One of the Best Headphones I Have Ever Used

    • Written by from Sherwood

A lot of the times, reviews for technical headphones involving a user manual for "setting up" get a lot of low ratings for connectivity issues, user error, and misunderstandings. I have been using these headphones for a long time now, writing reviews for electronic music in Europe and Asia. I need a really good pair of headphones with a large frequency range, and as a producer I can pinpoint development, mastering, and all the audiophile mumbo jumbo needed in a review towards the artist. I can certainly say these headphones allow me to do just that. Great bass. Great mids. Crisp highs. These are top notch, in my opinion.

If the bluetooth doesn't work, it comes with a replacement AUX cable. Best Buy offers a 2 year physical/water damage replacement for $20. (better than the one year non accidental damage that comes with it). The bluetooth, for me, works just fine. The volume, however, will not go past 70% while the AUX will go all the way to 100%. This is my only complaint.

They cushions are very nice and comfortable. I love the design. Its really sexy and I can wear it for hours without hearing damage. Well thought out engineering on the frequency levels. Engulfing sound. Large presence. It is easy to get lost in the world of sound with this pair.

Everyone has different tastes. If you want to buy these headphones, try them out yourself. I feel they are well worth the $249, which is a rare opinion from me.

Great sound, terrible bluetooth, tolerable with audio, horrible with video.

    • Written by from Summer Hill

Good sound. Nice design. Terrible Bluetooth.

Hit 'play' and there's a delay of several seconds before the sound starts. A couple of seconds of audio have been discarded. When the audio starts, it lags behind the source by about a second. The headphones catch up with the video source progressively over a few minutes. Switch to a different movie and you're back to square 1 with a couple of lost seconds and the delay.

I have another pair of bluetooth headphones which don't do this at all - so it's definitely in the Harman Kardons, not in the iPad/iPhone or bluetooth in general.

They often stop playing. Sometimes they trigger a pause in the iPad/iPhone and you can just hit the play button to start again. Sometimes they just go silent but the iPad/IPhone is still going and you have to go back to replay it. Sometimes they literally power themselves down and you have to power them back up again (the battery is not low).

When you power them up they play a little melody so you know to take your finger off the power button (else they go into pairing mode). That melody is so quiet that if you're in the city area (or a noisy cafe) you won't hear it.

As another reviewer wrote, any contact with the headphones makes an incredibly loud noise in your ears. If you bump them with your hand, if you brush them against anything when getting off a train, reaching into a cupboard, or anything, it's the audio equivalent of being struck with a baseball bat.

It's amazing that Harman Kardon allow this product go out the door with their name on it. I doubt I'll buy anything from them again. Once bitten, as they say.

    Good sound, VERY uncomfortable

The sound is great and they look amazing. However, they are painful to wear for me any longer than 30 minutes. I lent these to some of my friends and they also have the same problem. I was able to MacGyver the problem by bending the metal band out more though.

Great Audio but Poor Construction and the Worst BT Ever

These headphones look fantastic - they are hands down the coolest looking BT headphones on the market. When they work, they work great. Audio is superior, even to an audiophile like me. However, getting them to play music is a constant challenge. I'm not sure if it's the BT connectivity or what, but as other people have described in their reviews, music will just STOP after about ten minutes for no reason at all. And when a song starts there's a horrible sync issue that cuts off the first 15 seconds. This is really unacceptable performance as far as I'm concerned, considering the price. I've tried the Parrot BT headphones, and they work like a breeze. I will be exchanging mine tonight.

I recently purchased these to replace some beats wireless but nearly as many issues. Good sound quality but, if you touch anything against the plastic cups sounds like a kettle drum therefore no good in bed unless you are perfectly still. Any contact with the cord also produced a large amount of noise.

These headphones are great looking, and the wireless connectivity works really well, but audiophile-pleasers they are not. You can get much better sound quality for the money.

I bought the headphones yesterday ... I cannot believe this. I just paid $250 for a pair of headphone and it wont connect to my MBP. C'mon this is ridiculous ! Also, the users manual is horrible. Doesnt tell you nothing. At least if it's not going to work the way we think it should, include a manual so that we can figure it out. I am returning thiem and will be buying the BOSE with cable ... I would be ZERO stars but seems I can't !!!!

