I bought a new MacBook last week and got the VGA adapter so I could use it with my TV as I did my old PowerBook G4 (via the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter). The new adapter worked fine when I connected it to an overhead projector, but it doesn't seem to send a readable signal to my Samsung LN40A650 television.

I tried booting in to Windows via Boot Camp and got the same result.

I guess I'll have to try the DVI adapter with a converter from DVI to HDMI to use this with my TV. A Mini DisplayPort to HDMI (or even regular DisplayPort, which can be directly converted without using audio) would be ideal, but there doesn't seem to be any sign of that.

I have checked and it is not a TV problem, so certainly something hardware or driver related. Also $29.99 for a video dongle seems steep to me.

Screwed the cable to the adaptor, plugged the cable into the projector, turned on the projector, plugged the cable into the Mac (2010 MacBook Pro). Instant recognition. Set display for mirroring, connected the audio socket to my Pure Avanti radio.

Bingo! All worked first time. Presentation successful. Congregation wowed by a 10 minute film show.
