Connecting Apple Tv to older TVs
I want to connect my older TV to Apple TV. My old TV is 1080i and Apple TV is 1080p. I know that there is an adapter to convert from 1080p to 1080i. I am wondering about cost and and how will this affect picture quality. Also where to purchase this adapter. The apple TV resolution does not offer 1080i in the setting selection.

Does Apple TV support closed captioning?
As a deaf viewer, closed captioning is mandatory for enabling a viable viewing experience. I recently purchased a Roku2 device, but found the subtitles in Netflix very difficult to read (yellow text without a proper contrast background). I want to understand if that's an issue with Apple TV as well.

Can you use your TV as a mirrored monitor for a computer running a Microsoft OS by using Apple TV?
I was wondering if we could view our computer's screen on the TV using Apple TV or if that was going to be a problem. I own an iMac and was pretty sure with some sort of app I could get mirroring going on the TV, but I wasn't sure if that would be possible if my brother wanted to use his computer which is running Windows 7. We are specifically interested in being able to use the TV monitor for presentation purposes. The ability to use the Apple TV to present whatever was on the computer screen would be a major selling feature for me.

If you are running a suitable version of OS X and a compatible Mac then you can mirror your screen to the Apple TV by clicking the Airplay icon in the menu bar. More information is available by visiting the Apple web site and typing the following into the search bar: HT5404
If you are running Windows via Boot Camp and wish to mirror the screen to an Apple TV then this is not officially supported. You can however mirror your Windows session to an Apple TV if you are running Windows via VMWare Fusion or Parallels.- Answered by Chris L

Answer
Directly to the TV. Unless you have an AV-Receiver which handles all your audio instead of the TV speakers, in which case you would connect the AppleTV to the receiver.

Can I AirPlay Youtube videos from my iPhone 4S to Apple TV without turning on mirroring functionality?
When I touch the AirPlay icon while I watch Youtube videos from my iPhone 4S only the sound transmitted to the TV through Apple TV. I would like to know how the video can also be transmitted to the TV without turning on the full mirroring functionality from iPhone 4S to Apple TV.

Thanks for the answer. I actually should have asked watching Youtube videos when they are played with the new Youtube application (then one downloaded after iOS 6 erased the original Youtube application).
Because, I was able to Airplay the Youtube videos when I play them through Safari (open Safari application, go to Youtube.com, play any video). However, I was not when I used Youtube's own application for iPhone.
That would be great if you could help with this additional information.

I intend to plug the HDMI out from Apple TV into my TV and the optical out from the Apple TV device into av receiver. can I then AirPlay music from ipod through the Av receiver without the need for the TV to be on?

You can now with the iOS 5.2 update for Apple TV. Apple (kind of secretly) built Bluetooth into the 2nd and 3rd generation Apple TVs, but didn't activate it initially. As they did with the 2nd generation Apple TV, they waited to activate Bluetooth with a software update. Now you can finally use a Bluetooth keyboard with Apple TV. A lot of Apple TV users like myself have been waiting for this update.
