Need a router(ASAP), need(want) a backup drive but scared that TC won't last long (everyone seems to have had a bad experience). Buy TC or don't buy?
Pros:
1. I have a xbox 360 that I will be streaming movies to (wirelessly), a wireless printer, an iMac (that I will use to download/stream large files), iPhone and iPad plus a netbook. TC should be able to easily handle the load (or so I hear).
Cons: (I may be wrong...pls correct me if I'm)
1. I hear that the product has an average life expectancy of about 18 months. So if I decide to use this as a backup drive, I'm screwed in 18 months.
2. The TC drive cannot be slipt/partitioned to be used as both an external hard-drive and a backup drive. So if I decide to put my music, photos, etc on it (so I can share my media on the network or access it w/out having my iMac to be constantly on), I cannot backup my harddrive to it.
3. Cost. Is it worth it? I may be able to buy a router and an external harddrive that combined, may provide what I need.
Random:
1. Should I instead, buy a router and an external harddrive that I can partition?

I use a Retina Macbook Pro which obviously doesn't have an ethernet port. Can the TC work wirelessly without the need of the TC being hard wired?
I have a few quick questions regarding the Time Capsule.
I'm interested in getting the 2TB version to backup my rMBP, an iMac and 2 external usb hard drives.
I'm assuming that back up works wirelessly for each device, once setup using the Airport Utility? There is no need to hardwire each Mac to setup and continue to use Time Machine on the TC?
I won't need to buy a Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter for my rMBP in order to use the Time Capsule on this machine?
The TC doesn't (and can't) replace my main router?

Does TC work like Airport Express?
Meaning that:
1> When setup in Bridge Mode it connects wirelessly to my current WAP (Wireless Access Point), and will it also be a WiFi repeater?
2 > The Ethernet Ports work as a switch so when other devices are plugged in, they too will wirelessly connect to my home network?
3> The USB Port can be used to connect as a network printer (with Bonjour)?
4> And by doing all of the above it can hopefully still be used by my MAC's to do wireless Time Machine backups?- Asked by Jerry H from Lake Mary

Consolidating media on TC...
I've been through a lot of the Q's on this product's Q&A thread but have one of my own:
- Currently, my iTunes Media Library is (on the most part) on my old Sony Vaio, with some larger files (mainly my TV show series) on a couple of external HDDs - I have a new Macbook that I don't want to ram with media..
My question is, how easy is it going to be to consolidate my entire iTunes media library on the TC so it can permanently be accessed from either my Macbook, Apple TV or iPhone etc... what steps would I have to go through to achieve this centrally stored media utopia?! (can I plug the HDD's via USB in to the TC and use my Mac to 'drag files' from the HDD's on to the TC?) - ultimately I want the files on the TC and the HDD'a put to pasture...
Equally.. with my library then on TC - if I buy an album on my iPhone or a film on my Mac... how do I 'sync' it over to the TC without messing about? (I don't want dupe files - one Time Machine backup version and one that I've manually 'copied' over to the TC iTunes Library...
I'm hoping all this will 'just work' :-S- Asked by Ryan W

If the hard drive fails, will I still be able to use TC as a router?
I was gonna buy an extreme base station, but I found a 500GB time capsule on sale for the same price...so naturally I would rather buy the TC. I know since its the first generation TC, I'm probably only gonna get about 8-14 months use out of it. I'm ok with that so long as I can still use it as a base station.....wifi, wireless printing, etc....
I don't see any reason why it wouldn't, I just wanna make sure before I purchase it. Thanks- Asked by Jason B from Tucson

With TC as a wireless network server through TM, can you access the server remotely? i.e. while travelling with laptop? or from comp at work?
I am interested in using the TC as a wireless network server. If my home laptop is connected to the server, can I connect if I travel across the country? Also, can i connect my work computer to the same network?

How easy is it to migrate from a 1st gen Time Capsule to the latest?
I have a first gen Time Capsule, and I'm thinking of buying the latest model, but how do you go about transferring the settings from one TC to another? I'm using the TC as a wireless router as well, so all the wireless settings would need to be migrated, including security settings, MAC addresses, etc.
Is there an automated way to do this, or will I need to manually set up the new Time Capsule, by taking note of all the original TC's settings and putting them into the new one? I can't find much out there on this topic on the web. I'm hoping it will all be automated but would like to know how this would work, from anyone who might have done this themselves...

Does TC need to serve as the main base in an extended network in order to utilize TM backup? I would like to add an old refurb TC as an extender.
I have a new AE which works great. I have the opportunity to buy an old TC, but I do not want to use it as my primary base station because it lacks some of the features of my new AE. I would like to use the old TC as a wireless network extender. However, I would like to know if the TC/TM capabilities are functional if the TC is serving as an extender instead of as the primary station.

I want to buy Time Capsule for my iMac, but i am worried that the wireless router in TIme Capsule will interfere with the wireless router in the AT&T
I want to buy Time Capsule for my iMac, but i am worried that the wireless router in TIme Capsule will interfere with the wireless router in the AT&T 2wire. The AT&T 2wire is a single unit that contains both modem and a router. I was wondering if anyone has any experience using these 2 devices and if they are compatible. In particular, Is there a way of disabling or by passing the router in the AT&T 2wire?

Does TC slow the computer down
I was keen on buying the Time Capsule until I read that it slowed the computer down while it is running. Is this True?
Is there a way round this, like only turning on the time capsule only when I want it to perform a back up?- Asked by Mark R

iPad tc iTunes
I have the iPad 2, and I have a tight budget. I don't really want to buy a Mac because I have my iPad. Can I sync my iTunes content from the time capsule to my iPad, like I can on iTunes on a mac or pc? If so, what is the process?

I've just bought a 1TB TC and now need to connect it to the internet. I'm happy to buy an ADSL/Ethernet modem, but which one?
Although I have a Belkin wireless router & modem, I don't think I can switch off the wireless bit, so rather than have hassle I want to replace the router with a ADLS/Ethernet modem and use the TC as the wireless router. However I know nothing about modems. To be honest I'm after something that aesthetically fits in with the apple hardware and I had a look at the Netgear DM111P but it didn't have great reviews. Anyone have any other ideas?
