    The case doesn't fit

The case doesn't fit and the iPad can easily slip out of the cover.

unfortunately you have to buy this case sins the magnet inside the iPad looses its magnetism over time, thus making it unable to stand upright with the cover.

This doesn't change the fact that this cover isn't worthy of the apple logo and would never have made it to the market in the Jobs days.

Bought this cover at the Apple shop. Thought it must have been good because it was a licensed product and not cheap, but it seems to have stretched and my iPad literally falls out of it. It can hold the iPad up to watch movies either :( I feel I would have been better off buying a cheapie knock off, given that I'm having to replace it already.

I put this on my iPad 4 and was immediately dubious of how well it would work.

1/ The flap that opens, when folded behind, does not stay put. It flops around. A stronger magnet would be much appreciated. Also, some sort of tab or something to specifically hold on to while trying to open it would be nice.

2/ The iPad does not feel snug within the case and when I hold it, whichever two sides I'm holding on to pull away from the edge of the iPad, exposing its sides. Though I don't feel it will fall out it is annoying nonetheless.

3/ When folded into any of the stand configurations it does not have enough support for the iPad and tips over immediately.

I had high hopes for this product but will be returning it ASAP. It certainly does not live up to the Apple standards.

My I-pad 3 came with this cover and all it did was shut off the device when closed.. Was not strong enough to hold up the I-pad in a reading position . It tore at the first seem in less than 3 months. Would not recommend this product at all. Surprised that apple put its name on this product. They usually have better quality.

    Poor effort

    • Written by from Houston

I bought a case for my iPad 4 yesterday mainly for protection but also to use as a stand. As a protective cover this is fine and looks great. But it's not without its negatives...

The sharp edges are just ridiculous. Was this designed to be used with protective gloves or something. My iPad has gone from a joy to hole to a complete nightmare.

Also, as a stand it is just poor. When positioning the stand to be slightly tilted up for comfortable typing on a flat surface it keeps slipping down to an almost flat position. When positioned upright for media viewing etc even the slightest tap towards the top of the screen causes it to wobble around uncontrollably. I just don't have any faith that this wont send my ipad crashing to its doom one day.

For $59 I was expecting something of MUCH higher quality than this. To me this just looks like another apple cash grab with little thought going into the actual function of the product

The smart case is not worth the money

This is the biggest rip off yet from Apple. What a disgrace this smart cove sure needs to come with another case so that you can set up the iPad to work with it. Forget working on your iPad it does not stay up for nothing. All it is good for is to put the iPad in the sleep mode and protect it. This case is a waste of $49.00..What a RIP OFF... does not matter what cold you get.

Please DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Horrible: not engineered for the Mini

Within a day of purchasing my iPad mini slipped right off the magnetic strip and shattered the corners as I was walking thru my front door. When I initially attached the cover it felt flimsy and my concern is obviously now validated. Magnet is not nearly strong enough. This cover for the regular iPad looks to work much better however was clearly not engineered for the mini. Please do your self a favor and stay away from this for the mini. I am left feeling extremely frustrated with apple after being a loyal customer and believer In Apple for over 8 years!

Does not fit properly, feels cheaper than 3rd party cases.

The title of this review says it all. After the amazing design success of the original smart cover for ipad2, it shocks me that they would allow something as malformed as this product out on the shelves. Seriously, if you're trying to sell these smart cases, wouldn't it be smart for them to actually fit the body of the ipad snugly? I get the impression when I put it on that it is some 15.00 Belkin generic case. Seriously Apple, design fail.

I can't believe that the skill capabilities within Apple's design team have got this so wrong! You had it all, people went WOW when they saw the Smart Cover it was great!! So why didn't you turn it into the perfect cover. My advice to the concerning buyer- just wait, I'm sure the next one will be perfect .

I regret buying this thing. Annoying flaps, you can't really use it as a stand as it just has two positions, (portrait or landscape). And it's expensive for what it is...

The material used is very pleasant, but again, very limited as an iPad cover/stand.

There are much better 3rd party covers out there.

Apple should just do what they do best: hardware...

    Not very sturdy

I purchased this cover as I wanted something sleek and stylish and non bulky. Purchased in late May of 2012 (this year!). Have had to glue fabric to vinyl along the edges 3 times, and now the magnetic bar that holds the cover to the iPad itself has lost its pins so I can no longer use the cover. I am going to purchase some watch pins to try to fix it myself, but honestly, after only 3 months of use it should still be like new - not falling apart. I do not recommend this product for these reasons. I love the concept but the quality is horrid! Also, the self stand is very flimsy also. Would not leave it standing alone as it falls over unless holding on to it. Sad it isn't what I had hoped. Please don't waste your money.

This product does not fit the iPad snuggly, the holes are not cut well contrary to some reviews I read and seen.

Because it has a soft hinge, the triangle support doesn't feel as sturdy as the regular smart cover. When folded back to hand hold like a note book, or note pad, it feels extremely uncomfortable since the cover moves around much more than the standard smart cover.

I have the smart cover for the iPad 2. And now I ordered a different product all together to replace this lacking example of a iPad case.
The edge of the case also feels cheap and causes it to be annoying to hold the iPad. I wish I can donate this case to someone who wants it, but I wouldn't do this to anyone, I'll just destroy it and throw it out so no one else has to suffer from this terrible case.

What I do like about it is the soft lining in the case. 1 star for suede/felt like lining.

Was this useful? Not as good as I hoped it to be.

How can Apple produce such a horrible product. It does not fit on the new iPad. It's loose and feels really cheap. I returned it the next day. For the price, you are better off with a third party case.

Very disappointed with this cover. Bought the Smart cover for my prior iPad and bought a "back" cover from another company that works with the Smart Cover. When I bought my new iPad I was very excited to see you were making a new cover that would take care of the front and back. I was very disappointed when I received it. It is very hard to fit on and the edges are very rough. It's also very "clunky" looking making the iPad seem bigger than it is. I just went ahead and bought the "smart" front again and reordered the back from the other company I mentioned prior. Now I'm very happy again. PLEASE think about a different design. This new product doesn't represent Apple well at all.

It's made badly-the ipad is not held snug; the does not work nearly as well as the smart cover. I just can't believe they released this as it is. It's a great design -- just a terrible execution.

    Shabby product

Looked at it in the Apple Store yesterday and immediately decided against it.
Poor quality, not up to Apple's standards. Not sleek or sexy by any means. The only upside was it looked like it protected the product well. However you can find 3rd party cases that protect the product just as well (if not better) that look and feel much, much better. I was just hoping for an Apple case that would do the same. Looks like it was created by some uninspired Windows/Android user.
Would Steve Jobs put this out there? I don't think so.
I have never found an Apple product that I dislike as much as I dislike this one. I really really hope we see a better, elegant, precise, polished, sleek, impassioned new Smart Case in the future.
Sir Jony Ive and his colleagues have some work to do.
