Great battery (and don't forget to calibrate)

On "Better Battery Life" I routinely get close to five hours of battery life (while using it)!

New Apple batteries, those included with a machine and those bought separately, arrive partially charged and need to be calibrated. This procedure provides a baseline for the processor built into the battery, so the processor can effectively regulate power consumption. To calibrate your battery, first plug in the laptop and charge the battery to 100 percent capacity; the light at the end of the Apple-supplied power cable will go from orange to green when the battery is fully charged. Next, unplug the power adapter and let the battery run down. The machine will put itself to sleep and refuse to wake up. Plug the adapter in again and fully recharge the battery. (You can use the laptop as you normally would during the calibration process.) You need to calibrate the battery only once. Source: Laptop Battery Smarts, Mobile Mac More

    Another dirty little secret

This battery has a very short life and at $129 is a heist. It never lasted even 3 hours and now that I've installed Tiger I'm lucky to get 30 minutes. The discussion boards show that this is a widespread problem. Apple has some explaining to do. More

I was lucky to get 3.5 hours out of this battery when it was brand new. A year or so later and I get a half an hour tops.

Getting ready purchase a second replacement battery since original purchase in 2006. So I'm, in effect, averaging a new battery every 1.2 years. Not good!! More

I am on my 2ond battery. I am a non-savvy computer owner and i tried to refill the battery completely then drain it completely but i am at 14% energy and it's not getting any higher. I guess i am not very good and the battery as well!! Here's to constant plug ins and tape to keep the plug in!! it's nice to hear i am not the only one! More

    Practically worthless

I have to say as much as I hate to write a negative review, I simply can't avoid it. I have had my battery since it was replaced through the warranty about 2 years ago. Most of the time I didn't even have the battery connected to the computer as I was using it as a desktop with separate monitor.

Knowing it would be a good idea to keep the battery charged, I would connect it to the PB, run it down and then charge it up. I did this about once a month.

Low and behold I received a new iMac for my birthday and started using the PB as it's main intended purpose....a portable. Well after less than a year of doing that, I'm down to about 45 minutes of use on the "best battery life" setting. I don't think I have more than 100 charging cycles at the most, but battery life is dismal.

One last thing. To all of those people saying that you can conserve battery life by turning off airport, dimming screen, using less programs, etc, etc, etc. I say... give me a break!

This a a computer that is to be used, not just turned on! I hope Apple will find a new supplier so that if I do decide to replace it, I'm not throwing $129 down the drain!
