    Not very good

    • Written by from Bristol

Flimsy charger, and not up to the excellent quality of the macbook pro. Very easily damaged if you frequently travel with your macbook.

Hard to unplug the long lead due to small plug size. The narrow gauge wire (the tail to the magsafe plug) is vulnerable to wear due to the way it protrudes from the top of the adapter body.

The adapter casing is poorly bonded.

    Expensive to replace.

    Now ordering my 3rd charger...

    • Written by from Marlette

I am all for everything Apple - everything except these chargers. They are too expensive to be replacing all the time. I am very cautious when I am using them, but somehow the wires always end up being exposed. I am seeing that I am definitely not alone in this - PLEASE FIX THIS!

Not worth the laughable price tag.

    • Written by from Guildford

Firstly I have to say I like Apple products, I am a graphic designer and they are great for what I do from a day-to-day basis. I also get it yes.. of course you need to make them more expensive than the competition to give the user the satisfaction that they are paying for Apple quality and the positive benefits that come with that.

What I don't get is the need to make Apple users pay way over the odds for simple things like chargers, adaptors, headphones etc. If your adaptors were made of some kind of nigh-on unbreakable wire then fine, great, charge nearly £70 for a simple adaptor. But they aren't. Oh what's that you say? They have a lovely gimmicky magnet which allows you to find where the charge socket on your laptop is in the dark?? No, not just the dark, but it helps the cable from not tearing. Er... but it doesn't does it. As many people here have mentioned, the main area where the cable snaps, tears or rips is by the heavy part of the charger - the actual power adaptor. Is there any super duper magnet or tangle free system here to help? ..... No. It tangles, it tears, it becomes defunct like any cheap adaptor anywhere else.

Sort it out Apple, either make the power adaptor worth the pounds/euros/dollars or just make it cheaper. Stop taking the Mick.

Its not like people wouldn't ever need to buy an adaptor ever again as every-time you bring out a new machine you change the connector anyway!

    Oh Goodness

    • Written by from Little Rock

I have had my Macbook Pro since 2011 and I love it dearly. My sister has had her Macbook Pro since 2009. We love everything about it except for the charger. Together I would have to say that we have gone through at least 10 maybe even more chargers due to the fact that the wires come exposed constantly. We try to use them as long as possible, but once they start to spark, we are out. I don't understand.

    Bad cords

    • Written by from Lake Mary

I am about to buy my 5th charger in 4 years. My first one I had to replace because it started to fray because it couldn't handle the new silver macbooks. Then, they came out with the new expensive one so that died out after 6 months. I ended up buying a new macbook anyway and within 3 days, the charger crapped out so I had a friend who worked at apple switch the chargers out. #4 charger just crapped out on me just today and I stole my brother's charger but it is spotty too. Apple, something's gotta give.

    Why?!!

    • Written by from Richmond

I've had my power adapter for just over 2 months and it's not even working anymore. What the heck, Apple?! Very disappointing, especially after seeing on here that I'm not the only person this has happened to. I hope you'll do the right thing and return my money or replace this piece of junk. :(

Poor design, what were you thinking

    • Written by from Virginia Beach

the brick itself may be quality, but the cable was definitely designed for its looks. Like literally every other apple cable i have owned, that came out in the last five years or so, they always break on the end. Today my sister came to me to charge her MacBook because her broke after being repaired for the second time. Mine was hold together with tape but today, after less than a year it snapped. I am on 3% battery, using the last 13 minutes i have (witch is impressive by the way) on telling you how much you s****. Fire someone and fix it ASAP

    not durable

    • Written by from DERBY

My mac is about 4 years old and this is my 3rd charger. The cord disintegrates through normal use. I don't even move my charger cable around much and it always goes bad. Apple really need to forget having a so called elegant looking thin cord and get a thicker more durable one. For saying how much the macbook pro itself cost and then to get replacement things like chargers £65 is bad. These chargers should really be no more the £20 as you have to keep replacing them. All apple chargers in my house do not stand the test of time.

    Lasts about a year

    • Written by from Preston

It's June 2014. I bought my MacBook in June 2010. This is my fourth power adaptor. They may last well if you never take your portable computer travelling but I bought my computer to assist me with work and so it's moved about a lot. The cables simply are not rugged enough. I'm just glad that the previous two replacements were covered by AppleCare.

