It is quite on a expensive side for a scale in my opinion, but once you start using its whole different thing. The real value of the system relies on keeping you motivated by setting your goals and matching them.

It seems to me that most problems people are having with the equipment are related to the set up. First of all you need the web based system to make it work. This means that you cannot set up the scale using your phone app. The installation procedure described in the manual is simple but very easy to follow if you have a wireless network at home.

Since I already had an account set up because I bought first the wristband it was quite easy and interesting to see my weight measurements been updated to their server and soon after appearing in my phone app, so now I receive badges by reaching both my walking and weight decrease goals. It is quite fun and rewarding.

The only problem with the scale is the BMI measurement which relies on the impedance method known for being prone to huge errors. Even more so if you weight yourself soon after a workout where your skin have a different impedance than usual. Its important thought to use consistently on the same periods of the day to have the "most" trustworthy results.

I had used the PC based seup on 2 computers and the web based setup on same 2 PC's, iPhone and iPad. None of them worked. I kept on getting a WIFI ERR and it would not connect therefore work. When I stand on the scales, it ends up with an ERR message, so even when not 'WiFi connected', the unit does not work. Very expensive waste of time for me. For those wondering, I am well below the max weight of the scale, so I know the ERR was not because of my weight.

This unit will be going back at the earliest convenience. Thanks but no thanks FitBit.

I have a lot of experience in setting up home networks, & could not get this device set up whilst using the utility. Once I went I have a lot of experience in setting up home networks, & could not get this device set up whilst using the utility. Once I went with the web based setup, I was up and running in under 60 seconds.

The device works particularly well - quite amazing considering it relies on 4xAA batteries. My family's weights are all distinct enough that it knows who is who. The online reporting system is very comprehensive, I love the ability to record foods & exercise also, & am now considering purchasing 2 of the Sleep & Activity monitors.

I was looking at the Worthings equivalent scales, but am now glad I saved the $50.

The foods in the iPhone App are very North America centric, but you can add Aussie equivalents. A bug in the distance walked shows miles, but when saved will revert to Km's.

    Well done Fitbit.
