In order to use my iphoneMust I remove my phone from the wallet for use or does the phone face outside the case?

Yes, the iPhone5 will fit. I have a Speck Candyshell Grip case on my phone and it does fit. It's snug but it fits.

There are several compartments. One fits the phone and there are other areas for cards and cash. It's not super roomy for coins or keys but I really like the size and design.
