Overview

Great Simple Airplay Speaker
At this point in time this is one of the cheapest AirPlay speakers available. It's a very compact offering and looks beautiful for a speaker. I traded in my Sonos System to go to AirPlay after having endless issues with dropping zones and accessing NAS drives with the Sonos. I have to say that the AirPlay is far easier and almost as flexible. This particular speaker is certainly as good as a Sonos Play:3 speaker and setup is less than 5 minutes (if you read the quick start sheet). I've only given it 4 stars because I still believe the AirPlay speakers are a little over priced and £200 (£180 if you shop around) is a little steep, I'd say this is more a £150 speaker but if you want to make a start with an AirPlay setup this is a great place to start. …

Very Stylish
Great speaker. Very stylish, high quality materials and finish. Puts many higher priced speakers to shame. Had problems initially with my iPhone 4S - it would drop connection after few minutes, however, it was resolved with new versions of iOS. Never had problems with iPad 2 and iMac. Connection stays for hours with no drop-outs. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for an AirPlay speaker.
Just a note to anyone who is having problems connecting to the speaker to theirs' WiFi network - make sure that your network name does not have any spaces in it. …- Written by Michal O from London

Absolutely useless
Speakers were never able to connect to my network through my router, and the telephone help centre clearly only had the manual (th at I had read more thoroughly than them) open in front of them. Eventually gave up on airplay and plugged iPod in directly - frequently stopped playing and eventually wouldn't play at all. Takes about 3 minutes to start itself up and has an ugly bright blue light when switched on - impossible to sleep with the light so couldn't use iPod as an alarm, one of the reasons I wanted iPod speakers.

Returned to store for refund
As other reviewers have stated the AirPlay is a great idea but this particular speaker simply wasn't compatible. Music constantly kept dropping out every few minutes despite changing its location. Looking online this seems to be a common occurrence. Philips even list the problem on their website but nothing they suggested worked.
We have tried it with an iPad (1st edition), an iPhone 4S and the iPhone 5. All three had the same connectivity issues with AirPlay.
Taken back and refund received. I simply cannot recommend this product despite following absolutely every instruction perfectly. When sound came out it was of a very good quality. Hopefully they will sort this out one day once and for all. …- Written by Marcus B from Leatherhead

Make sure your wifi network is good
Had problems staying connected to my network (despite fiddling with different channels on router to find one not being used by nei ghbours in our block of flats) - it would cut out so frequently (wouldn't even last for one song before doing so) that I ended up tethering the iPod to it which defeats the purpose. Fast-forward 9 months and I moved the machine to the other side of the room (away from an exterior wall which was semi-blocking the path to the wireless router) and it works perfectly!?
I would have returned the machine to the Apple store months ago if I could have been bothered - but simply moving the machine to a location where it could get a stronger signal/connection to my router did the trick - stupid of me I know...

Now my house is un-wired for sound.
These speakers sound great. I just bought my 3rd one and now my house is un-wired for sound. They will definitely get a workout at my next party.

Of course. It's just like any other device that's AirPlay compatible.
You can connect as many as yo ur wireless network will allow.

What distance can you have the unit away from its music source?

That's impossible to answer definitively as it depends on your network setup. The key is how far the Philips would be from your nearest wireless router access point. And the maximum you could have will depend on a whole load of local parameters like the thickness and material of your walls, how many there are between the access point and the Philips and how many other WiFi access points there are nearby and on what channels. The best rough guide - and it's only rough - is that if your iPhone / iPod Touch WiFi works from where you intend to put the Philips, then the Philips will probably work too.But there are no guarantees! …
