    Update has a bug

    Basically they used to work fine and since the latest update they don't respond with the network. Even if you get them setup it seems the wifi on the plugs turns itself off after a certain amount of time and then they are undiscoverable. Belkin need to change this back quick or a lot of people are buying really expensive pieces of plastic. Revert back to the old update settings and give us that as an update or sort it out properly

    I have 4 of the Wemo Switches and they dont work properly, period. cant find it on the network, stops working, stops responding, etc etc.

    This needs to be overhauled.

    Worked great for a few months. Then with a new firmware install I have not been able to find or setup ANY of the four devices I had working fine before. Their solution? Reset. I did this on all four devices and everyone fails and says "lost connection" during setup. Once that is done, you have to do a reset again because the app will never find a device. I have done this about 10 times now and not a single decide works. These are not ready for primetime. The most frustrating junk I have ever used.

    The world according to Belkin

    Just received this WeMo switch and have tried to set it up. ...BUT it will not connect to a network where the WPA pass phrase contains spaces. You get an error advising you of this.

    Come on Belkin, you really have to be kidding me. I teach Grade 6 students who learn that adding spaces to a pass phrase is good practise because it increases the password permutations and therefore reduces vulnerability to hacking. Belkin you need to get your engineers to go rejoin Grade 6 and learn about how WPA works!

    This is not the first time in several years that I have purchased a Belkin product to find that it is non-standard and will not work with non-Belkin (or even other Belkin) devices.

    I am certainly not going to re-configure the other 46 wifi devices on my network to remove the spaces from the network pass phrase. This Belkin device is going back for a refund. In future I will avoid Belkin products.

    I purchased a WeMo Remote light switch - worked fine until I had to upgrade my wifi 3 months later - now cannot connect and is totally useless!! I have spent so much time trying to fix the problem that i feel like throwing it in the fire!!

    Utter Junk!

    Like most people who've written a review, I had nothing but trouble from these since I bought them. I bought 2 and they wouldn't join my network, constantly disconnected and generally caused me angst. Resetting does nothing helpful. Since buying them I've moved house so I lost receipts etc so no chance to return them. The only pleasure they gave me was when I destroyed them with a hammer!

    Apple need to look at this product and decide if it meets Steve Jobs's credo of "it just works". In this case, it doesn't.

    lasted 30 days without event, then refused to talk to wifi, after 45 min of trouble shooting pitched it in the trash!! Don't waste your money or time.

    Worst. Product. Ever.

    I figured that seeing this at an Apple store would lend some credibility to the value of the product, but not so. It has undocumented network requirements that render it useless unless they are met. They can only be found by extensive searching. Even then it's a long shot as to whether the thing will STAY working. Hopefully if you buy this product, your power will never go out, since trying to get it to work after disconnecting the power is a nightmare.

    Great idea, flawed implementation. This is being returned ASAP.

    took a while to set it up to make the wifi control work. However, 4G remote never worked. don't want to just through $50 in garbage can. will try to return, even I kind of broke the package.

    WeMo Blow

    Product didn't work from start. Because I received a couple of gift cards from Apple for buy iPads, I decided to try this product, even with the bad reviews. I should have know better. If a product has almost the same amount of 5 stars as 1 stars, you know it is junk. If you want to waste $50, then you should buy this product, but suggest going elsewhere and purchasing the same thing through a more reputable company, Belkin makes great surge protectors, but apparently know very little about wifi.

    Great Idea But Extremely Dissatisfied

    I'll keep this short and sweet. Before bringing a product like this to market, you would assume Belkin had thoroughly tested it. However, based on the difficulty connecting the device to a wireless network and the countless times I reset the switch, it seems they did not. This product is barely mediocre. Hopefully someone else will do it better.

    Do not buy this

    This product is terrible and Belkin's support is non-existent. Why Apple has allowed this into their store is confusing.

    First experience is that the item requires a software update. Except when one goes to update it the product it is 'bricked' and needs a hardware reset. After the reset the stupid thing asks for a SW update again and the cycle continues.

    Do not buy this product.

    Nice idea. Poor implementation.

    If you're lucky and your network matches certain arcane criteria, this product will set up fairly easily.

    It is so easy, however, to run into arbitrary conflicts between your wifi network and the WeMo's limitations, and end up spending hours of time debugging those issues, or simply give up and chuck the WeMo in a drawer and forget about it.

    I love the idea, hate the implementation.

