    RUBBISH!!!

    • Written by from London

Absolute bag of rubbish! Whats the point in this product if you cant even stream videos from SkyGo, BBC iPlayer.. e.c.t!!?! Just wasted so much money on this and it doesnt even do what i wanted.. Not forgetting the fact that the one i have bought is faulty and you have to push and hold the hdmi cable in for it to work along with the fact that it doesnt even stream it in HD!! The actually quality on my phone is better!!!! So angry at the poor quality of this product, unbelievable from apple, disgusted! DO NOT BUY IT!!!

    not supported?

    • Written by

I have had the adapter for about a week, it works with hdmi and audio out for about 2 minutes, then it says accessory is not supported by iphone, and stops sending audio, and video out. Then I have to turn my phone off, and on again for it to work (for 2 minutes) Horrible

    AV Adaptor

    • Written by from Rotorua

This is poor and their advertising is misleading . The resolution is poor and it doesn't go 'full screen' to the TV like the old cables do. so your movies will be small and not the size of your TV. Apple dropped the ball on this one. I want my money back :-(

Blocked by almost ALL video streaming apps, no 5.1 surround

    • Written by from Corringham

This adapter does not "mirror" what is shown on your screen, but rather "streams" it to your TV. This feature is blocked by DRM on almost all popular streaming video apps, including Amazon Instant Video, DirecTV, LoveFilm, 4od, BBC iPlayer. etc.

As another reviewer stated, the Lightning adapter is a step back from the previous iPhone HDMI adapter which did support full surround sound.

    Help

    • Written by from Russellville

The lightning to HDMI works great for my TV and for my new laptop computer but I purchased it for a projection unit and that unit has no HDMI. Is there something I can connect between the HDmi and the projector units to get sound and video? If so please let me know, Thanks in advance.

Terrible. Doesnt do 1080p and thats the truth.

    • Written by from MOSMAN

This item works horribly, then I go on the internet and read up that its actually mis represented by Apple.

The adapter actually has a little wireless receiver (AirPlay) unit in it, and so when you connect your iPad mini or iPhone 5 to it, the signal is not going through the cable, it is actually setting up a temporary wireless connection.. now due to this it has a tendency to lag, and also has a MAXIMUM resolution capability of 1600x900.. quite far from the 1080p promised.

So It basically outputs a low quality signal and then the little chip in the adapter, upscales this poor quality image to 1080p by "creating" the extra pixels needed.

But it DOES NOT however, allow for a raw HDMI signal to pass through, nor a HDMI quality signal..

Very misleading APPLE. I should mention I own an iMac, iP5 and MacBook Retina 15..and have bought many Apple products.. but I hope this is not a sign of the direction Apple is taking. Disappointed.

Awesome for Sling Adapter (Dish Network)

    • Written by from O fallon

I have an Iphone 5, Dish Network, and a Sling Adapter attached to the Dish DVR. Using the IPhone 5 Dish app I can watch any show that's live on my Dish Satellite or watch any saved movie! When I travel I can plug my iphone into any TV using this Lightning to HDMI cable and watch all of my shows! I also like watching Vevo from my IPhone on a TV since YouTube blocks the Vevo content on Blu Ray Players and 99% of TV's. The TV resolution for the HDMI output on the IPhone 5 is awesome! I did notice that some content does not display in 100% fullscreen. The Dish app displays the content in 98% screen with no distortion. I have a Panasonic plasma TV and it has not caused any black bar burn in.

    Works Great

Plugged in my iPhone 5 to my TV and it's as easy as that! Both audio and video are clear. I've used it for slideshows, movies on my phone, and Netflix streaming so far. This will be perfect for streaming movies over LTE to any hotel HDTV. It does seem a bit costly though.

    Works Great

Does exactly what is says it will. Looks good on the TV. I love that when you play a flying game, you get the pilots view of the surrounding area etc. on the TV and the instrument panel on the iPad Mini screen!

This also comes in handy when working on a stop motion video. It's a lot easier to see the onion skin on a big TV then try to watch on the iPad Mini screen.

It's great that you can keep the device charged while watching on the TV.

Good functionality limited by poor quality

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I got this a little less than a month ago and initially liked the ability to view content streamed to my phone on the big screen in my home theater using it hand held and navigating to a variety of content. However, it's developed a short or something so that it's very finicky in when it works. I can no longer navigate content in my hand and have to lay it down rather gingerly and finesse the cable so that it transmits signal. For $50 is should be more durable and work well for more than a month.

    Amazing product

Just got this so I can watch Netflix on business trips and it linked up immediately and works great! I have tried it with both my iPhone 5 and iPad Retina and both resulted in clear and full HDTV, amazing picture and sound. I highly recommend this product.

Really good adaptor. Downloaded movies on itunes, put movies in mini iPad connect to tv. Great quality watching movies with it. Plus it mirrors the mini iPad. My daughter connects iPad to tv and play her favourite apps, games or movies. Price seems high but worth the buy.

What is the point of technology moving backwards?
This lightning adapter does not allow 5.1 passthrough - the 30 pin adapter for ipad 2 and 3 will. Disappointing.

    Disappointed

I work in television and have some downtime between shows. I'm surrounded by monitors and wanted to put on Netflix through my iPhone 5. I have an apple TV (carrying it around would be a hassle opposed to a cable.) The airplay and the netflix app work great on Apple TV. Sometimes on the apple tv netflix takes a second to buffer and to get to a clear hd picture but with this cord there was never a clear picture streaming Netflix, great wifi connection and all. Just a jumpy picture from time to time and even looked SD. I hope other people have better luck than I, but I'm going to have to return it unfortunately. A bad picture drives me crazy and I can't get over how a hard line isn't up to par with a wireless connection.

It does work with SOME on-demand services

    • Written by from EDINBURGH

I pondered for a while whether to get this cable or not, as I really wasn't clear which on-demand services it was compatible with. After visiting a store to ask the staff, it seems there was a little confusion at their end too, which probably isn't Apple's fault per se.

Basically, this cable will only mirror the full audio/video of on-demand apps if the app-maker/content-creator allows it. I've tried it with a few different services and, contrary to what one other commenter here says, it does actually work with iPlayer. Well, I watched a range of TV shows from my iPad Mini on the big screen, no issues, but that's not to say there won't be some shows that won't work if there is rights-related issues.

I tried it with LoveFilm, only the audio worked. With 4oD, nothing worked at all. Luckily, the main player I wanted this cable fore - Eurosport Player - does work with it.

So yeah, if you're looking to stream content from on-demand players to your TV, just bear in mind some work, some don't.

I'm giving it 4 stars because it's mostly fine for my needs, and it does actually work for content stored on the device itself, as well as YouTube and the likes. I just wish Apple would put a warning somewhere in the product description explaining the issue with on-demand - I bet a lot of folk buy this cable only to be disappointed.

Burnin display on the iPad 4 retina

    • Written by from Dedham

I just bought the lightning to HDMI adapter for my iPad last week. The device works great and the picture quality is amazing. I primarily use it to plug in my iPad to my TV and watch Netflix. The other day I noticed that when I went to go to another app after unplugging the adapter from my iPad that Netflix was burned into the center of my display on the iPad. When using the Netflix app while using the adapter, when the video is playing it is only playing on the tv and the iPad has the generic Netflix logo with the red background. Is there a way I can eliminate this? Is this a Netflix app thing or an apple thing? Any advise would be awesome!
