    Here we go again

    • Written by from Lindenhurst

This is now the 3rd maybe even fourth charger that I'm buying. They all have the same fatal flaw: the rubber casing wears out, exposing the inner wires. Taping it with electrical tape can only help for so long. Eventually, even that doesn't work and I end up back here. I wish they'd come up with a better design. Perhaps making them out of paracord might make them more flexible and less likely to break. Apple, you should be ashamed to sell a product with so many negative reviews!

Amazing adapter, never failed on me

    • Written by from Richmond Hill

My Macbook Pro 13" 2012 is my first Mac, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the power cord. It's design is ingenious and the magnet is super useful (strong enough not to fall out all the time, but weak enough to fall out when needed. This is unlike the *new* MagSafe 2 which took a step back in history and uses the old useless easily breakable T style connector). The L design is absolutely fabulous as I can have the cord coming out the back of my Mac or along the side. I've has my mac for 2 and a half years now and I have NEVER had a problem with the cord. No deteriorating, no breaking, it's flawless and much better than any cord I have ever seen. I have NO IDEA how all these other customers manage to break their cords, for I couldn't even if I tried.

Outrageously expensive product that needs fixing!!!!

    • Written by from Toronto

I am so angry with the power adapter of MacBook Pro. It is a serious issue and the Apple needs to fix it. It is ridiculous to purchase the adapter for $100 in Canada. I am a grad student and my income isn't that generous to spend it for an adapter every year. I had to buy the third adapter within less than 4 years. And stop forcing me to rate this product when I am not even writing a positive feedback.

    NEED NEW DESIGN

    • Written by from Calgary

This the third cord I've had to buy for my macbook pro within the few years I've had it. I shouldn't have to be spending $80 on a cord every year. This is ridiculous, a new design and improvement should be made so this doesn't keep happening to customers.

    macbook charger

    • Written by from South Holland

I'm becoming very frustrated with these chargers. I bought my laptop in 2008 and have bought a total of 3 chargers! I just bought one last year! They should last at least 5 years. I'm tired of paying $80 every other year for something that is poorly made. I like my macbook but I'm considering getting a regular laptop.

    Total Utter Garbage

    • Written by from Calgary

Well I'll add my voice to the chorus of disbelief and outrage. Like pretty much every other reviewer, I'm getting pretty tired of having to buy new charge cords for my laptop. This puts me solidly at about a rate of a cord a year. The first two frayed at the connection, despite me taking good care of them. Well, I got tired of dropping $80/charger on this trash, and the next one I got from Ebay for a little bit cheaper. And that one too is now not really working, although it's not frayed. I believe it has something to do with the block, because when I press down on where the cord connects to the block it works, but it's not really working otherwise. Honestly, I think that you should be able to be pretty rough with these things, considering that you would expect them to see a bit of wear with them being for a laptop and seeing a lot of travel and all that. But they don't even stand up to gentle usage, never mind regular or moderate usage. It's just really disappointing. I have largely enjoyed my laptop. But this is just ridiculous, and it's obviously a very, VERY common issue.

    A really terrible product

    • Written by from Summerfield

As it has been said many times already, this product is just awful. I'm about to buy my FOURTH for my 13' 2011 pro. I cannot fathom why Apple hasn't improved it yet.

Durability Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter

    • Written by from Santa Fe

Terrible design and overpriced. The cord joints are not made to hold up even within the natural memory of its cord. For being a lap top component it should be designed and fabricated to hold up to the daily use of laptop life on the road.

    Does not last.

Just Horrible. I am now on my THIRD power charger for this macbook pro. Seriously, the adapter breaks ALL of the time. My computer is apple. My 4 kids have either apple phones or iPods. We have an iPad. Don't you love us anymore? I really wish I could get a break with this Macbook and the charger. I have read other reviews as well and they almost always break. $79 is a lot of money for something that always breaks!!!

Cord Frays easily, yet another flawed design.

    • Written by from Paradise

I constantly recommend apple products because of the wonderful software, but the hardware and accessories are consistently garbage. This cord and charger, like previous models, eventually frayed at the junction where the cord meets the solid connector to the macbook. what did they expect would happen if they made a parallel connector where the cord can flex and be placed under extreme stress? Other laptop charger cords don't have these problems. The worst part is that apple simple ignores the problem whenever their products fail due to shoddy design. Thousands of customers are being made to shuck out 90 bucks to replace an inferior product, and apple just denies that the problem exists. Did you spend 300 dollars on apple care for your macbook? Too bad! Cords and chargers aren't covered (I wonder why). This is the sort of thing class action lawsuits are made of, and the first hint of one will see me on board. Multiple failed hard drives, cracked macbook bodies, and frayed cords. Enough with the garbage, Apple.

