First off, I really like the Magic Trackpad - I found it to be easier to use, especially once gesture controls were introduced.

The only draw-back I see to it, is that there will always be somethings that mice are better at then trackpads. Gaming, for instance, can be a bit of a pain... especially first-person shooter types. Also, dragging and moving can be a bit of a hassle, since you're limited by the surface of the trackpad.

All-in-all, I think it's a great product. I've grown so used to having gesture controls, that I get a little irritated when I have to use a mouse for something... the trackpad just makes working through OSX a breeze. Get one, you won't be disappointed.

If only it would allow functionality rotation. On a desk the trackpad works perfectly but put it on the sofa or soft or an uneven and it's a different story, the click function is activated through the underneath foot pads so often won't work on these surfaces. But the real missed trick is it's nearly useless if used in a hand held manner rotated through 90 degrees using the battery compartment as a comfortable logical hand hold, if only they'd allowed it to functionality to automatically switch on rotation. They could have had answer to ridding us of all remotes but missed.

This thing is really, really great. When it works. Unfortunately, more than half the time, it doesn't. It skips and jumps and skitters all over the place, magically turning your computer into a very heavy and expensive paperweight. Called Apple - they said go exchange it. I did. Second one acts exactly the same. Googling around I see I'm not the only one screaming in frustration over this. And apparently, there doesn't seem to be a fix. I would love to be able to use this. But not if it means every once in awhile, unexpectedly, I won't be able to use my computer. Love Apple. Despise this worthless little device.

The only magic I experienced with this device was when I made it disappear. I stopped using it after struggling with it for a few months. Here's why: Finding the right place to click is a mystery, it seems to change all the time. Right-clicking is a guessing game, I actually had to put a sticker on it so I could find the sweet spot. Why would there be a sweet spot on a trackpad? It's not a golf club. Here's another reason: if the batteries die (mine died during a Webex presentation to a room full of executives) it might lock up your main trackpad on your Macbook, so you can't do anything at all unless you manually disconnect Blue Tooth, using the tab and arrow keys. Or you happen to have a spare mouse in your pocket. Tough spot to be in during a serious presentation. One star for design, otherwise useless.

This device should have a USB connection. The Bluetooth connection is horribly unreliable, goes on and off even with full batteries. But even if it were 100% stable, the design would still make no sense. Why have to replace batteries all the time when the USB-connected keyboard is right next to the thing, with an empty USB socket pointing right at it?

Apple, make one of these with USB and I will buy it! But offer ANY Bluetooth devices any more. I don't want them. I hate buying or charging batteries. Extra work for me that I do not need and wasteful, too.

I've already got a Magic Mouse, and that's been great, but I have been thinking of upgrading to a Wacom style pen & tablet.

I discovered the Magic Trackpad on the Apple Store, and thought that could be the best of both worlds: ease of use of a mouse and the precision of the pen & tablet.

I have been using the Magic Trackpad for a few hours now, and slowly getting used to it; also lots of tweaking of the options in the control panel too!

The two issues I've noticed so far:

1. The incline of the pad itself. I know it matches the keyboard nicely, but that tilt is making my wrists hurt already. I've put a platform under it to raise the lower edge to ease the strain, and that seems to be working.

2. It's not as precise as I can be on my mouse, although my fingers aren't fat, it does require some accuracy to pin point the Bezier point, or click a tiny radio button, etc. I'm now using an iPad stylus on it and that seems to work brilliantly!

3. Possibly some kind of pressure settings could be added, as the pad can detect my finger just hovering above it. It's truly amazing, but I'm constantly selecting stuff I don't want to or swiping pages online by mistake!

Over all though it's an excellent purchase. Not a bad price too.

The magic trackpad might just be the greatest accessory apple has made. I just recently purchased an iMac and instead of going with the magic mouse I chose this instead and have not regretted that decision for one minute. Its looks great but most importantly its functional. I have to run a lot of programs that require responsive and functional mice, (auto cad, rhino, photoshop, indesign, revit, sketch up, 3ds max, etc. by the way Im an architecture student) and this track pad knocks it out of the park. So if you are looking for something to run some serious programs or just to have a really cool mouse to show friends give this a shot I am almost certain you will love it. Plus it will feel like a natural transition from iPhone to your computer. Enjoy!

Purchased 6 weeks ago. Everything worked, and was useful, It has now stopped and can't be found by bluetooth, despite new batteries. I'm not impressed by the durability. I'll stay with my wacom bamboo pad, which is durable and reliable, though does not have the same finger-touch function, it remains preferable to a mouse.

this thing just did not fit the bill for me. i have been completely satisfied with every apple product I have ever bought until this one. I thought it would fix the quirkiness of Lion if I had a multitouch trackpad... but once I started using it I found it was just a patch. 2.1ghz core 2 duo with 4gb of memory and an ssd... figured this would fit in just fine. ended up being real awkward even after adjusting all the settings I could think of.

turns out windows 7 and a scroll wheel mouse have bought my computing experience back from the dead.

no hate here. just my two cents. too long using the same ui. just felt so stale. trackpad set the whole thing off.
