Will I be able to use 1TB for backing up my computer using Time Machine and the remaining 1TB for Movies, Photos etc.?

Yes you can use disk utility to create two partitions use one for time machine the other for your movies etc. Call them what you want.

Yes, I do this exact same thing. I used disk utility to create one partition that is 50% larger than my internal drive to be used with Time Machine, and I use the rest for video capture / scratch drives and for pictures.

I have not created any partition. I simply use the 4TM My Book as a Raid 1 set up Time Machine. I then also use normal drag and drop to copy those files such as photos and music that I want to ensure I will not lose in the event of a Time Machine failure. I can then access these photos and music files from any computer I connect to in the future. The Raid 0 setup could be used in the same way.