Poor performance and unreliab make this set of headphones not worth it

I bought this product excited because it had two things I was looking for: style and function. While the style is pretty cool, the function is terrible. The headphones don't seem to charge properly, and the Bluetooth connectivity is unreliable at best. I turn the headphones on and they will not connect the Bluetooth. I turn them off in an attempt to reconnect, and the headphones will not power back on. I put the phones on a charger and let them charge, and after a while they seem to turn back on. It does not seem to be a battery issue, it seems to be a simply poor made product. I would not waste $250 on these headphones, and I will be returning mine as soon as feasibly possible. If you're looking for a good set of Bluetooth phones look somewhere else. It's either that, or perhaps I just got a bad pair; But for a $250 pair of headphones there should be no such thing as a bad pair, Buy at your own risk.

They are $100 ok not $250 ok. The range is not far, can't get it to lip sync with video and I get about one dropout per song. But the most annoying thing... Anything that touches or brushes up against the hard plastic ear-cup resonated through the audio, this also goes for any kind of exercise. I think that they will get it right eventually but right now I can do better for less.

I really like the sound quality. That's all the good I can say. For some reason on both my iphone 5 and iphone 4s the sound just stops. If i pause and play the music it will start again for about 20 or 30 mins then fail again. Also, when one song ends and the other begins it seems to have a sync issue. I really like these things when it works. Not sure if its worth $250. Trading in for Klipsch Mode M40 Noise Canceling Headphones.

Overpriced Garbage - Uncomfortable - User Unfriendly - Good Sound

    • Written by from Forestdale

These have good sound, not great, a little bit over glorified. Bass becomes muddy at high levels and I think I can hear the voice coils scrape on certain low frequencies. The Mid-range seems ok and the high end seems a little bit too loud at times. The sound changed when you move them around and if you wear glasses, you will hear less bass. I tried both headbands and this is the most uncomfortable headphones I ever. After about 5min the foam collapses and the outer edge of your ear get stabbed by the hard part on the inside of the headphones. You could simply cut off your ears to get a perfect fit, but I want to keep my ears intact. The quality of materials used is plainly seen to me as some sort of recycled garbage that was on hand at the factory in china. These have the smell of smoke, lead and something else.... I think its cadmium or low level uranium. They are heavy enough. I also had trouble with the hardware "crashing" and I had to plug the charging cord back in to reset it. I bought a pair of $29 headphones from newegg that are more comfortable and have almost as good sound as these do. hardly / komfortable

    Great Headphones from Harmon/Kardon

These headphones are tuned perfectly. They Are very nice on mine and friends ears. The only part which is annoying is where there is 2.4GHZ WIFI, these headphones on bluetooth pick up a little interference. But this is easily over come by using the AUX or headphones cable. The big ear cups also keep lots of noise out.
    These headphones Don't not disappoint.

Harman... No questions asked... i thought.... but hugely disaapointed.

Am exchanging it for the 3 rd hird time in a span of 2 months. The bluetooth refuses to charge.

The tiny red light goes off within 5 minutes after i put them to charging. I tried on my laptop as well as in a plug socket but to no avail.

Planning to exchange it now for Zik.....

I bought them on the base of the brand reputation and the well positioned price. Whilst the sound is of good quality, you can hear a lot of noises. if you touch slightly the headphones with anything or if you use the cable and touch it , you will ear them a lot. Equally, you can still hear someone talking nearby whist the music is on with good volume !! the button that you have to press for 2 seconds to turn it on and off as well as to pause is difficult to set right. i was so disappointed that i brought them back and exchange to another premium brand

It not suitable if you walk or under a warmer climate like Sydney

    • Written by from Rose Bay

I wanted to use this headphone to listen to music while walking. This was impossible for two reasons:
    1. A very laud rattling noise while walking.
    2. The leather over-ear piece does not ventilate and the sweating is quite uncomfortable.
I had to return it to the Bondi shop for a full refund.

