AnswerFirst, upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard. You can purchase this at some stores, but only if they still have supply. They will not have it on display and you have to specifically ask for it. You can also order it online directly from Apple:
store.apple.com /us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Once you have 10.6 installed, you can update to 10.6.8 and use the Apple Mac Store to upgrade to 10.7 Lion because the MacBook4,1 and MacBook4,2 do not support 10.8 Mountain Lion. However, you might need to call Apple Care in order to purchase this over the phone, as they no longer list 10.7 Lion in their app store.- Answered by Miles R from Lakewood

will appleworks work on a macbook air?
I couldn't find an answer to this question. If I upgrade my Mac G5 to a Macbook pro or air, will the appleworks be able to work on the new computer? If not, is there a program on the new computer that will at least allow the appleworks documents to open? What should I do to not lose those documents?

Best AnswerNo, but it is a great idea. What will happen if something goes wrong during the install, like a power failure? How many days or weeks will it take you to replace your data? Buy an external hard drive, and open "time machine" on the mac. Simple.

Best AnswerNot directly.
You'll first have to update from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8 in order to have the App Store feature. It's the only way to download 10.8 Mountain Lion.
Next, you need to make sure your system supports the minimum requirements. Look at this document for default (remove the spaces): http: //www. apple. com/ osx/ specs/- Answered by Bernard D from Rosemere

Macbook Pro 2012 enough to handle Modo, Photoshop, and zbrush?
Hi I was wondering can the Macbook Pro 2012 with upgraded 16gb rams with the High-res glossy upgrade enough to handle Modo/Maya, Photoshop, and Zbrush. This is the 2.3ghz with the 512mb video card. I'm planning on using this for College as i'm an Art major and I need a laptop that can Handle all three of those software and maybe even other 3D rendering programs. This Laptop is design as a workstation and not for gaming. So I was wondering with the spec I have will it be enough. Please don't get all technical on me as i'm new to Macs. Also this wont be doing any Video Editing at all and i might upgrade the main HDD into a SSD in the future. Thanks in advance and i'm simply buying a Mac so that i can use both Mac and PC in my field. I have a powerful PC desktop at home.

Best AnswerI currently have the use of both retina MacBook's. I was given the 15 by my company and the 13 came up on Groupon at a bargain price that I couldn't see past. My intention was to evaluate them and sell one or the other.
I use all the standard apps, and the most intensive stuff I use is Aperture 3 and PSE. I can honestly say the i5 in the 13 has handled everything I have thrown at it with ease with no noticeable lag in any environment.
For my uses the 13 is more than adequate, and it is a lot easier for carrying round. Until they put a retina screen in the 11' Air, this is about the best mobile computer available.
I've not even noticed any lag from only having 8gb ram in the 13 instead of the 16gb in the 15.
For you though, the gaming maybe an issue. I don't have any games to run and test for you. The hd4000 is far superior to the hd3000 I last used on a 13 Pro, and I imagine for most games on medium settings it would be fine. But if you want that top notch graphics performance, you're going to need a top notch (and dedicated) GPU.
So in short, the 13 is just about the perfect laptop for most things, but the 15 is an out and out desktop replacement.- Answered by Dean J from Nottingham

upgrade from tiger to mountain lion
On my MacBook Pro (2006), I recently lost OS X v10.6.8 snow leopard. I reinstall the original software and now have v10.4.8 Tiger. I been wanting to upgrade before this incident occured so before I purchase the software, can I go from Tiger straight to Lion or Mountain Lion?

Best AnswerNo. 10.7 and 10.8 are only available as downloads from the Apple App store. You must have 10.6.8 installed to access the App store and to upgrade. Apple sells a 10.6.8 DVD for $20. Buy that, install it, and then you can get the other upgrades.

Is an iMac G5 OSX 10.4.11 upgrade possible? (To 10.5 or 10.6 for example)
I have an iMac someone just gave me. I wanted to play around with it, but having a G5 processor in it has seemed to hinder any fun I could have with the thing. What I want to do initially is upgrade the OS. The information on the Internet is plentiful, but confusing; especially when older post say it can't be done (2002) but newer posts say you just have to call Apple (2012/2013). The main problem with this is either:
(A) I am having issues understanding the naming correlations with the OSX versions, or (B) I understand it and actually cannot upgrade this computer (or it will cost an arm and a leg to do so).
Here's the specs:
Hardware Overview:
Machine Name: iMac G5
Machine Model: PowerMac8,1
CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 512 MB
Bus Speed: 600 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 5.2.2f2
Is it possible to upgrade an iMac OSX 10.4.11 system to the next/newer OSX versions (like 10.5)? Is it costly? Will I get anything out of upgrading? Is this iMac with a G5 processor of any real use anymore (for instance, can I even get software for it)? Useful help would be appreciated. Thanks!- Asked by David M from Alton

AnswerYes, it is possible to upgrade your iMac G5 to Leopard. But to get a copy, you would have to source it from an online store, as Apple no longer produces copies of Leopard. Leopard was the last OS to run on PowerPC, and at this current point in time, the PowerPC architecture is considered to be obsolete. Whilst you can still find software with support for PowerPC, you would have a much better OS X experience on an Intel Machine.
