    Product that should be recalled

    • Written by from Chevy Chase

I regret to report, but I must concur with negative ratings for this product. I have iPhone 5s, and got the message that this cable is not a recognized product.

After reading all the negative reviews, I am surprised that this product is still available for sale and not recalled. Apple Geniuses were baffled at both stores I went to, and were unable to provide any explanation or fix for this problem. I have several older devices that I would like to use the adapter for, but at this time I guess it's not very likely.

Failed work with iPhone 5S 64GB from iPhone 4(s) adapter of car stereo

    • Written by from Rosmalen

My autumn/fall 2013 new car came with a iPhone 4(s) adapter so I bought this item so I would not have to take the iPhone case of to connect (instead of using the other lightning to 30 pin adapter). It does not seem to work... :-( (even though it should be compatible with the iPhone 5S, according to Apple website).

2013 Kia Soul and iphone 5s, this works perfect with the factory cable that came with the car! All music is controllable through the steering wheel controls. This cable also fits perfect with the Lifeproof case on!

Does not work with iPhone 5s

    • Written by from Portland

Tried multiple 30-pin cables and the adapter would always bring up the "cable not supported message" - this it totally bogus. Apple should not list the iPhone 5s as compatible with this adapter.

Half works on 2007 Audi with RNS-E iPod connection

    • Written by from London

Was hoping this would work where all other converters have failed.
Joy! - it did connect and I can play music through the Audi stereo, but unfortunately it won't charge.

    Fails, what good is this?

    • Written by from Palmer

I tried to plug into my iPhone 5 and get a messages box that this device is not supported. When I plugged into my iPad Air I get the same message. Attempting to use it all the same verifies that at least the message box works. The cable is useless. I have no idea what its good for but it is not any good for me and my devices.

Back to the store for a refund. Odd, I always had such confidence in Apple products working together

Not compatible with all 30 pin accessories

    • Written by from Valentine

I only discovered this after forking out my money.
I tried to use the adapter to connect a 30 pin VGA adaptor to my new iPad, only to be told on screen that this device is not supported.
How many other 30 pin adapters will I get the same message with.
Don't offer me something that cannot be delivered seamlessly and effectively.

not supported on my iPhone 5s

    • Written by from Sioux Falls

If you buy it, make sure you test it right away. I bought this from Apple online to make sure I got an original. I get an error that it is not supported on this device. I tried it after the return period (bought a month ago), so now I'm stuck with a $40 cable that doesn't work, and I still need an adapter.

Manufacturing defect in some of these adapters!

    • Written by from Harrison

After reading the mixed reviews (mostly negative), I decided to purchase the adapter in person at a local Apple store. The Sales Rep. assured me I was purchasing the correct product for my purpose (my Audi A5 media connector has a 30-pin plug and I needed a Lightening Adapter to connect my iPhone 5s). As soon as I left the store and got to my car, I attempted to use the adapter to connect my iPhone. Like others who have reviewed this product, I received a note on my phone's screen that stated "This accessory does not work with this device".
I immediately returned to the store and explained the problem to the Sales Rep. He suggested I exchange the adapter for another identical one and try to connect with the replacement. To my surprise (and pleasure) the replacement worked just fine. My iTune songs and Pandora played through my vehicle's Media connection perfectly.
Based on the mixed reviews and my personal experience, I can only assume some of these adapters have manufacturing defects. I hope that someone from Apple Engineering reads this review and addresses this quality control issue.

Avoid this product as it does not work.

    • Written by from Bedlington

I have an Alesis IO dock for recording music. This unit worked fine with my iPad 3 thanks to the good old 30 pin connector. When I 'upgraded' to the iPad air, I did my homework, making sure I would still be able to use my Alesis dock. I could......if I used an official Apple 30 pin to lightning cable. Not a cheaper 3rd party cable because these don't allow digital audio to pass through. I paid my £35 for the privilege of digital audio pass through and guess what? It does not work! No charging, no sync, and no audio!!!
Just to check, I connected this wonder cable to my DAB alarm clock, attached my iPad air and....intermittent charging and NO audio.

I now have to spend time and money to go back to the Apple store, try and get a refund, and then sell my perfectly good Alesis IO dock to one of those lucky people with an iPad 3 or older. Many thanks Apple.