    Excellent audio, Bluetooth issues/design flaws

    • Written by from San Francisco

13 of 14 people found this useful

First off, I'm using this headset in the same room no further than 15ft away from audio source. PRO: Excellent audio clarity, clear vocal, clean sufficient heavy bass. Comparable to Shure in-ear E215. CON: with iOS 6.0.1 on my iPhone 4S, skipping/progression to every next song creates split-second skip/split-second repeat of beginning of song, FREQUENT delay (audio fast-forward to catch up) and dropped audio while playing a song requiring pressing play/pause button to resume play. With iOS 6.0.1 on 4gen iPad, FREQUENT audio silences while playing songs, disrupted signal while iPad cover is closed and my body is in between headphones and iPad. DESIGN FLAWS: My 3yr old cheap ($75) Plantronic/AltecLansing BT headphones have NONE of these BT issues! I have a more-medium/large-sized head. Should provide mid-sized metal headband (big is TOO loose, default small is too tight), no audio feedback when in BT connection mode, no audio up/down feedback, no dedicated forward/backward buttons (enough space on headset for these), not enough padding. SUMMARY: Very buggy Bluetooth/connectivity issues comparing to cheap headphones from 3yrs ago. Persuaded to return these despite excellent audio quality. Does not live up to Harman/Kardon's name. A big let down since sold exclusively by Apple and if it's an iOS 6 issue, even worse. It doesn't matter that these are Harman/Kardon's first BT headphones. They need to look at what other less expensive headphones can do and do a better job. I find the issues unacceptable. Apple, please listen.

Great Value but only Good, Not Great Overall

    • Written by from Los Angeles

13 of 14 people found this useful

I've been looking for that 'perfect' pair of wireless, bluetooth headphones for the last few months, and I've tried them all (except for the Denon AH-NCW500).

As with my review of the Parrot Zik, I'll be short and to the point:

(please note, my reviews are based on using these as wireless headphones / Headsets - all sets I've tested can be used with a wire, but that's not the point of buying a wireless set)

    PROS:
    - They are a great value for the money. (meaning you get a lot of headphone for under the $400 range)
    - They link up via BT very quickly and stay connected well, few to no drops
    - The band on the top of the head is very comfortable, to the point where you almost forget it is there
    - Most of the materials 'feel' high-end
    - The sound quality is very good, crisp, well balanced and "fills" your head
    - Battery life was actually very good compared to other bluetooth headphones in this price range

    CONS:
    - Believe it or not, I found the square shape to be cumbersome. I have a slightly larger head than average and I felt that the edges of the pads were squeezing my ears as opposed to cupping them
    - Although the top of the band was very comfortable, the tightness was felt at the top point of the ears, where the swivel joint was located - high pressure point
    - Lack of control for the overall sound was disappointing

(to be fair, I am only making this comment, because the Parrot Zik give you so much control over the sound, that not having this same level of control for the HK BT's feels like it's missing something)

    - The control buttons on the side of the cups were the only disappointment when it came to the build and material, the buttons felt cheap and plastic and like they might break if pushed too hard

If I had never tried the parrot zik, I may have kept the HK BT, but the quality of sound was just not there. I'd rather spend the additional $140 dollars and keep the zik's over the HK just for the sound.

    Thanks.

    Massive quality and design issues

    • Written by from Bondi

4 of 4 people found this useful

Quality Issues :- I had 2 pair of these over-the-ear bluetooth headphones. The first had construction issues where the supports of the ear pieces rattled against the frame of the headband. The rattling noise was enormous and made walking and listening (at the same time) an unpleasurable experience! This first unit was immediately replaced at the Apple Store with a pair that malfunctioned (died) in less than 2 weeks. I returned these for a refund.

Design Issues :- firstly the bluetooth indicator light that shows whether the unit is on, off or discoverable is in the button that turns the unit on/off/makes-discoverable. So it is not possible to see what the unit is doing unless you have a set of nails longer that what would be considered normal for the average man.
Secondly the leather over-ear design does not work in a country that has temperatures over 15C. If your in Sydney or warmer then think sweat - lots of it. The material does not breathe.
