    MagSafe to MagSafe 2?

    • Written by from Pittsburgh

This converter is a must. Why Apple changed a perfectly working device to the MagSafe 2 is beyond me... the MagSafe 2 is terrible and pulls out twice as easy. And when you use this converter - it is even worse as far as accidental pull-out.

Better than the Magsafe 2 adaptor alone

    • Written by from LEANDER

If you read my review of the 85W Magsafe 2 adapter "Magnet not Strong Enough" and many others you will find that the native Magsafe 2 adaptor supplied with the MBP Retina Display is too weak to work with, it falls out constantly. This is the solution, use this with your older chargers or EVEN BUY A NEW 85W MAGSAFE 1 or 1.5 and USE THIS ADAPTOR instead of the magsafe 2 adaptor by itself. Unless your household is accident prone with children or wild pets, you will probably be happer this way, with a power adapter that doesn't fall out ever time you pickup your laptop or move. It is surprisingly strong where you won't loose it, and will still break away in moderate conditions, not all conditions (like if your laptop is at the edge of a slippery table and it is pulled at the right angle.) This is a the best solutions for adults that need to get work done and not worry about their adaptor falling out.

Best $10 I ever spent at the Apple Store

    • Written by from New Orleans

These converters are great. I don't have to trash my old adapters that I keep in my office, home, briefcase, etc. Best of all, I don't have to spend the money to buy new ones.

It's a hunk of magnetised aluminium - so it's very robust. The magnet is strong, so you can leave it attached to your power adapter without fear of losing it. It would be nice if you could use it both ways, but as it is you can only use it to convert a Magsafe power adapter for use with a Magsafe 2 laptop, but what it does do it does well.

Cost effective way to use old power supplies on new laptops

    • Written by from Hewitt

Sometimes when a hardware change breaks compatibility, you have to spend a lot of money on new gear or expensive adapters. At $10, this allows you to use older power supplies with newer laptops without the expense of spending $80 on a new power supply. And, it works well. I was afraid it would separate or come apart or be a fragile connection. But, it holds tightly to the old power supply plug and works seamlessly.

    works very well. magnetic attachment.

    • Written by from Keller

I use this with a 60W adapter and it works great. I keep adapter on my home charger, so I don't loose the little thing while I travel. It connects magnetically to both the power cord and computer, so it doesn't fall off. Only downside is when I unplug the power supply the adapter sometimes sticks to the laptop, so I have to pull it off.

It's as good as MacSafe 2 itself

    • Written by from San Jose

Let's be honest here: the old L-shaped MagSafe 1 connector was far superior, it had a very strong and reliable connection. The new MagSafe 2 gets disconnected much easier.

However, people who claim that this converter thing is loose simply don't factor in that the original power supply is exactly as loose. This converter is no worse than the new MagSafe 2 connector itself! So if you have a rMBP or MBA, then you have MagSafe 2, and nothing will change that. You either spend a lot of money buying a second power supply, or you spend $9.99 for this converter, and they're equally as good (or as bad).

Using the converter is pretty much the same as using the new factory power supply. Yes, it gets disconnected too easily, like the factory power supply. We may complain about MagSafe 2 itself, but this adapter is as good as it gets. I'm using it with my TB display, and it does the same job as the laptop's power supply.

If you want to give feedback to Apple, by all means complain about the new connector. But I'm giving feedback to other consumers here: this converter is a good purchase anyway, if it prevents you from buying a brand new full power supply.

    Works Perfectly

    • Written by from EXTON

The only regret I had after unboxing my new Macbook Air, was the realization that my "old" MagSafe power adapters would not work with it. I travel frequently, so rather than bundle up the MagSafe 2 cord and travel with it, I was planning to buy a new Magsafe 2 cord and keep it in my briefcase when I travel. Thank you apple for creating this handy little adapter to solve all my problems. Less than $10, and I received it from fedex less than 24 hours after I ordered it.

Life in the old adapter :)

    • Written by from London

Been using for a couple of days and have to say it works well for me .

Fits extremely well and strongly to the old magsafe and so pops off the laptop easily when any pressure is applied - as is the point of the magsafe connectors.

Some other reviewer seem to be commenting on theirs getting very hot , i'm not getting that - mine is ambient temperature after several hours use. It would be interesting to see if those reviewers are using an official charger or a 3rd party one. I've owned 3rd party chargers in the past that have got substantially hotter then the officials ones

Other are complaining that their laptops are slow to charge thru it - not noticing that at all.

Then their are reviewers complaining they have lost theirs because its too small. I'm sure thats annoying for them, and I will be annoyed if I lose mine at some stage but small things are easy to lose. Its hardly a product flaw.

if you have an old charger around that can be used with this rather than spending a small fortune on an official apple power brick then its a no brainer in my opinion.

In fact, I'm pleasantly surprised apple makes this rather than going for the bigger sale of a new power adapter.

mine works and does exactly as advertised

    • Written by from Lawrence

I was a bit hesitant to use this after reading all the negative reviews, however, mine worked fine right out of the box and continues to work. Granted, the negative reviews are saying they peter out at around 5 months, but I'm well over three months in to using my first one and it works just fine. Sometimes it needs a bit of wiggling to get the light to green, but away it goes. Perhaps it should be noted that I use this charger at my desk at work, so it doesn't get jostled around at all and is only used a few hours a day, a few days a week.

    • Written by from Manchester

It's sturdy, grips tightly (I can't remove it from my MagSafe cable without using two hands, so if I yank the cable from the MacBook the adapter stays safely on).

    I can't fault it.

I just upgraded my MacBook Pro and noticed they changed the power connection. Since I had 2 MagSafe cords already I thought I'd roll the dice.
There are quite a few negative reviews but I gotta say mine works perfectly. Maybe they fixed the problem.

    Great little thing!!!

    • Written by from Marsfield

So I had a spare charger from my old white-Macbook (mid-2007) days and I had paid about $99 for a genuine second MagSafe 60W charger then, years passed... and I now am using MacBook Air and I had a need for spare charger to juice-up my MBA while at home-office, buying another 45W charger did not make a whole lot of sense. Having read that I can use my old charger (no 60W doesn't charge any faster to 45W) I bought this little converter and it has done the magic for me. I got the product delivered in under 27 hours at door step and its been great.

    Highly recommended!!!

    No Problems, only solves them

    • Written by from Cincinnati

Does exactly what it's made for. I have used the adapter for three months with no problems. It does get slightly hot, but only slightly. Magnet is as strong as the Magsafe 2, but that wasn't as good as the original. It allows me to switch between two Mac Book Pros (2009 and 2014) with one power cable. Would like if they made an adapter that works from Magsafe2 to Magsafe. I would recommend.
