Syncing with iPhone depends on LUCK

    • Written by from Hong Kong

I won't recommend this product! The band had difficulty to be recognised by my iPhone 5s since the very first days. I contacted Jawbone support and they asked me to reset the wristband. The same problem persisted after reset. Having the band recognised by iPhone appears to be a matter of my luck!

    A Cool Motivator

    • Written by from Croydon

This device is excellent. I have had mine nearly a year and have no issues with it at all. The app is a jewel of design. The GUI is uniquely intuitive and provides a wealth of beautifully organised cool looking data. Goals can be set, and trends observed. According to ‘The Gadget Show’ the steps measurement was the most accurate of devices tested and I agree with that. Sleep and quality of sleep is also measured giving a previously unseen insight into yourself at rest.

The nutrition part of the app measures calories used, compared to calories consumed. There is a picture library, barcode scanner, and it also links to your phone camera so you can take your own food photos. I found it so motivational that I lost 20 pounds! That’s got to worth the price of the UP alone. Finally, the design is light, unobtrusive and discreet. I chose black but if you want to shout, red is available. All in all, a very neat and functional device.

Service is shocking.... Only had mine 4 months and it no longer charges. Can't get anyone to help resolve the problem so please don't waste your money on this product as we have.

    Big Disappointment :(

    • Written by from ST CATHARINES

I was stoked to buy the up band. My first band worked great for about 3 months (held a charge for about 9 days, synced fine, tracked my movements well), but then it died. It wouldn't charge or sync so I contacted jawbone and they were great in sending a replacement band right away. However despite confirming on the phone the size and colour i needed they sent the wrong size. So once again i was forced to contact them, they were super friendly and sent me another band right away. I confirmed once again the colour and size i needed, and this time i received the proper size but wrong colour. An annoying second mixup but i kept the band. A week later and the band is only holding a charge for about 24-36 hours. 4 of my coworkers have also had their up bands replaced because of battery issues or broken display lights. All in all it's proven significantly more of a hassle then a benefit. I'll definitely be going fitbit for my next band. (additionally the device display and bluetooth sync of the fitbits are a huge draw as compared to the up)

    Worth it!

    • Written by from BIRMINGHAM

The best thing about the Jawbone UP is that it makes looking after yourself easier. It has excellent integration with other apps and it's actually quite satisfying plugging it into my iphone to sync. I think there's a new one out that sync's via bluetooth as well.

I've had mine a while and use it to track mood, food and activity - the food database is a brilliant timesaver.

My first wristband stopped working after a few months so I got in touch with their customer service team - who were EXCELLENT. Replaced it immediately and didn't wait for me to return the faulty one.

Get one. You won't regret it!

    Terrible product and worse service

    • Written by from Denbigh

I really liked the idea of this device and when it worked it was fine even if the data was a bit inaccurate and not very useful. The family have had two of these devices. One had a battery issues and the other died within weeks. Support were very nice and said that a replacement would be sent. Still waiting after 4 weeks and numerous phone calls. Appalling . Maybe Apple could do a better job in the product category.

    4 months later, its dead!

    • Written by from PALOS VERDES ESTATES

This is the first (and last time) I buy a product on impulse without doing my homework. Bought this at an Apple Store in June 2013 and 4+ months later it is dead! And judging from all the reviews I'm reading here and elsewhere, its the same problem everyone is experiencing. Battery won't hold its charge and the unit won't sync with the App... Its too bad, I liked how it worked (when it works!) but I probably won't be buying ANY Jawbone products again.

Seems useless to get a replacement since the quality of the product does not last more than a few months at a time... EPIC FAIL!!!

1 star is too much, the UP is junk and the company does care.

    • Written by from gievenbeck muenster

Bought the UP by Jawbone at an Apple store in the US, I was pretty excited to start in using it. The bracelet did not work after charging, always showed red light and would not communicate with the software. Tried to do a soft reset and this did not help. Did a hard reset and this did not work. Tried many more times for a hard rest and to reset the software. Finally after several days it worked for 24 hours, and stopped working again and would not communicate with the UP software with my iPod. The worst part is that I wrote by email to the company hoping they could give some advice on how to get it to work. They did not respond, so I wrote again and gave them serial number of the bracelet, and after several weeks no response.

For sure buying this product is a big risk, you never know how long it will work, or if it will work. If the company does not bother to even respond for a device under warranty, they must think the product is not worth supporting.

I was so excited for my Up band. It was working great for the first couple of months. It was accurate and easy to use. I loved seeing how it tracked my movements and sleep. All of the data was really helpful. That is, until it stopped working. The band just wouldn't hold a charge and after just 3 months! I took it back and exchanged it for a new one because I really Loved this band. But this one died as well! And after just 13 days!!! I asked my friend who uses Up as well and she said she is on her third band! I just couldn't deal with it. The second one went back and I went with a different brand. Do not buy the Up band; It is just a headache.

