Great sound for discreet speaker. Slight hum when not playing.

We've had these airport-novel-size speakers for a year now, and they certainly look better on our bookshelf than a John Grisham and more pleasant on the ears!

They are a smart discreet mono-colour design with one simple dial for volume/on/off against a full-face slightly rounded grill pierced with tiny holes. The front panel tilts back to make an impression that they are casting sound across the room; and in fact they are subtly directional. Their full rich sound fills a large space; excellent bass and bell-like treble for the full range of instruments of classical music, jazz and opera...not sure about rock or heavy metal as I never play any. Probably not as they are not their best at full volume as they are so small, so the max listenable setting is midway to 3/4 position on the dial.

We have recently teamed them up with wireless speaker adaptor. This makes playing music off Spotify off the iPad (version one) and other devices much easier and the speakers perform faultlessly through the connection. The only minus is that they issue a low hum when switched on but not playing, regardless of connection setup, however I cannot detect this hum during quiet passages, so perhaps it is an artefact of there being no input?

    Otherwise, a 5 star product.

Great Speakers for who needs it

I just bought them right now, I feel like the treble is not that great, the sound is a little muffled. Base is ok, but the imitated surround sounds did pull it off very well. And heres a great news, I was told that you cant turn them off completely cause they had no off switch, and its true I looked everywhere online, and not a picture nor any google link showed up that has it, but for some reason, mines do! I guess they upgraded the new ones and put a REAL off switch when you turn it all the way down, you hear and feel a click, and its off for GOOD! Anyways they look nice and stylish, Great speakers for a regular user!

Great for a 2.0 speaker system

I'm not an audiophile but I disagreed with so many of the negative reviews that I read about these speakers that I felt obligated to provide my two cents.

For a 2.0 speaker with no subwoofer and for the price these are great speakers. Similar to a lot of speakers positioning is everything. I have them about 4 inches away from either side of my 27" iMac and angled so that each speaker is facing one of my ears. The difference when these are positioned right is huge! They're not an elite speaker system but for $99 dollars you're not paying for an elite speaker system. For the money they're great.

    Pros:
    Clear sound
Highs and Mids come through clearly
For the price and no subwoofer they can't be beat

    Cons:
Lows can get overwhelmed at high volumes, but they're good at all but the highest levels.

Good Speakers, Creative T20's Better Though.

PRODUCT: Small packaging, not too small, not too big of speakers, perfect in size for a small desk or kitchen. Very clean, sleek design compared to the Creative T20 Series II Speakers. Right speaker in the front has a volume knob and a 3.5mm headphone jack. In the rear of the right speaker, power input, 4 RCA (red & white) inputs and input for the left speaker.

SOUND: Very clean, nice sound overall. They lack some crispness in the mid and lows. They have a very nice sound for the size of the speakers, nothing amazing, nothing horrible. They are definitely worth the $60-$80 range. You are paying some extra money for the "Bose" name, more so than a quality product. In every aspect however, the Creative T20 Series II Speakers beat the Bose. For the same money I would recommend the Creative T20 Series II Speakers over the Bose, but keep in the mind the Bose still sound very nice for the size and price. If you're stuck on getting the Bose and aren't looking for an "god like" speaker you wont' be disappointed, but I would definitely recommend the Creative T20 Series II Speakers over them.

I have many sets of speakers(pro media 2.1, and z-906) but i needed a smaller, more portable, space saving set with good sound reproduction. These do it perfectly, and they are quite loud. The sound is much clearer than any logitech set I've heard as well, which is impressive considering it only contains one driver. They sound better the louder you play them, basically no distortion at all.

Bose is an ok brand and these speakers do not disappoint. You get deep bass and a good mid-range. The highs are lacking but that normal for speakers of this limited scope. The main problem I have is that they pick up all sorts of EM interference: i.e. cell phones, electric generators...etc. This comes out as either a low volume hum or a short sequence of garbled beeps and boops in the case of cell phone interference. Other than that these speakers are priced well for what they can do. I've had them running for 3 years now.

I like the speakers the way I that the treble and bass is balanced and the bass is not over powered like my altec Lansing and not lacking the bass either. The only reason I took a star off cuz its almost same as series one(i had it for 2 years and changed to the latest). The bottom line is: these speakers are awsome

There speakers are great for the price.

Solid sound, good bass, clear treble and loud.

Good for movies and games. There also great for rock style music. For more classical music and jazz or just more clarity, consider the companion 20 or mm 1.

    Hope this helped!!!

Great sturdy speakers if you don't have space for a subwoofer system.

Sound is not as full as with a subwoofer system but not bad. But as I said if work space is limited then you can't go wrong with Bose.

A great addition with my JBL Creature I bass

My creature I's tweeters were messed up, they are over 5 years old and basically disintegrated. I wired these new speakers (Bose) with the Creature bass, and OMG. I realized the bass on the Bose doesn't go very deep, but mids and highs are beautiful. Thankfully for my Creature bass I'm able to rock my room and still have the comfort of clarity!

I've got these and also the Bose MusicMonitors (3 x the price). While I'd be lying to say they're just as good as the pricier model, I think they are very good. I'm actually on this site buying another set of the companion 2's for another imac that could do with some speakers. I reckon that for the price its hard NOT to buy a pair.

    Very Good Desktop Speakers

    • Written by from Whangarei

These Bose speakers are well made and durable. The performance is very good for their small size. I've used them with a MacBook Pro and taken them to parties with my iPod.
They have an easy to use Volume control and front headphone jack.

They work well as desktop speakers, and can also fill an average sized room with good, clear sound at a reasonable volume. Don't be put off by the absence of technical info in the product description.

I purchased these a little over a year ago for my dorm room. I was looking for speakers that would provide good sound quality but not disturb my neighbors with a subwoofer. I have found these speakers to be an excellent solution.

The sound quality of the Companion 2 Series II is very good considering its a 2.0 setup. The midrange and treble are good. Bass is obviously not particularly strong but is sufficient. Overall the speakers create a balanced sound, not tinny and not heavy on the bass.

The speakers are not great for filling a room for say a party, but for sitting at your computer and listening to music or watching a movie, these are great. Additionally, they have a sophisticated design- not crazy in design and definitely not ugly. They're good size and offer dual RCA inputs as well as a convenient headphone jack.

I gave a rating of 4 starts for two reasons. One, there is no off switch (sometimes the speakers have a faint buzz when not plugged into an audio source). Two, the price. While $100 is not that expensive, you could buy 2.1 system easily. I think $80 would be a more reasonable price.

That said, I do not regret my purchase at all. In all honesty, I am more satisfied with these than my $500 Bose Wave Radio. I would highly recommend these for someone who wants speakers that offer good sound quality but do not want them to be overly loud/boomy.

The best speakers i've ever had.. for only $150!

Everything is absolutely crisp. More than sufficient bass for such a small unit. The perfect companion to a Macbook for those who don't want to blow the budget!

I have to say, I am extremely pleased with these speakers. After doing some research, I looked online and saw these, and the price caught me off guard. For $89, these speakers are well worth it. I wanted my laptop speakers to sound better, and with these I have my own personal sound system. They give the clarity that Bose has and I've always been pleased with Bose products. All in all, definitely worth the buy. Go out and get these speakers!