Product is far too expensive.Only had to purchase it because the original had rotted and started to fall apart. When this one eventually goes the same way as my original I will be taking both back to an Apple store and insisting on a free replacement.

    4th charger, in 5 years

    • Written by from Columbus

I do not understand how these chargers are made, or why they cannot seem to last. BUT $80, $80 for a product that last about a year?

I have now had two chargers break at the tip(fray or bunch) , and one CATCH ON FIRE, and one where box that would heat up and burn anything it was sitting on. In the last 5 years I have spent $320 on chargers, and had to replace a battery in my laptop (another $80) due to the way one of my chargers was acting. I could have purchased a less expensive LAPTOP for this price. As a college student this is not something that is acceptable. I stopped taking my charger places and only charger my laptop on my desk, so its not how I am treating it. PLEASE APPLE, make a thicker, more usable cord. There is no reason your laptop cord should be the same size as your phone charger, or that there isn't an ability to only purchase one part of the cord.

I have all mac products and love them, but the chargers need to be fixed. Especially at this price, I can replace a phone charger if needed but the laptop is getting out of hand.

Aweful cord since the coating splits and falls off!

    • Written by from Clinton

I am on my 4th charger in 5 years. The coating simply splits and falls off for no reason. It'll likely take someone getting shocked by it and suing for Apple to pay attention to this. I only use it at my desk and the odd hotel room on trips. I can't believe Apple won't stand behind the flaw in these. Furthermore I can't believe they haven't found a way to fix this issue. Absolutely inexcusable!

My 3rd Power supply in 3 years

    • Written by from Titusville

My original power supply output failed in 9 months. and was replaced. My replacement cable insulation jacket split this week and I am ordering my third power supply today. You expect to pay more for Apple products but the expectation of high quality should justify that increased cost. The Quality of these power supplies is definitely not up to customer expectations.

    Fails after a few months

    • Written by from Madison

The weak link in the design is the thin cord that goes from the brick to the laptop. It gets pinched at the base, and fails after a few months. It's a waste and a rip off to have to pay $90 to replace the whole unit when only the cord is damaged. And the cord shouldn't be so fragile in the first place.

That part of the cord should be reenforced somehow, and it should plug in to the brick and be sold separately.

    Agreeing with many reviews

    • Written by from Amherst

My MagSafe charger was bumped against the floor and stopped working. I would hope that a product that is designed with portability in mind would keep working after a bump. The soft white covering has peeled away and the wires are exposed and frayed on my newest charger. I seldom pack my cable to transport as it stays at my home. I am disappointed like many others.

    Not Good.

    • Written by from pewaukee

The insulation on this power cord as well as the one I got with my iphone began to split, and crumble and stretch. This is my third cord and probably the least abused as these days my computer sits on a table and I move it very little and practically never pack it up anymore. When I have power adapters for electronics from the 80s still working and the wires and insulation on this is just shot it's ridiculous. At $80 a piece I'd expect the thing to last more than a few months to a year.

    These cords split open

    • Written by from Goderich

Both myself and my boyfriend own MacBook Pros and both of our charger cables have managed to split open. The plastic/rubber around the cable itself has split open, we managed to tape it, to which it started to split under the tapping a few weeks later. It still works but now has tape covering roughly 5 inches of the cable. The other charger had the same issue, except that its now useless because the actual wires inside started to fray apart as well. The only way it works is to compress the cable together and hold it like that while it charges. Very disappointing.

    Shabby

    • Written by from Fresno

LIke many other Apple users, this is my third power adapter. The last one lasted under a year. Same problem: the cord breaks and exposes the wire where it enters the brick. It gets hot and you wonder if it will cause a fire. I told Apple about this problem, but the employee inferred that I was causing the problem. That I was bending the cord at a right angle, thus the break. After the first adapter failed, I was careful how I used the cord. Despite this, simple everyday use results in another exposed wire on my second adapter. Now I am on my third and I wonder how long it will last. Why Apple doesn't listen to its unhappy customers is baffling. Perhaps it figures it is too big to fail or is above criticism. I have been an Apple user since the days of the Apple IIC, which goes back to the mid-1980s. I can't register too strongly my disgust with this adapter. Do something, Apple!
