Back up a lifetime’s worth of memories with AirPort Time Capsule, a wireless hard drive that works seamlessly with Time Machine in OS X. It’s also a fully featured Wi-Fi base station with the latest 802.11ac technology and simultaneous dual-band support. Choose from 2TB and 3TB models. Learn more about AirPort Time Capsule

  • Automatic wireless backup.

AirPort Time Capsule includes a 2TB or 3TB hard drive that works with Time Machine in OS X to create the perfect no-hassle backup solution.1 There are no cables, and you can back up all the Mac computers in your home to a central location — automatically, wirelessly, and in the background.

    Ultra-fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

With 802.11ac technology and a powerful beamforming antenna array, AirPort Time Capsule gives you up to 3x faster Wi-Fi and a stronger, clearer signal.2 And because it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest performance possible.

    Designed with performance in mind.

With the antennas at the top of the elevated design, AirPort Time Capsule now has a higher platform for dispersing the signal. We also increased the number of antennas. There are now six of them — three for the 2.4GHz band and three for the 5GHz band. Together with 802.11ac technology, they let you connect faster, farther, and with more power than ever before.

Easy setup for iOS and OS X.

Connect your DSL or cable modem to AirPort Time Capsule and use the built-in setup assistant to create your new wireless network in just a few taps from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. If you’re using a Mac, use the built-in AirPort Utility. Setup is just as fast and just as easy.

Share your hard drive or printer.

AirPort Time Capsule can turn any external USB hard drive into a secure drive you can share across your Wi-Fi network. So all the documents, videos, photos and other files instantly become available to anyone, Mac and PC users alike. You can even connect a printer and share it wirelessly.

    Compatibility and security.

Any Wi-Fi device you have will work with AirPort Time Capsule. That’s because it’s compatible with devices using the 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n and 802.11ac specifications. And since AirPort Time Capsule features a built-in firewall that protects your network from malicious Internet attacks, you can enjoy the web with peace of mind.

I've tried many different brands / top of the line wifi routers to try and reach my TV/PS3 in a (wifi unfriendly) nook in my living room, only to return them since I would get no signal there. Only luck I've had is with my upgraded FIOS wifi router, but the signal is marginal at best. I ended up using a power line AV adapter to get a decent signal without having to wire ethernet.
Well I hooked up my new time capsule (directly next to my existing router) and tried it out just for fun in that location, not expecting to see anything. I got a FULL signal there...450 mbps connection. Did an internet speed test (I have the 50 mbps FIOS plan) - clocked at 45 mbps! My previous (and best) router got 5 mbps at best there...typically more like 1 - 2. VERY pleasantly surprised with this routers performance and range, so needless to say it has completely replaced my old router in addition to being a great backup drive.

I figure I purchased the AirPort Time Capsule with increased range in mind, as I don't have any devices that support 102.11ac yet. I figured the additional antennas and new configuration would improve the range, and so far that seems to be the case. I was previously using a 1 TB Time Capsule, 102.11n, and devices in the back bedroom (about 100-125 feet away, around several corners) struggled to get a good signal.

I did several tests in the back corner of the back bedroom on my iPhone 5 (Speedtest.net app) before and after the upgrade. I have a 50+ MBPS connection. The average before the upgrade was 3.5 MPBS down and 0.75 MBPS up. After the upgrade, I averaged 7.5 MBPS down and 8.25 MPBS up. That is about 2x boost in speed down and 10x boost in speed up. Because I am still using the 102.11n technology, I believe that these speed increases are due to the improvement in range.

Using it as my base station with two Airport Express, three Airplay-capable sound systems and numerous mobile devices (plus a Desktop) attached, I see way better throughput on the 5 GHz band than with my prior Airport Extreme. I have no problems constantly reaching 105+ Mbit/s connection speeds with this product. The hard disk is easily mounted and shows fast and reliable transfer speeds. Thumbs up, Apple.

At first it did not give a great coverage, until `i turned off the wifi on the ISP's router which then the wifi service improved 100%. I also made the wifi SSID very simple with a more powerful password since then the WIFI and TC has been powered up all the time with backups from both my macs to it no problem. `i have since removed the back up of my desktop to a separate USB connected hard drive, because for a desktop this is a better option. A second hard drive is used to keep all my movies as a hard drive, I am able to stream 3d from my Air to TV using this as a source, with no buffering problems, first class product, People forget that WIFI is not a guaranteed speed all the time, but I am delighted.

Let's just say that not only I am happy but my daughters are happy too. We have great coverage and speed throughout the house. Devices include iMac, Macbook, two iPod touches, three iPads and two Apple TV's. Great product and I highly recommend, next step is set up time machine,

However, running backups are glacially and annoyingly slow. Wish I bought a device I can simply plug directly into the Mac and backup from there.
Also, the device hangs up regularly and needs to be restarted.
Maybe mine is just a Monday's machine, but wouldn't buy it again.
