Features

The 85 Watt MagSafe Power Adaptor features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light up; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adaptor for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adaptor (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adaptor has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adaptor recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with 15- or 17-inch MacBook Pro.

Better, but still not good engineering

    • Written by from Bowie

I thought the magnetic connection would solve the problem with my previous Powerbook cord fraying. It didn't. 18 months, and I'm having to wiggle the cord around to get power. Of course, Apple will sell me another one for $79, when my problem is that $1 worth of wire broke.

Here's an idea: why not make the portion of the cable that attaches to the transformer detachable? Then when the connector frays, as it inevitably will, you could buy a $10 cord instead of paying $79 for the whole power adapter. But I guess that would eliminate a big source of profit for Apple.

Yes for Unibody, No for older MBP's

    • Written by from Whitby

Own Early 2008 MBP and Late 2009 MBP.
Works on the unibody, does not on my early 2008.
The port on the new MacBooks are smaller and more shallow, this charger reflects this change and will not make contact with older ports found on non-unibody.
Buyer beware, save yourself the hassle and find an 'I" MagSafe charger if you have a non-unibody.

Not compatible with older Macbook Pros

    • Written by from City of Westminster

The MagSafe connector on this power adaptor does not fit older models of MacBook Pro. This newer connector is marginally smaller and does not fit snugly into the socket on the computer. I bought two of these at the Apple Store, Regent Street which didn't work, and I was eventually advised to buy the older part number MA938B for my January 2008 MBP. Check before you buy! More

    Awful Charger

    • Written by from Mariaville

Mac chargers are very expensive and break so easily! The wires feeding into the computer clip are ultra prone to getting damaged. I have replaced my cord several times with several models and no matter how careful I am, it's life span is woefully disappointing. For the price, it should be far better. At the very least you should be able to replace only the section prone to damage and not the whole cord! More

my power cord frayed and burned

    • Written by from NIPIGON

I had a power cord from a 2004 mac book pro that still works. The current one to go with a 17 inch mac book pro has already frayed and burned with the same type of usage as the last older laptop. More
