    Useful and sexy!

    • Written by from Leichhardt

I've recently bought one of these for my Retina MacBook Pro 15". I've read many places online that it mostly just saves space and looks cool, but many people have also mentioned that it doesn't really keep your MacBook much cooler. However I've noticed that my MacBook runs considerably cooler in this stand as well!. I often had the lid closed lying flat on my desk connected to a Thunderbolt Display and according to iStat my SSD and CPU would fluctuate between 50-60C and GPU would be around 60 C when I'm just using it for light work and browsing the net, etc. and even sometimes my fan would speed up to 2500 RPM on hot days. However since I got the BookArc my SSD has been hovering around 35 C, CPU around 40 and GPU between 45-50 C and my fans no longer speed up when just using my mac lightly! I'm more than impressed!!

    Pros:
    - Stylish minimalistic design.
    - Has a bit of weight to it; keeps MacBook sturdy on the desk.
    - Saves a lot of space (duh!)
    - Has cable management under the stand.
    - Silicone inserts can be replaced and bought from Twelve South.
    - Keeps MacBook MUCH cooler than lying flat on table.
    - You won't find any other MacBook stand that looks quite as good as this.

    Cons:
    - A little bit pricey for just a piece of aluminium; although the other alternatives and similar products cost about the same.
    - Stand is a little bit long and wide (has a large footprint than I expected), It would probably be about the length of a MacBook Air 11"

Causes Wi-Fi problems for certain macbook models

    • Written by from Perth

This is a nice looking product, and I have set the bookarc for macbook air up with no problems. The macbooks fit snugly in the arc (I have an early 2011 15" macbook pro) and the build quality is nice, as is the weight and feel of the product.

However, one thing that is not addressed is the wi-fi problems caused by operating in 'clamshell' mode, i.e. with the lid closed and an external display connected.

My wi-fi quality decreases significantly when nested in the bookarc, sometimes to the point of being unable to connect. When I remove the macbook from the bookarc and open the lid, I am able to connect flawlessly.

I urge you to check your return policy before buying, as this has turned an otherwise spectacular product into a completely unusable piece of junk.

    Doesn't function entirely as advertised

    • Written by from San Jose

I received two inserts - one for Unibody MacBook Pro and one for 13" white MacBook Pro. Nothing for MacBook Pro with Retina display, but no loss as I don't have one.

The unibody insert does not "fit like glove" and in fact, sitting horizontally, my unibody Pro leans sideways a bit. Further, cable management with my 15" Pro is worthless. It is not possible to place the MacBook Pro into the stand vertically as the arc blocks both the power connector and the Ethernet port. Plus, given the fit, this seems a bit high risk anyway. Horizontally, it works and does free desk space, but no cable management.

    Overall, a very average product.

Bookarc Pro with 2011 MBP 17"

    • Written by from Oswestry

Absolutely excellent product. This stand is rock solid, has a beautifully weighty feel and has an extremely snug fit with my MacBook Pro 17" (Unibody, late 2011). There is no tilt to this product at all when it is upright in the stand which is a great bonus. I had a Speck case fitted to my MacBook Pro, but as expected this had to be removed in order for the laptop to fit into the stand, which to be honest is no issue as I use it as a full time desktop anyway and as the unibody is exposed in its 'naked' form to the open air, cooling is slightly aided, which I have actually noticed (I use a temperature monitor, and the difference is between 7 to 10 degrees Celsius cooler when in the Bookarc as appose to it being lying flat on the desk with the speck case on).

Overall a definite 5/5 for this product; Beautiful packaging, excellent build quality and beautifully simplistic functionality. Highly recommended! Next day delivery from Apple was also a lovely bonus. :)

    Brilliantly Useful!

I bought the twelve south BookArc back in October 2012 (Now.. Jan 13). I have a MacBook Air and the BookArc is great, i usually position my Arc behind my monitor so it free's up space on my desk when im writing, wireframing or doing other tasks that require more space! The BookArc feels sturdy and secure, i've bashed my MacBook a few times when leaning over my monitor to grab cables and the Arc just grips my MacBook Air nice and tight. There's a gap for the cables which is useful for preventing the cables fall down the back of the desk when i'm not using the arc. All in all it was one of my favourite, most convenient to-have products that i purchased last year! If you're even debating buying this but are reluctant to spend the dosh then dont be. It's awesome!

    Excellent stand for MacBook

    • Written by from Plantation

This simple, metal stand does an excellent job at holding my MacBook securely in place when I have it connected to a separate monitor and keyboard/mouse. When I bought it, I thought is was a bit pricey, but don't anymore. It is very stable and doesn't slip on my desk. It makes it very easy to connect my laptop when I get to work and disconnect at day's end. Well-designed product, well worth the money.

Solid, sturdy, attractive. It holds my 17 inch Macbook Pro in an upright position. Wish I had bought this years ago.

    Excellent, Works Incredibly Well.

    • Written by from ROWLAND HEIGHTS

This is a perfect companion to my new Retina MacBook Pro with my 27" LG monitor. I can run graphic intensive games on Boot Camp with full GPU dedication to my monitor.

This stand fits perfectly and no WiFi problems as a fellow beforehand has mentioned. It saves a lot of room on my table, having this item stand up.

The cable management slots are perfect! I have my HDMI cable, keyboard USB, power and audio cable run through them. It helps me organize the cables and avoids tangling them up.

An excellent product and an excellent purchase if you are playing to run an external display.

    Awesome product but slightly disappointed..

    • Written by from San Jose

For the most part, I love this product. It looks vey sleek and sexy and frees up a ton of space on my small desk that I desperately needed. With that said I am a little disappointed on the fitment of my 13" MacBook Pro. It just doesn't fit perfectly snug like you would expect from this overpriced piece of gear. It stands up fine but it slightly tilts to either side which has got my OCD kicking in big time. I don't think a nice fitment is too much to ask especially for something that costed 50 bucks. Also I was hoping if I kept my Speck hardshell case on it would fill the slight gap, but nope, it's too think to get in there with it on. Bummer.

Bottom line, I still love it and am going to keep it but think it could definitely have a better fit for the price.

Great Design, but Flawed for New Retina MacBook Pros

    • Written by from Ottawa

A great design for the the earlier unibody MacBook Pro, but the retrofit approach using a different rubberized gasket to hold a MBPr misses the mark. My MBPr fits in the BookArc Pro sloppily and tilts to one side.

Twelve South needs to retool the design exclusively for the MBPr or successfully redesign the gasket. When this correction is successfully made it will be worthy of 5 stars, but not now.

    Very Good

    • Written by from New Barnet

It's a very sturdy piece of kit and comes with 2 rubber inserts for unibody Macs and Retina Macs. I use it with my Late 2011 Macbook Pro. I only wish it was a tighter fit

    Awsome

Looks cool, works well. It is really sturdy and holds my MBP 15 retina great, it doesn't tilt easily, witch i was afraid of. little bit pricey, but i needed the extra space since my desk is small. Over all a very good product! :D
