Do SDHC and SDXC cards work on the SD Card slot on the MacBook Air 13"?
Are all sizes from 2 GB to 64GB and all classes from 4 to 10 are recognized and work perfectly?

Cards that conform to the SD 1.x, 2.x, and 3.x standards should work. The SD card slot can use cards that are Standard SD (Secure Digital) 4 MB to 2 GB, SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) 4 GB to 32 GB, and SDXC (Secure Digital Extended Capacity) 4G B to 2 TB. MMC can also be used in this slot. MiniSD, MicroSD, and higher density formats like MiniSDHC and MicroSDHC can also work with the use of "passive" adapters that conform to the width and thickness specifications listed above.

I have the 2011 Air and it supports to 32 GB, class 10 SDHC cards. There is now an even newer model with thunderbolt; the apple store does not indicate SDXC, so I assume not. The newest Pro does support SDXC as per the Apple website.

The official answer is on Apple's support site under /kb/ht3553. It identifies specific models that do not support SDXC. The MacBook Air is not among the models listed. ("SDXC cards are not supported with Mac mini (Mid 2010) or iMac (Mid 2010) computers.")

I have only found that Apple promise is that it is the card slot for 'SD'. So it may not support 'SDHC' nor 'SDXC'.
The original SD specification offered storage only up to 2GBytes, so until we got more information we can not be expect more.
NB:
SDHC has a limit of 32Gbytes.
SDXC has a limit of 2000Gbytes, and make higher speed possible.
As I see it: We have ony the guarantee that hardware and operating system support up till 2Gbyte SD cards.- Answered by Per E