If you get one that works it is fine!

    • Written by from Otaki

I have had 4 of these now! Two eventually worked but two did not but were replaced by Apple. If you get a working one, great!
Don't be concerned about getting one replaced. I suspect they had faulty batch.

5s - iOS7 'device not supported' - farcical does not cover it!

    • Written by from Edinburgh

Upgraded from 4s to 5s and needed an adaptor to connect an apple 30 pin apple connector for the car. Opted for this cable but upon plugging this into my phone (nothing even connected at 30 pin end) I got a 'device not supported' message. Took cable back and apple guy was baffled as same on his own 5s phone. Tried a few cables and same for each. Seems Apple have outdone themselves and rendered their own adaptor cable as useless. Could really do with this cable but it's not working with iOS7.

    Doesn't fit with a case - doesn't work either

    • Written by from Sheffield

For those of us who think if we buy the 'real thing' that we'll have no problems..THINK AGAIN, and be very cautious before buying this.

As you'll already know its ridiculously overpriced and extremely short.

The plug on the lightning end is designed to be just thick enough to cause you trouble when trying to plug it into your iPhone when said iPhone is snugly encased in the official Apple leather case.

If and when you do manage to get it in you're then immediately presented with a message saying it's not supported (this is before you even connect the other end to an accessory). Strangely enough the no cable adaptor works OK and does not display this message (although of course that too is cunningly 'designed in California' to not actually fit if you're using one of Apple's own cases).

Only advice I can give is buy a cheapo generic one - hey that might not work either but at least they only charge you a couple of quid (i.e. what these things are worth)

Apple - you're having a laugh - with the joke being made by your entirely disconnected design 'team' and very firmly at the expense of your customers. Pathetic really.

Minus a star for the price... Works with my 2011 Hyundai i30

    • Written by from New Barnet

I bought this so that I could hook up my iPhone 5 with my car stereo and have full functionality such as the stereo screen displaying song name, album name, etc; the steering wheel buttons working with volume and song selection and other treats. I am happy to say that this has worked flawlessly and I'm really pleased. This then allows me to connect the adapter to the car's bespoke MP3 wire and I'm a very happy man. Long journeys are now going to be a real treat.

Apple adapter not compatible with Apple phone?

    • Written by from Austin

Really? Bought this Lightning-to-30-pin cable adapter. Just inserted the lightning connector side, even before hooking the 30-in adapter side in, and immediately got a note on my phone screen saying, "This accessory does not work with this device." I couldn't use the stubby lightning-to-30-pin-adapter because--ready for this?--the Apple-made adapter wouldn't fit into the Apple-made case for my Apple-made phone. As I tried this more expensive accessory ($39. Yowza) and found it's not compatible. So, one doesn't fit, one isn't compatible. Sigh.

Very poor, error message on iPhone 5S

    • Written by from Cheshire

I should have read the reviews first. What a wasted 60 minute drive to the Apple store. I immediately get "this accessory not supported by this device" when plugging just the adapter in. I figured I could live with a nag screen if I could just get audio out, but that isn't happening either.

I specifically went out of my way to get an Apple certified adapter so I would not get any error messages instead of getting a cheap one from Amazon. This is what I get. What a waste of time, fuel and mileage. At least my other Apple stuff works well. Too bad this piece of junk doesn't. And $40 plus tax too!!! What a rip.

    Kia Sorento 2011 Compatible

    • Written by from Midlothian

Did some research for a product to convert the 30Pin to the 8pin. I have the new iPhone 5S and iPad with retina display. The iPhone has an otterbox case and I read from the reviews that the smaller converter would not fit or that the 8pin gets loose from the angle that the phone is at. I have a 2011 Kia Sorrento with the 30pin ipod cord that has a USB and Aux cable. I needed to make sure that this cord would be compatible with other non Apple products since Apple changed the algorithm in all their cords. I bought it yesterday and hooked it up. Works Great. Have not tried it on any Ipod Docks or any other locations except for my car. The price at $42 with tax is outrageous, but I couldn't handle listening to regular radio for 2 days straight when I drive at least 2-3 hours a day in the car.
