Which is better, Imac vs macbook for photoshop and lightroom and everyday photography

I am considering the 27" imac 2gb graphics but what keeps me thinking is if i should rather get a macbook pro 17" 1gb for portability....which serves better for a photographer?

  • I have a 17" 2.3GHz i7 MacBook Pro with 16GB or RAM (purchased for $100) and the 1GB AMD card. I do a lot of video transcoding, and this thing absolutely flies. I would love to have an iMac 27" for the extra screen real estate, but I like being able to switch between standing up and sitting down - and being able to take the MacBook with me wherever I am.

    You probably won't see much of a difference between the two, besides the screen size. I would personally stick with the MacBook Pro. TONS of I/O on this beast.
