I use it everyday to read books nd watch TV episodes. It was well worth the price. It does not working my iPad, but it works well with my iPad2. It's small, portable(All Apple products are) and I plan on buying another real soon.

It does what it says on the tin

I need a VGA adaptor that allows me to connect to my customers Projectors and LCD Screens using Apple Keynote. This adaptor does this perfectly.

The Adaptor has a short cable, which is ideal for when your going light and will automatically engages the external screen when plugged in. A little side note, when using Keynote with this adaptor it goes into presentation mode, which allows you to pre-view the next slide. This is a fantastic feature!

Now if I wanted to watch a movie in high def with sound, then I would purchase the HDMI Adaptor. As I can't guarantee that my customers will have a HDMI cable connection, then the VGA Adaptor was the best choice for me. End of story. It does what it says on the tin.

    does nothing with iPhone 4

Despite the claims that this cable is compatible with iPhone 4 it apparently is not. I got this to use in my class to show students various bird-related apps and compare them to online resources and traditional field guides. Nothing, not just no mirroring, but no anything, photos, slideshows, nothing. C'mon Apple, you want schools to adopt etextbooks on iPads, time to make the iPhones truely compatible with LCD projectors. It can't be that difficult.

It works perfectly with my iPad 2. I can mirror whatever I am doing with my iPad to the screen. Its a great experience to use it with noteshelf. Together they make a group discussion much more productive.

I own both iPad2 and iPhone4s and thought this adapter is going to be very convenience for me. But it made me ran like crazy when it doesn't support on the Panasonic Projector on my presentation day. There were "blinks" (a lot of them, in fact) when I connected via this adapter. However, two stars I gave is for working on the Mitsubishi projector on the other rooms, two stars is about right for this reason.

Does not do what it says on the label!

This lead will only work with videos and photos from your device to the TV does not replicate any of my apps to the screen. Bought it because I got a number generator app which I wanted to show on a large screen but just shows a blank screen so now it's back to the drawing board till someone can come up with a way to do what I see as a pretty simple task. There MUST me some way!! Come on you apple techs!!! ;)

Read the specs first the adapter is great

There are loads of negative reviews based on misunderstandings and lack of knowledge. First the adapter is designed to transfer a signal, so I can watch BBC Iplayer in full HD with surround sound, no problem. I can also watch a photo slide show and pages from the Internet. For full iTunes functionality I have apple tv. This has the convenience of wireless connectivity and can watch iTunes movies and surf the web. These are two functions which require two devices. I have both and can do anything I want, whatever is convenient. I have an iPod touch, but the adopter does not support sound as stated on the apple web. I would recommend the info available on the site as I have had no issues after reading the described functionality of the adapter and the apple tv.

Mirrors the iPad 2 perfectly via VGA

Works as described and mirrors your iPad 2 to a connected display using a VGA connector. Plug this adapter into the iPad, and attach to the male end of a VGA cable connected to your display and you see the iPad 2 user interface.

    *Product Used: iPad 2 v5.0.1
    - You will need a VGA cable to connect between this adapter and your display.
    - You see the entire iPad user interface and the content of each app as you open it.
    - I tried a bunch of apps and games and all were mirrored on the display without issues.
    - iBooks worked perfectly for displaying presentations. Just open an email with the PDF presentation, select the attachment and select Open in iBooks, and it adds to your library. Open here and flip through the presentation.
    - As you might expect, the adapter does not allow copy protected material to display:
[x] HBO Go - Is blocked and will not display when connected
[x] Cox TV Connect - Will run and you can see the show listings, but the display area will not show any content when connected
[x] Downloaded Videos from the apple store would not display

    *Product Used: iPhone4 v5.0.1
    - Would NOT mirror the general user interface like on the iPad 2
    - I tried YouTube and could view videos
    - I tried a couple other apps that specifically have TV-out capabilities and they worked

In general did what I needed it to do for business presentations.

Wasted money Apple Store tech did not know anything

Bought this specifically to watch itunes purchased movies on projector at home with the family. Asked the Apple tech guys if this would work and they definitely assured me it would! What a bunch of lies to sell products, this is OK to watch your iPad home screen or run a limited number of apps on the projector but as soon as you start a movie get a message saying 'this device is not authorised to play this movie'. Wish I had read the reviews before spending £25 on this rubbish.

It shows every app, every screen, basically everything it needs to show! I use my ipad in my 3rd grade classroom and need this adapter to show the kids what to do and how to work things. WARNING: if you go to show a video, make sure you close out of that app before ding anything else, otherwise you will have no video. It simply works!

perhaps Apple updated the info for this item, but it is plain at this point- This Item only works for certain functions on most devices. On most devices, it only plays video or photos. It does what it does, not what you wish it would do.

Following advise from the Apple sales staff, I bought this product believing that All my applications including ITunes movies and music can be played through my non Apple TV, just to find that his is not possible. What a waste of money and time. I am bitterly dissapointed.