    Great idea with terrible execution

    • Written by from San Leandro

This band is great in theory, but I am on my THIRD replacement band in less than a year and it just died on me last week. I'm pretty flustered with the whole thing and feeling angry enough at this point that I don't even want to contact them yet again to get another. When it works, it's fun and interesting to track your behavior. I found it to be very motivating and it encouraged me to increase my activity and sleep, but it's just not worth the hassle. The battery is unreliable and the product itself isn't durable to withstand gentle use, let alone the supposedly water resistant outer and "rugged" design (p.s. I didn't shower with mine on after I replaced it the first time. It lasted a little longer, but didn't make much of a difference and the replacements BOTH died regardless).

Read the reviews of the other fitness/health tracking products and spend your hard earned money on one of those.

Trust me...it's not worth the time and energy necessary to deal with their wishy washy customer service department and by the time it breaks down, it'll probably be out of the Apple return window. Where does that leave you? With $100+ down the drain. My boyfriend's band did the exact same thing.

I believe this can be summed up in two words: incredibly disappointing.

    When It Works...

    • Written by from Waipahu

The UP is a good product if it would just WORK! I bought my first UP band in December of 2012 and since then I've had to replace it 4 times. Sure Jawbone is really good about honoring their warranty and getting you a replacement product, but then the replacement usually dies out in a few weeks to a month. The longest UP band for me lasted at about 7 weeks then it went out as well. I've change my habits to ensure my UP didn't get wet or even go through rigourous use, but then again isn't that what it's supposed to do? Even babying it, the UP still dies.

Wish it was more durable because the features and App are great, but overall the design needs much more R&D and testing.

    Nice Product

    • Written by from Norman

Very nice minimalistic way to keep tabs on your wellness.
I've had my UP band for a couple months now. Here are some highlights:

-Cross app syncing: UP can be linked to share data with a handful of other top notch apps include My Fitness Pal, and Runkeeper. This synergy is quite well done.

-Suggestions: the UP app gives you customized suggestions for sleep or activity depending on your usage history. These are actually pretty good.

All in all, this is a very nice piece of hardware. The app is sharp, simple, and works well. This fits well within the Apple ecosystem.

Great experience, for a short time

    • Written by from luxembourg

I have used the UP for 2 months without a glitch, it is as simple and effective as advertised, totally unobtrusive and yet very present... It all worked fine until last week.
Since last week, the sync function fails. After multiple trials and errors it seems the problem is that the battery no longer holds a charge for more than 12 hours, so the band needs plugging into a laptop every day, morning and night... that is a problem...
Maybe I'm unlucky, though I have seen other similar complaints on the web.
Anyway, I've been in touch with their online support and will hear from them within 48 hours apparently - I'll update this review when the outcome is known.
Current rating is an average of 4 stars for the products when it works, and 0 stars for its reliability.

    • Written by from Hong Kong

I brought it from UK apple physical store as HK shop's shipping time was 1 months. honestly specking, the design and functionality is great. however, it is just unstable. i guess there is some design defect. i can see a lot of customer facing the same problem. i am not considering to switch to whitings' product. it is a pity.

    Product Failure

Band worked great but the rubber casing did not hold in place and continually slips over the end used to sync, the rubber pushes the phone off the jack. Might have just been a bad band.

    Died after 2 month

    • Written by from Dublin 2

Battery of Jawbone died in 2 month. Apple support told me that sea green Up is discontinued so I've asked for refund. It looks like all Jawbone Up owners around the internet have issues with it.
So pity as it is really neat product.

Cross-app syncing poor; great alarm clock

    • Written by from Ooltewah

I've had an UP band now for 3 months, and waited to review to see if it can fit into my life well.

Bottom line: do not purchase this unless you find $130 a good price for a great alarm clock.

Pros: Attractive, low profile, easy to wear (although sometimes difficult to wear a watch and UP band on the same hand with long sleeve shirts). Great battery life, and easy to sync with iphone. The best feature is the smart sleep alarms for which the UP band picks the optimum time around your target time, while you are in "light sleep". Without question, I wake up more refreshed than before. I also like the "power nap" function (same concept, set to waken you 28 mins after you fall asleep.)

Cons: They need a web app for entering data to help minimize the impact of poor cross app syncing. I use LoseIt (a supported app) for tracking my food and exercise, and the syncing with LoseIt is diabolical. I like using LoseIt because it has a web interface as well as iphone and ipad apps, so I can keep my history easily. But when I sync my UP band with LoseIt, it ends up creating multiple meals from the same LoseIt entry. I also find the iphone app difficult to enter and to keep data up to date, meaning I tend to ignore it (i.e. whats the point of having a fitness tracking band, if you are not going to keep up with it?)

I consider $130 too expensive simply for the great alarm clock functions. The problems are fixable, however, if UP decide to focus on them. Avoid until then.

    Love it.

    • Written by from FORESTVILLE

I've had my UP since April.

If you are looking for something to motivate you to move, eat healthy and sleep right then this is it. It's comfortable to wear and the associated app is easy to use.

My tip: If you buy it, join the UP forum, check out the various facebook groups and gather a team together. UP is so much better with "friends" .

    I love it.
