Fully compatible with older MacBook Pros

    • Written by from Cambridge

It works fine, and fits exactly the MagSafe power port on my late-2007 15-inch MacBook Pro, even though the computer was originally supplied with a "T" style MagSafe connector. Buy with confidence.

    Finally a great charger!

    • Written by from WASHINGTON

I had the old macbook pro (2009) that came with the old charger. I've never had problems with the charger at all other then if I were to use it on my lap then the charger would be disconnected from the computer. With this charger that is no longer the case.

I now have the new macbook pro and it came with the new charger and there isn't anything bad i can say about it so far. If you're looking for a charger that will work with the macbook and macbook pro this is the best choice. Somehow the charger can regulate down the amount of charge it's putting through to the computer so it's able to be used for both models. The overall look of this charger is pretty amazing. Before having a cheap looking white plug going into a all aluminum macbook looked stupid. With the new aluminum magsafe plug it looks a lot better when plugged in.

Overall i think this is a great upgrade for anyone looking for a new charger and for anyone who has had problems with the old model.

    Replacement power adaptor works perfectly

    • Written by from Hitchin

The original power adaptor for my 17inch MacBook Pro just died. I bought a new one from the Milton Keynes apple store. The old adaptor had the original T shaped Magsafe plug. The new one has the modern version. It fits perfectly, looks much more elegant and does the business.

Stop moaning & speak to Apple

    • Written by from Tarporley

I have had a MacBook Pro for 3 years. My MagSafe Power Adapter has just failed after being used every day. I took it into the Apple Store and asked them to test it and they confirmed it needed replacing so they gave me a new one! Why do so many Reviewers criticise products that by their very nature can go wrong sooner than they should, without telling Apple about the problem first. You talk about having to spend £60 repeatedly to replace these adapters. Firstly how well do you look after your equipment? Secondly why just buy another one and moan about having to do so without giving Apple the opportunity to put it right? I have never received anything but exceptional service from Apple. Yes things can go wrong but that is what the warranty and AppleCare is there for. Buy it and use it.
Also this new style adapter DOES fit an older MacBook Pro without any problems at all.

Not at a right angle like before, so much more practical. Matches the aluminium of the MacBook Pro - looks amazing!

    Much Improved

    • Written by from TONBRIDGE

I have been trial running this charger at work and home for two weeks now. I was a bit worried given some of the reviews here. However, I can say that so far I have been really impressed. The magnetic connection is much stronger and I have experienced less accidental 'pull outs' than before. No part of the charger heats up unlike the old one where the white 'box' used to get really hot. So far so good - hope it lasts!

This one is included with 2010 MacBookPro

    • Written by from Kirkland

I haven't had mine long enough to see if it is an improvement over the older 85W MagSafe Power Adapter, but I just ordered one of the older adapters because this one keeps popping out and causing my MBP to use battery when it is in my InCase hardshell case. Until InCase redesigns their case to accomodate the new adapter, people might want to be aware of this incompatibility.

When not in the case, the new adapter seems to be all it is advertised to be. I say "seems to be" because I haven't had it long enough to know if it will have a longer average lifespan than the older model. So far I see no reason not to give it five stars.

Most definitely IS compatible with 2008 MacBook Pro

    • Written by from St Helens

I saw the comment by someone claiming this is not compatible with the 2008 MacBook Pro and I was cautious. I have a 2.4GHz 2008 MBP, but this PSU works perfectly without problems. Also I prefer the new design where the cable no longer sticks out to the side.

Excellent, Solid Product That Does What it is Supposed to do

    • Written by from Cobble Hill

I have a pre-unibody macbook pro and after 3 years, the original power cord frayed and broke. I know why it did, too. I was constantly lifting and letting the main box up and down via the box to computer side cord. For those of you reviewing this product poorly because it is breaking, take a look at how you handle it. The proof is in the pudding and nothing stands up to abuse over time. I was a little confused about the reviews that said it wouldn't work on pre-unibody macbook pros but after a quick search on the web I found out it was simply a firmware issue and just a quick download and install had it up and running properly.

Also, for those of you who are wondering whether it will work to get your laptop up and running if completely out of battery power after your original cord broke, don't worry; it still provides the juice to get you going so you can install the firmware. I'm pretty sure the firmware just helps read the battery charge level because pre-firmware install the 'time remaining to charge' indicator just sat at -20.00 hrs and didn't move from there.

