Flicker, sporadic issues...
Major issues...
First, when I plugged it into my brand new 2008 Macbook Pro I got a message saying that the USB device drew too much power! I did manage to make it work by plugging it into my monitor's USB hub, but wow...
Secondly, there is a slight flicker. You can see it clearly with certain kinds of backgrounds and fill patterns. It almost looks like the kind of noise you get with analog, except it's DVI. It's not a severe problem, but *any* flicker with DVI is ridiculous.
Finally, sometimes it just fails. The screen will go all weird, and you have to reset it. Again, it looks like an analog failure mode except it's not...
I'm going to wait a bit and then trying exchanging my adaptor at the Apple store. Maybe there are issues with the first-run units.
Apple really botched this one. Dongles are bad enough, but overpriced broken ones... come on guys...

Flaky performance
I had to plug and unplug my monitor several times before it worked and even now the monitor won't wake up from sleep! Sometimes wh en it does come up it flickers and has jaggies. I have to unplug the DVI and plug it back in to get it to stop. I never had any issues at all with this monitor on my old MBP. The size of this thing it HUGE, I can't believe they couldn't make it smaller. Literally about 3x4 inches! Feels like they released a poor product AND they did it LATE! …

Works reliably after 2 years of usage but has a bug
I have been using this adaptor for 2 years to connect my Mac Air to a Dell U2711 27-inch display. The connector is needed to dri ve the display at its high resolution native mode. The connector has worked reliably except that, every once in a while, the display shows static white noise. The problem disappears after I unplug the display's dvi port from the adapter and plug it again. I honestly do not know if this is an adapter problem or a display problem, but some other reviewer has also commented having this problem when using his adapter, so I suspect that it must be a problem with the adapter. The problem, although annoying, hasn't been serious enough for me to diagnose it further. …

Died after 4 months
I read the negative reviews of the adapter... but having a 30 inch cinema display I need to use with my Retina MacBook Pro, there weren't a lot of options.
Worked fine until... yesterday when I came back to my desk and my system had shut down due to a kernel panic. Joy, upon reboot discovered that all my email accounts were wiped out. 3 hours later after restoring MacOS and all my data from backups i discovered it was the DVI Adapter that failed and caused the panic. I do not own a mac mini but I have seen this done many times in retail stores that want to show off the versatility of such a small desktop. The mac mini has two video outputs: a mini-display port and a mini-DVI port. The mini-display port is the same one you find on the current generation macbook, macbook pros (as well as the Mac Pro) and the Mini-DVI is the same as the on the old black/white macbook. I do not know why apple decided to go with two different adapter types but it works just the same as you will need two separate adapters to use two displays anyway. From there, you just buy two "dongles" (display adapters) which hook up to your respective screen input jacks (VGA or DVI) and you're set! …

The method will depend on your desired configuration.
Do you want to show the same thing on both external monitors (either cloned desktop or extended desktop)? Then you need a signal multiplier/Distribution Amplifier (DVI DA or VGA DA). I am happy to report that I was able to connect 2 adapters to attach to Dell Cinema monitors (2650 x 1600 each) to my Macbook Pro.
Note that each adapter needs a USB port which meant the second adapter had to use a USB port on the right hand side of my MBP. Fortunately, the y-shape part of the adapter is long enough to reach the USB on the right side.
Also, I can use the built-in monitor for a total of 3 screens. I am using the set-up for mostly browsing and highly text based app so I cannot vouch how the set-up might operate with low latency apps such as games running high-res and fast changing graphics. …- Answered by Mehran S from Miami
