Lets me control my iphone through my car electronics
I bought this to connect my 5 to my car (Benz) electronics so I could control my phone with the car's joystick. Plugged it in and I bought this to connect my 5 to my car (Benz) electronics so I could control my phone with the car's joystick. Plugged it in and it worked perfectly (to my surprise). My car has a 30 pin cable out and this 30 pin to Lightning fit perfectly and is long enough to the two cables together can connect to the phone while in the cup holder.
My only complaint is the price (thus the 4 star rating). Apple should include one of these with every device as we've all made investments in 30 pin cables over the past 7 years. Starting to lose my patience with Apple over this one. …

You buy t If you're like me you have at least 4 30 pin white cables; one at the office, one in each car and at least one at home. You buy this adapter because it works with your phone case Andy you carry it with you. White lightning connector cables are $19 and you can get white 30 pin cables for just a few bucks. You use this connector to use the 30 pin cables you have now. If you have to buy 4 lightning cables that's $80 and you still can't use the 30 pin docks without the adapter. This adapter while over priced at $39.99 it is still less than buying all new sync cables. This is a 5 star product but I only gave it 4 stars because of the price and Apple finding another way to make my wallet a little lighter. Apple you should have included one with the device, most of us would have bought at least one more. …

Works Great, Way over priced

Considering that they are changing this I would have thought they'd include one with the phone.
Enough griping, this cable works great and has even made it easier for me to talk on the phone while it is plugged into my car. The cable I had was a little too short to not have a constant tugging from the coiled cord. Now with the extra 20cm I can talk comfortably. …

Manufacturing defect in some of these adapters!
After reading the mixed reviews (mostly negative), I decided to purchase the adapter in person at a local Apple store. The Sales After reading the mixed reviews (mostly negative), I decided to purchase the adapter in person at a local Apple store. The Sales Rep. assured me I was purchasing the correct product for my purpose (my Audi A5 media connector has a 30-pin plug and I needed a Lightening Adapter to connect my iPhone 5s). As soon as I left the store and got to my car, I attempted to use the adapter to connect my iPhone. Like others who have reviewed this product, I received a note on my phone's screen that stated "This accessory does not work with this device".
I immediately returned to the store and explained the problem to the Sales Rep. He suggested I exchange the adapter for another identical one and try to connect with the replacement. To my surprise (and pleasure) the replacement worked just fine. My iTune songs and Pandora played through my vehicle's Media connection perfectly.
Based on the mixed reviews and my personal experience, I can only assume some of these adapters have manufacturing defects. I hope that someone from Apple Engineering reads this review and addresses this quality control issue. …

Avoid this product as it does not work.
I have an Alesis IO dock for recording music. This unit worked fine with my iPad 3 thanks to the good old 30 pin connector. When I I have an Alesis IO dock for recording music. This unit worked fine with my iPad 3 thanks to the good old 30 pin connector. When I 'upgraded' to the iPad air, I did my homework, making sure I would still be able to use my Alesis dock. I could......if I used an official Apple 30 pin to lightning cable. Not a cheaper 3rd party cable because these don't allow digital audio to pass through. I paid my £35 for the privilege of digital audio pass through and guess what? It does not work! No charging, no sync, and no audio!!!
Just to check, I connected this wonder cable to my DAB alarm clock, attached my iPad air and....intermittent charging and NO audio.
I now have to spend time and money to go back to the Apple store, try and get a refund, and then sell my perfectly good Alesis IO dock to one of those lucky people with an iPad 3 or older. Many thanks Apple. …