So don't worry about compatibility and all the other negative reviews; this product does exactly what it is supposed to do and contrary to seeming popular belief it is very well made.

    Very Nice

    • Written by from Belgrade

I purchassed the 85-watt version, even though I own a 2006 Core Duo MacBook. Adapter is very nice and feels very solid. It has no problems connecting securely to the power port on my laptop(Some reviewers complained about it not working with older MacBooks, but I have not had any problems so far.) Somewhere I read that it didn't come with the long power cord, but I found that it does come with both the standard direct plug-in and the extension cord. I would definitely buy again.

Better than my boxed magsafe adapter.

    • Written by from San Jose

I own a late 2008 MBP and this is a much better replacement or spare. With the new port adapter design it makes my MBP look better - holds in place better too! I highly recommend it.

    Powersafe Power Adapter backward compatible.

    • Written by from whittier, ca

My old power adapter failed and ceased providing power to my 2007 MacBook Pro. The new Powersafe Power Adapter works very well and looks great. I was worried after reading some of the cons, however I am pleased to report that the adapter is indeed backward compatible.

    Better Than Expected

    • Written by from Waterville

I am very satisfied with this new model that came with my i5 Macbook Pro. The new cord is noticeably harder than the old ones and the new plug design is very convenient when using the laptop on the sofa.

    -Harder Cord
-No more green light turning off by itself (Present in all 3 of the old ones I have)
-No more "hiss" sound from the adapter (Present in all 3 of the old ones I have)

-Stop charging extra for the extension cord.

First problem with a power adapter

    • Written by from Anchorage

I have been buying these power adapters for years. I usually have three: one at work, one at home, one in the computer bag. I still have some with the concentric plug from previous generations. My wife and my son have MacBookPros, and they use the same adapters. And we have no problems.

So far, I have lost one adapter (left it behind, my fault), and today my first one actually died. It was the home unit, so not subject to a lot of twiddling, just plug in and plug out. It was an older unit with a MagSafe to MagSafe 2 adapter, so I must have got about 5-6 years out of it. I have had no issues with fraying, internal breaks and the like that others complain about. I suspect that these represent a small percentage of the total number of adapters out there, so one's chances of getting a dud are fairly low. That doesn't make it the least bit easier for those who get a poor unit, but it may put the numbers into perspective, and so the chances of getting a flaky adapter.

I'm going to buy another one, so I'll see if the latest ones are OK. I'll let you know if it dies!

Replacement 85w power adapter for 17" MacBook Pro (early 2008)

    • Written by from Epping

Having read the reviews below as to whether this power adapter was compatible with my Mac I was a little confused. My original power adapter has a "T" style connector and this one has the new style "inline" connector. To verify that it was the correct one I contacted Apple support via their chat support and they confirmed that it was. It arrived this morning and it fits the port and works perfectly. I agree with the post below that reads "buy with confidence" Hopefully this post will save others from having to spend lots of time checking it out.

Attention to detail and quality of components equals joy!

    • Written by from San Remo

I am struggling to comprehend the negative reviews posted for this product because as a Mac user since 2001 I have owned at least seven Apple Note Books and have never had a failed charger. I have had two friends who have had failed chargers, out of approximately one hundred friends and students using Apple Mac NoteBooks over eleven years.

Apparently there were a few people experiencing wires coming loose from rough handling at one stage but none of my friends or students did.

CAUTION: Interestingly, I bought a Non-Genuine charger on eBay for a friend for about one third of the Apple price but this unit failed miserably in a short time, it actually caught alight and almost burned her house down! That unit was not up to the Apple standard of beautiful fit and finish, the plastic casing was brittle and poorly finished and the cable was inflexible and annoyingly had a mind of its own, there really was no comparison.

My Girlfriend's 13 inch MacBook charger finally blew during a recent lightning storm, it has worked around the clock every day since 2006, and to it's credit, it has been the spare charger I use when staying at her place to power my 17 inch MacBook Pro, so it even survived slaving away for years powering a much larger device than it was designed to cope with. I am buying the 85w model to charge both devices.

I can only commend Apple for sticking to their guns, refusing to drop the quality of these chargers to race other makers to the bottom of the heap. I am spending my eighty-nine dollars with full confidence in the product and a smile on my face.

Oh, I nearly forgot to mention the number of times, HUNDREDS, that I haven't tripped over the power cord or hurled the computer to the floor thanks to the brilliant Apple innovation called MagSafe!
