I got the iPhone 5 4 months ago and this cable that I received with my phone doesn't work anymore. The cable I had with my iPhone I got the iPhone 5 4 months ago and this cable that I received with my phone doesn't work anymore. The cable I had with my iPhone 4, I had for 2 years with no problems at all. So I find it very strange that the lighting cord can stop working so easily. Even the cord for my first generation iPod touch which is 6 years old and it still works. Now I have to go buy another cord and spend more money to keep using my phone. I hope the issue gets fixed soon because I don't want to keep buying new lighting cords every 4 months. …

I've gone through three different lightning cords in the four months I've had my iPhone 5. All three have inexplicably stopped working. Each has gotten a short in the cord where it meets the lightning end though I've been careful to leave them straight, treat them gently (especially since the first failed). With my current cord, I have to hold the lightning end of the cord in a certain direction to get it to work.
On top of that, when it happens to short out, it interferes with the electric current, disabling linked ports. i.e. when it shorts out in any of my computers' USB ports, the other ports become inactive as well (disabling my external hard drive and USB mouse); when it is plugged in a charger with multiple outputs, the other outputs become inactive as well.
After buying several chargers, three iPods, three iPhones, and an iPad, I had amassed ten of the old 30-pin connectors. All ten work just as well as they did when I brought them home; I took it for granted that I never had an issue with any of them. …

Incapable of charging to a certain degree, durability > special features

Normal use or not, a charger should be able to withstand all of that. If that were the case, the iphone would be a breeze to use. I should not have to handle a charger with such delicacy and high maintainence. I really hope Apple steps up their game, start to care less about aesthetics (although, it is nice) and more on the chargers durability. I'd much rather have an unattractive phone with a good working charger, than a phone with a charger incapable of charging. In all honesty, I still love apple and appreciate their ability to make futuristic looking products. However, I'm really starting to consider android and/or other products. Already on my 6th charger and tired of having to buy another every few months. …

I seem to be very lucky -- other people report their Lightning cables becoming unusable after as little as a month, whereas mine s I seem to be very lucky -- other people report their Lightning cables becoming unusable after as little as a month, whereas mine seem to last 3-4 months. Which is still appalling. But at least our local Apple reseller is willing to replace them. And I hear that Apple stores replace them no-questions-asked. It's still a shame that such high quality phones and tablets are let down by such terrible cables. …