    TRied 2 devices now, it just doesn't connect to tour wifi network, and I'm using a state of the art latest Apple time capsule router. All Belkin support is saying, try again. Good luck.

    Horrible Support, poorly designed software

    Bought several WeMo switcheds set them up and worked fine.

    Upgraded my wireless access point. Reset Wemo's and set them up again. Can now only control them via external network, not on local wireless net, although no errors in the setup of the devices. No devices are found locally after setup, just hangs.

    Made numerous calls to support, and paid for Belkin Premium support. Have never reached anyone knowledgable about WeMo's. Only receive repetitive e-mails asking me to repeat the things I have already done.

    Research on the net indicated that Belkin stores info about the Wireless access point the device is associated with initially on their servers. If you change the access point name it cannot be updated on their servers by the consumer.

    You are also unable to reach anyone at Belkin to reset or correct the info. Am the not so proud owner of three semi-useless bricks call WeMo now....

    Based on the support experience I have stopped by Belkin products as a rule..

    New password restriction renders useless

    I just had to reset my device, and now find I can no longer connect it to the network it was connected to before for months because, after firmware/app updates, the WeMo app now refuses passwords with spaces in it.

    I'm not changing the password on all the untold other devices in the house because Belkin's engineers are incompetent, so I guess this gets tossed in the bin. Avoid -- even if this doesn't affect you, you can't rely on them not breaking something else at some point.

    Be aware also that its wifi reception is not great -- I've had it fail to connect in the past in areas where my cell phone is getting a medium-level 3 bar signal.

    I really don't know how this has such a high rating here. I have owned two of the Belkin WeMo switches. Connection is a nightmare. Nothing more fun than waiting and waiting and waiting to have these things either not be able to find a network or join a network. As a former Apple employee with network certification I do know how to set up a robust network in a home. I have great signal strength over at my neighbors house but with these Belkin switches it is hit or miss at best. Once you have one plugged, assuming you can it to be functional, never ever unplug it again. Never change any setting and never have a power outage. If you do you will find yourself spending hours trying to get the thing working again. Seriously don't bother buying this piece of plastic junk.
    Additionally these things are huge. They pretty much cover up a duplex outlet and make a quad gang outlet with access to one outlet and you better have a pretty tiny plug to use for that outlet. Of course this troglodyte design problem only matters if you can get the switch to connect and then become functional, which is unlikely. Or you can do what I do and just leave them unplugged in the hopes that someday Belkin will get there act together, rewrite their lousy software, and upload a firmware fix that does actually fix this piece of junk.

    Works sporadically at best!

    It could be so good, but isn't. After many attempts to get the switch working, several switch restores, several phone and router resets, I managed to get it working. It worked fine until I quit the app and started it again, then it couldn't find my switch. I set it all up again, (same issues as before), worked fine for a few minutes but same issue arose when I quit the app. I tried everything the troubleshooting guide said, Googled the issue only to find out that it is a widespread issue so returned it for a refund.

    Badly limited device due to Belkin's short sighted thinking

    WeMo could be phenomenal. It could be a switch you could trigger via hotkey on your Mac, but it isn't. It could be a switch you could teach your universal remote to trigger. But it isn't.

    Instead, WeMo is a switch you trigger using an iPhone app. It sounds like a neat idea at first, but once you've used it, you realize how annoying it is.

    If you want to use WeMo for a lamp, you're better off buying Philips Hue light bulbs. With Hue, you can use Mac apps, iOS apps, or you can write your own code. The API is open. I created hotkeys on my Mac that turn my Hue lights on in various settings (plus 'off' of course) and I use BetterTouchTool to map those keys into my Apple Remote. In other words, remote control for my lights. SWEET! Ah, but I can't do any of that for WeMo because it never occurred to Belkin that a phone might not be the best way to access a switch.

    Don't expect Mac apps for WeMo any time soon. Belkin specifically states that users and developers may not "Copy, decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble, attempt to derive the source code of, modify, decrypt, or create derivative works of the API and its parts" ...in other words, the best you're going to get with WeMo is an iOS app. Do you really want to have to go get your phone and then scroll through apps to turn on a switch?

    Even the hardware is trash. It's a big bulky 1980's looking switch that takes up so much physical space. It uses one outlet and blocks the other because it's so big and poorly designed.

    WeMo is garbage. Maybe five to ten years from now, Belkin will try again. All I can say is that the hardware is cheap, the software is insanely limited, and the functionality is needlessly poor. I'd give WeMo zero stars if that were an option.
