    Wow...replacing a Power Adapter after 8 months

I agree with the other negative reviews! Apple needs to do something about these adapter issues. We've had our MacBook Pro for 8 months and the adapter stopped working. Let's hope our new one lasts longer than that...

Adapter chargers for this product do not last :(

I have had my macbook pro for only a year and a half. Already the charger adapter's white wire casing near the magnetic end of the MagSafe connector is tearing and shredding all on it's own, exposing the wire itself. This is happening for seemingly no reason besides from basic coiling, which any wire can withstand and comes with basic use of the object, like lifting the wire from point A to point B. As i keep the computer and the chord in the same room always. I am guessing the thin white wire insulation that is supposed to protect the wire is too weak and thin. It cannot handle basic use! Now I need a new one. And I've owned it for no longer than a year and a half and have treated this product like a baby as to make sure not to ruin it. Now I've got to get a new charger for it and seeing as 80$ is very expensive for something that broke on it's own. I am not a happy customer. :/

I just bought my mac and adapter in february ... its now september- my Adapter has a short in it. i have to twist and turn it a certain way for it to even charge my laptop. Now i need a new one AND ITS 73.00 are you kidding me?

For this adapter to be so flimsy i expect a lower price. Dell computer adapters are sturdier and their adapters are universal (I can go to Walmart and pick one up)

So I am ordering another adapter now ... 73.00 down the drain- thanks Apple. Please make a sturdier, thicker and more endurable, COST CONSCIOUS adapter.

i purchased this charger a few months ago to replace the original one. The only problem I had with the original was my puppy chewed through it. This charge constantly feels hot, and now no longer charges. I have only had this for a few months and I am extremely disappointed.

    Terrible lifespan...

I've now had three separate magsafe power adapters fail on me in around the 1.5 years I've had my macbook. The first, older style one actually lasted the longest despite how rough I was with it. One I got this style of charger though I was a lot more careful with how I treated the wire, and they still lasted much less than the original one my computer came packaged with. The wiring either connecting to the adapter or to the magsafe connector doesn't last long and seems to get quickly frayed from careful usage.

The cost is way too high for the terrible lifespan of the product.

I absolutely LOVE my mac book pro but why does Apple make such a low quality adapter?? We spend lots of money of your computers so we should get a power chord that lasts more than 7 months. Ridiculous. And if they do break we should not have to pay for it. I am NOT happy. FIX THIS!!!!!!

Is this REALLY an Apple product?

A little over 1 year after purchasing my first Apple Macbook Pro, I now have to replace the charger for $80. I have owned many PC based laptops, and never before had a problem with the charger! After reading the reviews and seeing the overall low low rating other consumers have given this product, Apple it's time to listen and ACT to remedy the problem.

I've had my MacBook Pro for 6 months and I am having all kinds of issues with the adapter you have to wiggle it to get it to work. I can't move my laptop because it bends and it stops working. It overheats and it goes off at random....Apple needs to come up with a better product because this ruins my whole I love Mac Experience..

This is the same as the old power cord. It wears out on the cord and then fails to charge the computer. This is my second one and third overall since 2008. So a new one every year since i have owned my computer. This needs to be addressed.

    costly repeated replacement

I have had to replace the magsafe charger a total of 4 times on my macbook. The original seems to have lasted the longest, but each replacement is a costly one, and my last one has just failed although it was purchased less than a year ago.

Aside from the cost, it is also a safety issue. In each instance of failure, the wires at the base of the connection seem to disconnect from the magnet's base. When I first noticed this I would wiggle it around some to get it to recognize the charger, but when this caused sparks one time, I quickly disconnected it. Because of the safety issues alone, I feel like it should be replaced via apple, but it is not and so I have to continue to purchase them repeatedly. While my computer is reliable, at this rate I will have spent enough to purchase a new one within the next two years. VERY disappointing.

Please READ before purchasing a macbook

Don't get me wrong the performance of the Macbook is superb...but the CHARGER. It cost $80. $80 for plastic that breaks frequently throughout the year. Unlike others who literally had parts of their charger melt of or the flimsy wires snapping mines just...broke. Now I have to get a charger for the third time. That is 280 dollars, its barely been a year since I've owned a Macbook. Like others I looked to the macbook as an investment for me so I wouldn't have to worry about replacing my laptop during my college years. I thought the money would be worth it if it had lasted me at least my undergraduate years but I can't afford replacing the charger. Those 80 dollars are supposed to be put aside for food, tuition, and rent. Instead I find myself repeatedly paying for these chargers. If this continues, I would have paid for several computers by the end of my undergraduate years without even having this one break. I can't even look to other websites like amazon, the prices may be cheaper but the charger only lasts a week if I'm lucky. If I could go back in time, I would stop myself from buying this computer solely because of the charger. And the fact that this has been going on for years shows the lack of respect this company has for its customers. Its disappointing and if I have to continue buying more chargers I might as well buy myself a new computer. Apple, just fix your charger.

Seriously, Apple? This charger causes more problems than it solves. First of all, the whole notion that it will simply pop out if tripped over is false. That magnet has more than enough force to yank my 13" Macbook Pro off of any table. It also has enough force to rip itself off of the end of the cable (which is what happened to a friend with the same computer). Secondly, the cable itself really likes to fray. And thirdly, The new one I had to buy barely charges my Mac. If it wiggles up or down just a bit, it will stop charging. I love most Apple products but this is one that needs to be buried.

The only Apple product I'm dissatisfied with

This is my second charger in four years. I treated the second one with particular care because I had to fork out £60 to replace the first one that broke, and now this one has broken too. I'm a student and can't afford to pay out for a charger that shouldn't have broken in the first place.

I've not wrapped the cable round the pop out bits because I knew that would cause it to break. I've not exposed it to water or excessive heat, and I've curled the wire up gently when travelling. I've only used this cable the way one would expect to be able to use a portable item, and now it's broken! This is a useless charger. It is a hindrance to a perfectly good laptop. I'm otherwise a huge fan of Apple and this has really let me down.

These things seem to be made to be disposable. I have had to purchase 4 of them in the past two years. The MacBook is a great little laptop but the power adapter is just horrible. Apple should be ashamed to say that they even manufacture this. I wish I was able to give it no stars at all.

    Lasted less than a year

As many others have noted, this "redesigned" adapter lasted me less than a year. After an accident with the one that came with my Macbook, I bought this one thinking it would survive for quite a while. Now, just a few months later, it overheats, makes weird noises, won't charge my computer well, and then after a bit it will just shut off completely. Switching outlets seems to be the only thing keeping it running at all, and even then only for a short time. This needs to be fixed.

I've had my macbook for less than a year & replaced this charger once, and just now my second one stopped working! I'm going to have to buy my THRID charger in less than 1 year. I am absolutely NOT pleased. These things are expensive and I expect something 100X better for the $80 (that has now turned into $240). SUCH a disappointment Apple.

We have been happy with our Apple products such as Macbooks, ipads, and iphones - but we are fed up with having to replace these chargers. We purchased ANOTHER replacement charger for our daughter this summer and surprise, it failed today. College daughter, no charger, in town with no Apple store equals angry parents. Apple, you have had a problem with these chargers for some time. FIX IT!
