I really like this case. Fits great and protects the iPad well yet still maintains the slim profile.

I have bought various iPad cases over the last year and now wish I had not. This case is fits the iPad 2 very well, though it appears to be made for the new iPad, so there is a a very slight gap. Nevertheless, the case fits snugly enough. I saw someone using one of these whilst travelling from Jersey to France and asked him about it. I was impressed and immediately went online to buy my own from Apple. I have just bought my wife an iPad 2 (refurb) and intend to buy another of these cases for her. Yes, you do pay a bit more for quality!

I just bought this case a couple of days ago and thus far have been happy with it. It's nice having a simple one piece case which protects the iPad without adding a lot of bulk. Good for carrying an iPad in a back pack or other bag. I like the dark gray color and the texture for gripping the iPad. Unlike other reviews, I find the fit reasonable and have no trouble opening the magnetic lid (note: I have iPad gen 3). I have not yet tried to remove the case and put it back on since the iPad is very functional staying in the case at all times. The only drawback I have found thus far are the slightly "sharp" edges (similar to original iPad case from Apple) but I understand that part of the functionality of the edge is to add stiffness without requiring that the entire case be stiff.

Apple is constantly looking to improve the quality of their products. The Smart Case is the perfect place to begin! This thing cost $50....If the price was $25, I'd give it 4 stars. Does nothing other than hold and cover your iPad.

I bought the dark grey colored smart case and it very nice. The color looks really good and even if it gets some dirt or anything like that on it, it is barely noticeable and can be wiped off easily.
I was once holding my iPad with this case and suddenly it fell out of my hands and hit the tile floor screen faced. When I picked it up, there was not crack or anything on it. This is a really nice case and is worth the money! :)

love the case brand new. it fit the ipad well and snugly. however i removed it once and when i tried it again it had stretched to the point that the spine would allow the side of the ipad to come out of the case whenever the flap was folded back and i was holding it in my left hand portrait-wise it was in no danger of coming out but this was annoying as a case should fit better and retain its shape. after a bit of use the flap stared becoming crooked. do love the magnet but not happy overall.

This case is sturdy enough to protect against shock or scratching, but not overly bulky. The material of the case gives it a good grip, but surprisingly, doesn't get dirty easily or absorb dirt and other substances. The smart cover makes it convenient to stand up vertically or prop up horizontally. It does its job--it protects the iPad without adding to much bulk or heft. One thing to be careful of--the felt underside of the cover can get dirty easily, so be aware of the surface you set it on when the cover is open.

I bought this from Apple because I wanted something fitted by the people who made the device.

What I received was a big disappointment. The case edge rolls off the device where the cover folds back. It's a constant irritation to have to pop it back over the lip.

The other big issue is that the case was designed to fit previous model iPads, so it has the bigger hole for the 30-pin connector. Unfortunately, that hole is not aligned to the lightning connector properly, so when I plug the device in to charge it, the case slightly obstructs the connector, often causing the device not to charge.

For the price and being directly from Apple, I expected flawless. I didn't get that kind of product. Not by a long shot. Do not recommend.

The color wasn't my first choice, but after buying the light gray one and owning it for an hour I started to foresee how dirty and screwed up it'd get. However, this dark gray one is amazing and looks even better in person than in the pictures. Also, it's not going to get marked up as easilly or noticeably from normal wear and tear. The functionality is perfect, the strength and durability seem really good as well, and it's comfortable to hold in your hands. Also, I have found it very versatile, with tons of different ways to prop it up at different angles--at least more than the pictures describe. I have a 30-degree-or-so angle that I'm loving right now. All in all, I love everything about the case except for the price. But I can still see the amount of designing that went in to making this great product, so I can't get too mad (though it'd be better if made in USA). I have seen the others: my partner has a leather In-case case and it's nowhere near as stylish, comfortable to hold, or people friendly, if you ask me.

I like this case. It fits my iPad (3rd gen) snuggly and offers ample protection. The magnetic closure putting the iPad to sleep/wake works great. The cover looks fantastic (I got the dark gray). The Apple logo on the back is a nice touch. The case was "stiff" at first, making the stand aspect awkward, but that has worked out as I've used it. In full upright positiion, there is not a lot of slant to the position - which can make viewing difficult. There are several ways to fold the cover/stand though, for differing viewing angles. The only reason this doesn't get a "5" is because you can't rotate the iPad - so the only viewing orientation with the stand is landscape/horizontal. For $10 more dollars, I would get the case over the cover. I rate this a definite "buy".