I have had to replace two adapters in the past 6 months

    • Written by from Sedona

Come on Apple - you are known and respected for your lap tops. I have been a loyal customer since 1985 (!) and always trusted the Apple brand. However my recent experience with the l-shaped power cords for the 13 " Macbook Pro has been highly disappointing and frustrating. From the reviews by other customers I read on just the first page I can see we are all disgusted with the quality and price. Twice this year the prongs for the magnetic connection have broken off! I can connect them for awhile but then the connection starts to fail and I have to grit my teeth and replace the device.

Surely Apple could reengineer the power adapter so that it does not fray, burn, fall apart as is reported by so many loyal customers. Paying almost $90 to replace it is wearing on my patience as well as confidence that Apple stands behind its products. I would appreciate it if customer support would contact me regarding the issue.

    "Perfect travelling companion" NOT!

    • Written by from Sheffield

I have a late (Dec) 2011 MacBook Pro. I use it daily at work and at home, and therefore it travels quite a lot. Consequently, the adapter gets wound up an awful lot of times. The product description states: "Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage."

What a load of nonsense!! I naively followed the "designed storage" option, only to find that the thinner part of the cable where it leaves the transformer body has frayed and now the whole thing needs to be replaced. I'm not exactly thrilled at paying £65 for a new one, when it is the "designed" storage that has caused the damage in the first place. Even less so, if the warranty is limited to 90 Days as other reviews state. Thing is I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place - a dead MacBook or an extortionately-priced charger? Yeah, thanks Apple.

    Way too expensive.

    • Written by from Calgary

I've had my MacBook since 2008 and since I've bought it I've had to replace the charging cord several times. While I may not lose the charging function of the cord, it frays excessively. I'm well aware that things will grow weathered and tattered - such is life, nothing lasts forever. This is out of control though. I'm a huge supporter of Apple and their products but this is one thing that really grinds my gears. They look and act cheap but they're sure to put a hole in the average Joe's pocket. It's a shame its our only option.

    • Written by from Leeds

the skin of the cabe started peeling off and I've mended it with electrical tape. I was thinking about buying a new one and started looking on the apple website and on ebay. After reading the reviews, I thought it was best to keep mending my old one until it stops working for good...

Wires inside the cable are too fragile...

    • Written by from Albany

The magnetic attachment is the best thing since sliced bread. Saved my computer many many times. But I've used up several of these units over the years, and it's just a simple (and stupid) matter of the tiny tiny tiny wires inside the small cable breaking. And they're completely unrepairable. It's just stinging out on a very expensive power adapter. Shame.

    Bad Plastics

    • Written by from Shoreline

After all the problems with the G4 series adapers I was really hoping you would get it right this time. Nope. Same issues. The intersection points on the adapters fail over time (fraying and splitting). I could understand a bit of wear at the insertion point for the laptop, but the terminals failed at the same rate, (the damage was identical on both ends of the adapter). I am not one of those people who pull the adapter out of the wall with a yank, most of the time my adapter stays plugged into one place. To me that means the plastics used were inferior (eroding and changing color). At $79 to replace, this feels like a kind of extortion. Very unhappy loyal customer.

Not Durable at All - Time to rethink the design.

    • Written by from Greer

I followed the care instructions the the letter... and yet my charger's wires became twisted and bent underneath the rubber coating. This will eventually lead to stressed and frayed connections... Not to mention this is my SECOND charger in 2 Year's time. This charger is not on par with the computer itself.

    Faulty charger

    • Written by from Sugar Land

I absolutely love my MacBook pro! This computer is the reason that I got into Web and Graphic design, but these chargers are something else. I have had my computer for 2 years and I have gone through 3 chargers. I will admit, coming from a PC, I roughed up the first one, but I absolutely babied the other 2 and they still broke on me. I found a place that will replace my charger a little better than AppleCare would though. It's kinda like charger insurance. It's my fix until Apple comes up with a better solution. It's called mac charger replacement on FaceBook. Hope this helps guys :)

Disappointed: 3rd charger in 5 years

    • Written by from Libertyville

I have had my MacBook for 5 years now with minimal issues, yet I'm on my 3rd charger. It seems like a common problem if you look at the other reviews on this product. It's very frustrating to have to buy charger after charger at 80 some dollars a piece. I bought a Mac because I had heard about their outstanding reliability. It seems this only goes for the laptop itself, not the accessories. You would think that Apple would address the issue with so many dissatisfied customers.
