    second battery in 3 yrs

    • Written by from Folkestone

Had my 13" MacBook for 3 years, and this is my second battery to dry up. This seems pretty poor in comparison to other makes of laptop I've owned. I can only assume these batteries have an issue.
£97 does seem pretty steep for a battery. The only thing in Apple's favour is that when I took the first dud battery in to my local Apple Store the assistant was very helpful, and gave me a new battery for free. Fingers crossed this time...

    Great product

My battery just died after three years of regular use. I'm super happy with how long the battery lasted and am off to the store to buy a new one. I would definitely pay the extra money for an Apple-endorsed battery. Other batteries sold elsewhere are not of the best quality or fit for the Macbook.

    Not bad for me...

    • Written by from Lake Worth

I use my MacBook 8-10 hours a day between work and college. I have had the computer since Oct 2006 and I just got a new battery for Christmas. My old one still worked, was able to get 2.5-3 hours out of a full charge with the brightness on high and always 10+ programs open. I do only leave it plugged in until it's fully charged and then use it completely until the battery is almost dead before plugging it back in. But since I use the computer so much in a day, I decided to ask for a new one from Santa.

Gave 5 out of 5 stars because it's been no trouble for me. With as much as I use my computer, I'm surprised the battery didn't give out sooner. Love my MacBook, and won't ever go back to a PC.

    Apple Batteries, Target Practice Anyone?

    • Written by from Titusville

I have owned my mac for over 3years now and to be just blunt, Apple batteries are horrid. Your much better off going with an off brand. The orginal battery lasted a little over a year. The replacement has lasted again about a year, but I've been reluctant to purchase another. I am currently purchasing an off-brand for about 1/4 of the price.

The quality Apple is pushing out on these is not Apple-par. My mom's PC laptop battery has lasted 5years and still holds a 60% charge... Apple you need to fix this... -_-

    Lucky me

    • Written by from Aptos

I've had my MacBook for just over two years and I still get about 2 hours of use on a charge, with high screen brightness. I make sure to run the power down and fully charge as much as possible. I appear to be lucky but I'm sure I'll need a new one soon. It died out of nowhere the other night at about 25% and I'm afraid it's on its way out. I don't care though, I love my MacBook. I see a 15" MacBook Pro in the near future . . .

You need to know how to use it.

Let me guess, you leave your book plugged in, sometimes overnight even though its fully charged. That is what is killing your battery. I just learned that and am buying a new battery. It makes complete sense to me. Although it would be nice if something would stop the battery from overcharging, but 'what you gonna do about it"...I'm gonna stop plugging my battery in when I don't need to, easy enough and it saves me on the powerbill.

    Still love my macbook.

    Worried

    • Written by from Sebring

My battery is now in need of servicing. What does that mean? I now have to worry about a battery for my portable that has never given me 5 hours, despite the claims by Apple and some devoted/lucky customers.

I will eventually have to get a replacement, I suppose, which then means more money spent. I hope that is not the Apple modus operandi, as I would be most disappointed. I agree with earlier comments, Apple does need to look at the quality of its batteries. Maybe that is why they decided to do internal batteries.

What are you gonna do about it???

    • Written by from New York

It's astonishing how poor the quality on Apples batteries are.
Headed out to the Apple store to get the third one for a Macbook that's two years old. They just stop working after a few hundred charges, which makes them by-far the worst quality batteries I have used as a professional, and the hurdles that Apple makes you jump through to get a replacement are atrocious.

304 Cycles and the battery completely dies. I'm just disgusted by how little care Apple has about this - but they do get to charge you upwards of 15% of the new purchase price of a Macbook just to replace the batt. Makes it worthwhile to just consider buying a new one (or course it won't be a Macbook since the quality is just so bad).

    Far too expensive

    • Written by from Musselburgh

When you have invested in an apple product and it lacks battery longevity it seems like adding insult to injury to charge almost £100 for a replacement. £50 would be a more reasonable price.

    Not Bad At All

    • Written by from Dumfries

Ive had my Macbook for nearly 3 years and after about 440 cycles it is down to 26% and the battery lasts 40 minutes if I'm lucky.

I had never noticed any problems until very recently. It has only given up in the last few months so I can't really complain.

I cant think of a day that it wasn't used, so this really isn't a bad time at all for it to last.

Sometimes I would accidentally leave it in the car in cold conditions etc. and I have never really had any problems with it running.

I'm not extremely happy paying nearly £100 to replace it, but i know it will be worth it knowing I wont have to plug in to charge after 20 minutes.

I just hope my new one will last me as long :)

I had my Mac for under 1 year ( 10 months ) when it broke.
It has decided to read that it has not got any battery and it is not going to charge.
I am not happy about having to pay €139.99 for it! - Its ridicules!

    2 Macbooks, 2 dead batteries

    • Written by from Clarksville

I bought this Macbook in August of 2008 and the battery has been fine. It held a charge and worked just fine until last night, I plugged it in to charge overnight and woke up to a steady green light and a dead battery. It seems little premature, especially since I bought my wife a Macbook in February of this year and the same thing happened to hers about a month ago. Luckily, hers was under warranty and the "Geniuses" at the Mac store gave us a new one. As for me, no such luck and I find it a little disheartening to have to buy another battery not even a year and a half after this one was new.

Apple should be paying attention to this forum, this looks to be a common occurrence. Perhaps MS could take some wind out of the OSX sail with this gem.

    short life

    • Written by from OKLAHOMA CITY

The battery only lives for a year, and then is gone. My wife and I own 3 macbooks, 2 of had the same exact problem. The battery all of the sudden is dead. That means $300 on top of what we already paid... we used to love mac products, now we just like them.

I have had mine for almost 3 years now, using it in university all day everyday and at work in the summers. I always have charged mine fully and let it run almost empty (like you're supposed to) and I still can squeeze 5 hours out of my macbook. Usually I can easily get 4 hours running safari and word and powerpoint. I have even updated my drive from 60GB to 500GB and RAM from 0.5GB to 2GB and I still get great battery life. I'll replace it when this trend peters out, but it's still going strong so what the hey?

    Really Good

    • Written by from bristol

    My battery just died :-(

But it's 3+ years old and had 892 cycles on it. I used it 10 hours a day, 7 days a week, for over 3 years and it died with a 77% life.

Battery are random, some are good, some are bad. But the one I'm replacing was a good one. Hopefully the new one will be just as good.

    Going strong

    • Written by from Kansas City

After reading these reviews I had to give it 5 stars. I got on the apple store site to see what kind of improved performance I could get by getting a new battery, as mine is 2 and a half years old. It currently gives me 4 hours of daily use with the display backlight at lower settings. I use my macbook 13" for college and can't live without it. I think I'll put off the purchase until mine is under 3 hours.

    dead battery

    • Written by from Bluffton

I obviously got this battery with my macbook, 15 months ago. I really hadn't even noticed my battery life draining, but all of a sudden one day the battery just died!!! I have no idea why. Its still brand new and not over used and only works when plugged in. I tried a friends battery and it works so that is definitely the problem. I am no where near a store, and I've got to spend nearly $150 to get another battery, I hope this isn't an every year problem. If so Ill be switching back to PC. Love my Mac to death, but I am not made of money.

    Two batteries in two years

    • Written by from Nixa

I've had my Mac for a little over two years and this is the second time my battery has quit on me. Two batteries in two years is pretty sad.

The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because when it is working, I can go five or six hours on a charge. That's better than any laptop I've had in the past.
