not your best option unless you have a specific need to run Mac programs. Mac is a desktop computer. Even the Apple website itself uses a Linux-based server. Good server operating systems include Linux (CentOS or Red Hat), OpenBSD, NetBSD, and FreeBSD.

A 13" or 15" Macbook Pro for law student that does A LOT of word processing and reading on the screen?
I am a second year law student, and after a year of suffering with an old PC laptop I think it's about time to make the switch to Apple. Originally I was drawn to the 13" Macbook Pro due to its portability and reasonable price (with the education discount).
However upon inspecting a 13" it seemed a bit small. For most university students it would probably be ok, but as I do a lot of word processing I thought perhaps the 15" would be more appropriate. (I take my laptop to lectures and seminars and type everything instead of handwriting.)
If I did get the 15" would I be paying for more than I need? Will I adjust to a smaller screen?- Asked by Ariane L from Aranda

Best AnswerGo with the 13 inch Macbook Pro. When you look at the diagonal screen measurements, it seems like a big difference, but it's really not. The 15 inch is only .88 inches (2.2cm) taller than the 13 inch screen, and height is really what matters when reading documents.
You'd be paying $600 for an extra .88 inches of screen height. Don't waste your money :)- Answered by Peter A from South Portland

MacBook Pro 13 vs MacBook Pro 15 for high school
I am looking to buy a Mac for high school and I'm stuck between the higher end 13 inch or the baseline 15 inch. Price is not an issue, I'm just concerned the screen real estate will be too small for light video/photo editing but the 15 inch will be too heavy to carry around. Another thing I'm concerned about is the screen resolution on the 13 inch won't be good. I listen to music a lot while I'm working on the computer so I would also appreciate a machine with good speakers. I would love to get the retina display Mac because of its weight but that is too much money since I need all the hard drive storage I can get.
Your help is greatly appreciated!- Asked by Anthony A from Ronkonkoma

Best Answerif your going to do light video and photo editing the 15 inch is for you as it will optimise viewing i myself own two macbook pro's a higher end 13inch and a higher inch 15 inch with retina display.
i also use my macbook for photo editing but i mainly use my 15inch for those kind of purposes
when i travel for work purposes i would take my 13 inch as its easily transportable and i can do all my work on the plane and off the plane I'm not saying the 15 inch isn't transportable I'm just saying i wouldn't really take my macbook with retina display on planes or anything like that as it could get damaged easily- Answered by Suraj L from Leicester

Will the macbook pro13" with i7 CPU be sufficient? Or will digital painting/illustration require a dedicated graphics card? And if so, will the retina 15" model be the better choice?

Best Answer"Retina" as trademarked by Apple, and is a process where apple doubles the amount of pixels where one pixel lies. An example is, the old macbook pro resolution was 1400x900, the new one in Retina is 2880x1800. Essentially they split the pixel into 4 squares, and they do all sorts of other technical stuff to make it all clear.
I suggest you only go with the Retina MacBook Pro if you're in Video, Sound Editing/Producing or Graphic Design, I've heard Web Designers get a bit frustrated at times, but Adobe will soon resolve this with an update in Photoshop. I think the graphics may still seem blurry for now.
I personally ordered one, for the purposes of design, and more.
In the end the decision is yours.- Answered by Louis L from Toronto

Best AnswerThe MacBook air is the best portability wise, but lacks an optical drive which is needed for using cd's and dvd's. This can be solved ny purchasing an external optical drive from Apple for about $80. The other issue with the Air is its limited (affordable) storage. Upgrading its flash memory is freaking expensive whereas with a Pro you get 500gb standard. If she doesn't have a big media library (movies and music) then it - shouldn't - be a problem, bit with a Pro it - won't - be a problem. Also is the compiter will be used to do any kind of video editing or gaming go with a pro, preferrably a 15 inch model.

What Mac laptop should I use for animation? 13 inch macbook pro, or 13 inch air with same upgrades?
I need a laptop that can render frame rates without lag and with exceptional quality to multitasking.
- Asked by Michael C from Ada

Best AnswerFor this answer I will assume your animation software is primarily CPU-intensive; animation programs like 3DS Max 2013 do not use the computer's graphics card to speed up the rendering process, although some of its plugins do.
To your question, the MacBook Air uses processors that specialize in power efficiency (so, working longer on a single battery charge) whereas the MacBook Pro line uses regular notebook processors that are faster but that use more power. A MacBook Pro with an Intel Core i7 processor, say, will therefore be faster than a MacBook Air with a Core i7 and should run animation programs faster.- Answered by Fabian M from Moscow

Would you recommend a Mac Mini for my 1st MAC?
I use a PC for work, but I'm wanting to purchase my 1st MAC for personal use. I have an Ipad and planning on getting an Iphone, so mobility isn't a factor. I've been looking at the MBA, but thought the Mini might be a better option.
My thought is I could hook it up via HDMI to an Onkyo receiver that's connected to a SHARP HDTV and use a wireless monitor/mouse. That way I could stream videos from the internet, listen to ITunes, and surf the net while seeing/hearing everything on a big screen tv with surround sound. Is this possible and a good option for my 1st MAC?- Asked by Darla Q from Mesa

Best AnswerIt sounds as if you thought this through well. About all you're missing in your proposed setup is a keyboard (and possibly a separate Superdrive) But if your goal is to save some money, a Mac Mini is often the ideal solution, and it's cool that it takes up so little room, is so portable should you need to bring it into an Apple Store for help at the Genius Bar, etc. And since you haven't got a large investment into a built-in monitor (such as I have in my iMac), it will be a lot less painful if you feel like buying a newer version some day. I have a friend with a Mac Mini, and she loves it.
