Is there any metal-to-metal contact between the shelf and the stand?
My thought here is that if there is, the stand would act as an extended heat sink. I currently place my external drive (which has an aluminum enclosure) on the base of the stand, but would like to get it up and out of the way without losing the added cooling effect the stand provides.

There is no metal-to-metal contact between the BackPack and the iMac - that means no scratching either. The part of the BackPack that actually touches the iMac stand are hard plastic Fit Clips (5 are included for different size iMacs).

Answer
You mean Time Capsule, right?
By weight, yes.
According to the Twelve South website the max weight it can hold is 2230 grams (5 pounds).
TC current model weighs 1587 grams (3.5 pounds). Well under that.
By size, should do.
Shelf dimensions are 178 mm (7 inches) x 114 mm (4.5 inches).
TC current model dimensions are 197 mm (7.7 inches) square. So should fit with overhang on the shorter side of about 81 mm (3.2 inches), i.e. more weight on the shelf than hanging off it.
...says you can have 2 of these as well, though the pix show the shelf in three positions, so you may even get away with 3. Pretty good, though pricy for a shelf!- Answered by James S

can you use more than one?
I have a few hard drives that I would like to "hide." What would the maximum be?
- Asked by Andrew L from Hatfield

Answer
Yes, you can. The height is adjustable, so according to the product page, you can fit two on the back. However, because you are storing hard drives, keep in mind that they need to 'breathe' to stay cool, or their life expectancy will go down. Also, keep in mind that if you use the hole in the display stand for routing wires, the wires may interfere with your storage abilities. So, I would say that two is the max, just because there isn't tons of vertical clearance. But, the shelves can hold 5 pounds, so you can stack the drives on top of each-other no problem!
