Which Printers are compatible with Mountain Lion?
I just upgraded to Mountain Lion. The printer I have is not compatible with the new operating system. Which printers are compatible with Mountain Lion?

Answer
I don't know if there is a compatibility list. Plus, printers that are not compatible can be made compatible once an updated driver (or installer) is released... so what was incompatible last month, may be compatible now.
Sometimes, one can make a printer work with a new OS, by changing the way the installation occurs. (I have four old printers with ethernet connections. I purchased two of the printers when I was still running OS 9. They were supposedly not "supported" after OS 10.4, but I was able to install manually in Mountain Lion after days of trial and error. Each printer cost several thousand dollars so the effort was justified.) For another printer, I had to wait months before the manufacturer released an updated driver. Until the driver was released, whenever I went to the manufacturer's site (Canon), it said to expect a new Mountain Lion driver sometime in the next 18 months.
Try doing one or both of the following:
1) do an internet search with keywords: "your printer model" "driver" and "Mountain Lion". There may be an updated print driver or installer available.
2) repost your question here, but this time ask "How to Install Printer with Mountain Lion?". Provide details about your printer such as Make, Model, and what types of connections it has such as USB and/or Ethernet.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

Can an external hard drive storing information from a PC be connected to a Mac?

Answer
Yes, but you can't write to the drive or create files on the drive if it is formatted with NTFS. The only operating systems that can write to NTFS are Windows and Linux. Reading files from the drive will work.

Can I use boot camp to run windows 7 on my macbook pro and display it on my iMac?
I need to run windows instead of OSX, mostly because of the windows specific apps that I am stuck with.
But I would like to use a thunderbolt cable to pipe the display onto my 23" iMac screen.
So either I buy a PC laptop and some HDMI to thunderbolt electronics, or a Macbook pro and dual boot in Windows 7.
Firstly, is this even possible and which is the better option?
Secondly, does my iMac need to be on for me to do this?- Asked by Roy T

Don't dual boot, just use VMARE Fusion on the iMac and/or MacBook to run the Windows applications within OS-X. After having used Parallels for a couple years I discovered Fusion provides a lot better performance and transparent integration. It also has the advantage of running a Windows virtual machine much better within OS-X in addition to Windows applications.
Depending on which model iMac you have, you might be able to use Target Display Mode to use the iMac as a monitor for another device.

iWork is definitely cheaper, only 20 bucks each (you can choose which to buy separately on the Mac App Store) for Pages (Word) Keynote (Powerpoint) and Numbers (Excel). They can also save in the microsoft office formats, but you shouldn't rely on that too much, since there can be a few changes when you open them up on the pcs. Pages also has different types of, well, pages. Envelopes, resumes, brochures, etc. Overall, iWork is a lot more simpler.
However, if you are a die hard Microsoft fan, and you couldn't figure out a single button without Word, etc., or you would do a LOT of interchanging between mac and PC, go with Office. I do mostly printing, in which case any "changes" don't bother me.
The mac app store has a pdf to iWork converter, called PDF2Office SE for iWork, if you want.- Answered by Nikko S from Florence

I think you are confused about what Parallels is. Parallels is a Mac program that lets you emulate Windows (and, because of that, Windows programs) inside of Mac OSX. This is helpful if you are in a workplace that uses Windows and you need compatibility.
Another thing you might of meant is, "Do I have to buy Windows and Office for Parallels?". (Word is included in Office.) The answer to that is yes. You need a retail copy of either Vista or 7 to run inside of Parallels. Then you buy Office to run in Windows.
If you are getting Parallels just to run Office, then stop right there. Microsoft makes a wonderful version of Office for Mac that offers full functionality. Another option altogether is to dump Microsoft and get Apple's alternative, iWork. Although I personally have never used it, I know for a fact that it has no issues with any Office filetypes.
I hope I helped!- Answered by Joseph R from Puyallup

HP has Mac drivers for it on their site you can download to use with the iMac, no problem at all. It should also ask you if you want to download those drivers the first time you plug it in.

What is the differnce between the Apple LED Cinema Display (27" flat panel) and the Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch)?
I have a 2010 MacbbokPro without Thunderbolt.
Questions:
- Does the Thunderbolt port provide superior data transfer rates to the other ports? I presume the answer is "yes"
- If in future I upgrade to a new MacbookPro with Thunderbolt, can the Cinema Display (currently with only USB ports) also be upgraded to accept Thunderbolt? I suspect the answer is "no"- Asked by Rajiv C

You cannot use a Thunderbolt display with a non-Thunderbolt Mac.
If you do not have a Thunderbolt equipped Mac, do not buy the Thunderbolt display. I recently bought an MBA (with Tbolt) and the Thunderbolt display, not realizing that the display is completely, 100% incompatible with the recent but not thunderbolt equipped MacBook Pro I also have.- Answered by Edward C from New York
